Stan the man and flora great to see flora playing the guitar and her voice wow! I have followed flora since the early 70s I just love her voice! One of the very best !
Yes, I love Flora. Have always considered her the most under-rated and under-estimated musician of the 20th century. Really, I am not exaggerating. Paul McCartney had great timing -- like Flora. But Flora, well, she is magnificent.
My little story... I used to sing in disco funk house bands in the 70s, meaning full time work). One slow Monday night with a gig in the outskirts of Oakland, the band leader asked me if I would like to sit out a couple tunes so someone could sit in. So there was this sax player, they did a couple of jazz funk tunes and then he left. Later the band leader told me it was Stan Getz. (!!!) :) I'm a big Flora Purim fan also, saw here live a couple times in the 70s, very very far out. She and her musicians took Amazonian psychedelics and you could hear it in the music! :)
I never seen Flora singing and playing the guitar. She does a pretty good job on both. Interesting performance, it must have been when she was getting internationally acclaimed attention before she moved on to play with Corea and more sophisticated fusion in the 70s. You can tell she's a little nervous at the beginning but she picks herself up masterly, I love her voice and believe she's one of the finest female jazz vocalists in the last 40 years. Both Getz and Purim, exceptional musicians
I knew Flora played some guitar, but this is the first time I've ever seen footage of it.She has alwyas looked beautiful and still does today.I wish I could get the rest of this show.Great line up.Had the pleasure of meeting Flora and Airto in St.Louis 9 years ago .Great folks to meet.
Wow! Amazing to see the young Dejohnette and Vitous (pre- 'BItches Brew' Miles and then working with Chick Corea, among others) as the (bored) rhythm section. Looking around I find nothing was ever recorded by this group, save an obscure live title: "The Song Is You" (see allmusic.com for more), which apparently also features an uncredited Flora on vocal (but not guitar). Only together for a one-off tour of Europe, it seems. This video clip is really a precious 'missing link'. MANY THANKS!
Wow! I've never heard this. Flora is great, as always. Dejohnette, and Cowell intermix nicely with the flow of the piece. Great upload - thanks! Larry, Taiwan
Fantastic video, been watching it non-stop for 2 days now. I love Flora and i would marry her if i could, even though she's 70 and i'm 27..ofcourse that would make Airto sad, and we can't have that since i'm a huge fan of him too ^^
A great performance generally enhances a composition! This made me want to know more about the song and the composer. It's called Deixa a Nega Gingar (could be roughly translated to 'let the black lady swing' or something like that) by Luiz Claudio. Thanks for sharing this great video. Cheers from Brazil!
seems so many great TV appearances in 1969 Paris!! WE Parkers were there for the summer but never got to see something like this.. I was too young 14..
"The Sound" is has always managed to give their chances to young talents. This footage comes from a TV show but I don't know in which opportunity Stan came to perform in Paris at this time. I think INA, a public media company could give some info.
You can find it on the Duke Pearson's album "How Insensitive", which is a beautiful record flavoured with brazilian rhythms in which there's a choir backing a jazz band.. Hope this helps man..
Amazing ! Unbelievable casting. This is before Return to forever. Miroslav before Weather Report, Dejohnette before Keith trio. Besides in France ? What were there doing ? I have never seen guitar playing by Flora before, and nice. I saw Stanley Cowell in NY 90's , was avant-garde contemporality. Anyway wonderfull music, Thank you uploading !
Flora was classically trained on guitar. Her father a Russian Jewish. Musician and her mother Brazilian. Decades apart in age and language barrier didn't matter.
Sad news: Luiz Claudio de Castro, the great Brazilian singer who composed this song "Sandalia Dela" (aka "Deixa A Nega Gingar"), died on August 28, 2013. R.I.P. Details on the Jazz Station blog.
I've been listening to "Light as a Feather" (RTF with Flora and Joe Farrell on tenor and flute). It would be interesting to hear that record with Stan replacing Joe (who acquits himself admirably and has a gorgeous tone on flute). "Captain Marvel" is on it, though..... Any more Stand with Flora? Thanks....
The drummer (Jack) is tired. The bass player (Miroslav) barely sits straight. The piano man (Stanley) wears dark glasses, usual suspect of hiding tiredness. Stan too looks exhausted, almost can't keep his lids open. But still, all of them perform so well.
Oh yeah......see, for all you facebook using, mad twittering, ipod toting, trendy, stenographic, cookie cutter, carbon copy clones - this is from way back when artists actually had a little something called TALENT.
Brazilian Jazz Diva, the great Flora Purim!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Oh wow... This is such a precious thing. Never knew Flora Purim played guitar. Brilliant.
Classic! Flora's voice is, and was, ethereal. Jack is so young here! What great footage!

So amazing to see this, especially with the great Stanley Cowell (my former teacher) on piano!

Hello. I don't speak portuguese and I'd like to know de lyrics. Can someone write it, please?
ヴィトウス、ディジョネット、カウエルを傭した最高のゲッツ・サンバ節、そして新進フローラ・プリムの初々しい姿、彼女はその後夫共によりコンテポラリーに! #jazzm
I LOVE this song - what is it called?!!
I was just going to say that.
The drummer (Jack) is tired. The bass player (Miroslav) barely sits straight. The piano man (Stanley) wears dark glasses, usual suspect of hiding tiredness. Stan too looks exhausted, almost can't keep his lids open. But still, all of them perform so well.
Did Stan score before Airto?
the best bossa nova voice... after Flora Purim, just Bebel Gilberto! Falou?
Who's the dude on the skins
The white cat likes french girls!
Two guys are deaf...
Lol, Michel Drucker aura tout vu...
Jack ... Bored ... :))))))
They all look very exhausted; Staz barely keeps his eyes open and slips his tongue.
@@zvonimirtosic6171They’re probably jet-lagged
