When they say it's a safety issue, they're NOT kidding. During that infamous game in New Jersey the Chargers' equipment manager, Sid Brooks, was hit with an ice ball and was knocked out cold! Anyone on the sideline NOT wearing a helmet is in danger in those situations.

I remember one call years ago when the refs tried to tell the home crowd to keep their noise level down so that the visiting team could hear what the coach and quarterback were saying!! I don’t remember who was playing but I remember thinking that is stupid ref!! The more you tell the crowd to shut up the more they are going to yell and cheer for their team!!!!
It was in Seattle at the Kingdome. The NFL tried to have a rule that said it was a penalty if the crowd was too loud, but the Seahawks fans and the Kingdome were known as the loudest stadium in the league. The crowd didn't let up at all, and that stupid rule didn't last long.
Seattle built their current outdoor stadium with crowd noise acoustics in mind - and not to keep it low.

@Trevor Leach The Dolphins should provide tarps and covers to the visitors or allow visitors to rent objects to shade themselves. Rather than force players to endure 100 plus Temps with high humidity, increasing the chance of cramping and heatstroke.

Philly did it first during the Bounty Bowl II. I was on the sidelines for that one and had to dodge several. A ref was hit and taken from the field.

They were not ice balls. Let's be clear about that. The snow was *perfect* snowball in quality. We got warned about this imaginary "15 yard penalty" at least 10 times. And guess what - the more the refs and stadium announcer beated their chest, the more people threw snowballs. The crowd 100% was daring the refs to throw that flag. There wouldn't have been an ounce of snow left in the stands.
