Gänsehaut pur. Wenn beim zweiten Zeitfahren 2003 dieselbe Hitze gewesen wäre wie in Cap Decouverte, hätte Ulle die Tour gewonnen. Aber auch so war diese Tour genial. Die guten alten Zeit. Ein Sportler wie Ulle werden wir leider nie wieder sehen. Der Held meiner Jugend...
Meiner auch! Diese Tour hätte er gewinnen müssen. So viel Pech. Ein Mannschaftszeitfahren, der Sturz Armstrongs, der Regen. Es lief alles gegen ihn….

@Friedolino Rebstock Jan war ein unglaubliches Ausnahmetalent und Tour 2003 war die beste aller Zeiten. So etwas wird es nie wieder geben, da bin ich mir sicher.
Wollt ihr mich ver*****en?! Das ist eine so finstere Zeit für den Radsport wie keine andere! Es ist eine einzige Schande was diese Leute dem Radsport angetan haben, das ist unverzeihlich und da hab ich auch kein Mitleid mit Jan Ullrich. Er war und ist genauso wie Armstrong und all die anderen von damals auch ein essenzielles Teil des Problems!
Profi Radsport war wohl schon immer eine Feldstudie für die Pharmaindustrie und Dopingdesign. Ich bezweifele, dass es jemals eine saubere TDF gegeben hat. Ob die Fahrer da selbst immer die Hauptschuldigen sind? Verfolgt man das Thema etwas genauer, zeigt sich doch, dass der Profiradsportler oft eher ein Opfer der Organisatoren, Manager und sportlichen Direktoren ist. Was soll ein junger, eher gering gebildeter Mensch, der seinem Traum, Radprofi zu werden alles unterordnet, denn machen? Er muss seinen Lebensunterhalt verdienen, merkt wahrscheinlich schnell, dass ohne leistungssteigernde Maßnahmen die Luft schnell dünn wird. Die Rundfahrten sind extrem fordernd. 3 Wochen jeden Tag hunderte Kilometer, tausende in der Vorbereitung. Selbst wenn jmd das Glück hat als Wasserträger nicht selbst Erfolge einfahren zu müssen, er wird auf andere die es eben können angewiesen sein. Kein Sponsor wird einem Team auch nur einen Cent fürs mitradeln spendieren, nicht auf Dauer. Dann steht das Team irgendwann ohne Sponsor da und der Radprofi wird arbeitslos, muss mit Leistung überzeugen, um woanders eine neue Chance zu bekommen. Die verlockenden Angebote werden kommen, macht doch eh jeder, ist doch quasi Waffengleichheit. Der Radsport in seiner realen Ausprägung fordert seinen Tribut, auch heute würde ich nicht von sauberen Rennen ausgehen. Die Entourage der Dopingindustrie ist immer noch da. Namen wie Virenque, Winoukurow, Riis repräsentieren auch heute noch die Szene.

Im Profisport ist halt viel Geld zu holen und deshalb gab es schon immer und wird es auch immer an der Spitze Doping geben, das ist doch kein Alleinstellungsmerkmal des Radsports. Ganz interessant ist die Dokumentation Blut und spiele.

When i started cycling in 2001, watching cycling for the first time, everyone was talking about Lance Armstrong. I first ever watched 2001 stage on Alpe Du Huez and Ullrich caught my attention as this monster sitting down putting out so much power even if he lost the stage to Armstrong, i was inspired by his style and class immediately and i always hoped to see him win the tour - i really think he had it all. 2003 I followed it and was sad when he was sick in this tour in the early stages. Then this stage happened and I felt very happy for him.
One of the spectacular tours of all time imo. Always been a fan of Ullrich, he made some human mistakes in cycling and in his private life, I think that’s why i was/still a fan.

Ulle hätte es so verdient gehabt sie zu gewinnen und ich bin mir sicher dass er dies getan hätte wenn er im zweiten Zeitfahren nicht gestürzt wäre, bei dem er auch Armstrong Sekunde um Sekunde abnahm - so schade, aber deswegen mag ich Ulle auch so gern - der tragische Held. Es gab nie wieder einen Fahrer wie ihn, Ulle ist und bleibt der einzige deutsche Toursieger und noch dazu 5 mal 2ter !!! Es wird ein Talent wie Ullrich vermutlich nicht mehr geben. Einer der prägendsten Fahrer, Ende der 90er und Anfang der 2000er. Schade, dass er später so scheiße von den Medien behandelt wurde (er hat ja nicht alleine gedopt).
@@Augenhose Was für eine Sicht auf die Dinge. Ulrich, Zabel, Armstrong und viele andere haben mir den Spaß und den Enthusiasmus mit dem ich den Radsport verfolgt hatte, vollkommen genommen. Heute schwingt ständig die Frage mit: Haben die was genommen? Und Ulrich tut ja immer noch so, als wenn nichts gewesen ist.

Was die scheiß Medien mit ihm gemacht haben, ist und bleibt eine verdammte Frechheit, denn ALLE haben damals gedopt, nicht nur er.

I always had a soft spot for Jan, but I rooted for Lance; this Tour was scary, with Ullrich playing the boogeyman.
Jan had the talent that Lance didn’t but lacked Lance’s discipline (and further-advanced doping methods). This was probably Jan’s prime fitness: he looked like an apex predator next to Lance’s timid, subdued finesse.
And look at how he passes Basso-I remember such an overtaking in a TT, as a Cat IV racer, when a Cat I passed me like I was backpedaling on a fixie.

Como sufrí por Jan en aquel Tour, pensé que al fin iba a poder con Armstrong y más después de esta salvajada de crono, impresionante el tiempo que le puso a todos, la crono más impresionante que he visto junto con la de Pogacar en el Tour 2020. Esos días de calor afectaron a Armstrong, cuando llegaron días un poco más fríos empezó a mejorar y culminó con aquella etapa con final en Luz Ardiden.

He couldn't close the gap in the Pyrenees....and the last time trial the rains came, Ullrich had to go for it and went down. Maybe if he doesn't go down he takes the one minute from Armstrong and wins the tour, but not to be.

Vom Gefühl her würde ich sagen das Jan an dem Tag vergleichbaren Sprit zu Lance Armstrong hatte. Ich verurteile ihn dafür nicht im geringsten. Wäre es toll gewesen alle Fahrer völlig natürlich zu sehen.
Ullrich would have won that tour if he hadn't been ill early on. Its interesting he pushed Armstrong closest when he wasn't with Telekom, who were always chasing the green jersey for Erik Zabel as well as the yellow. US Postal totally concentrated on supporting Armstrong to yellow. Yes they were doping, but I feel its wrong to wipe their achievements from the record books.
There were too many stars on Team Telekom...they all had interest for themselves instead of Ullrich for the Tour win. Just like you said Armstrong's team was there just to support him, Telekom was poorly managed at that time can't remember the name.
Being with Team Telekom wasn't good for Ullrich at all. He should have stayed with Bianchi and be independent. It also took the german spotlight off of him being with Bianchi. My favorite Ullrich Year after '97

Jan przegrał ten tour podczas etapu na Alpe de Huez gdzie miał gorączkę. I zabrakło w tym Tourze porządnego górskiego etapu gdzie by Lance stracił po górach z 2 -3 minuty. A Lanc edopiero na koniec touru odzyskał formę.

this guy was my top idol and he losing this particular tour made me sick but i can't support dopers, even if he was just like 90% of the remaining cyclists, including the guy who speaks in the beginning of the video.
GinBlossom but you know the Tour has always been about some form of doping! Armstrong, Ullrich and company may have taken drugs, but they rode every inch of that brutal race.

+GinBlossom no one was every clean above national levels. drugs give you around 15% performance. you cant outtrain this. there also studies that you can still perform better than you should after going of steroids.
i'm not saying Ullrich didnt have extraordinary capacities. but he's a cheater, a cheater and a liar cause he claimed innocence til 1 or 2 years ago, when he finally admited he doped the whole time. and to me, that's it.
whole system is fucked up. they cant detect drugs properly. so just allow it and no one has to lie about it. and if athleats die, they die.
