    Great Video as always. Couple things on the series 4 that we find compelling. (We have the one that was featured at Coverings 2022 so have been using it for about 18 months)
    1 This cutter allows you to see the wheel unobstructed to align to marks. 2 MOST IMPORTANT, The bar/ handle roller setup is not affected by dirt and debris and does not get bound up. The Monti 5 is an evolution of the earlier model. The Sigma 4 EVO revolutionary.
    Keep up the good work.

    Awesome demo! I wasn’t sure about buying this cutter but the more I read and more I watch videos I can see it is more versatile than all my other cutters and that’s exactly what I want a one stop shop cutter .

    I don’t know if I’d like being backwards on that thing. I like the Montolit because your push into the fence Vs pushing away from it. Seems like smaller more common size tiles would have a tendency to move on you. Now if you flip the handle the other way around I could get on board trying sigma lol

    Do you have a video that shows how to put the NEX 4DN together one it's out of the box?
    I finally figured out [thanks to your video] where to place the red cross bar -- and wherevtheblittle arrow inside the hole is used to EYE [without any real locking guides] tge degree cut desired.
    By the way, the Sigma NEX 4DN [95 cm; 37"] only has two support arms [the back obes]. It does not have the 2nd pair [middle] that you show on your video. In addition. Those roller wheels you show at the end of the cutter -- mine doesn't have tose either.
    Are these features only on the models larger than the 4DN?
    Your videos saved the day! Thank you.
    Rant: The instructions from Sigma company are extremely poor. Spending $900 on a Sigma NEX 4DN, I would expect AT LEAST clear instructions included in the box on how to set up and use the cutter! No matter how good the tool, it is useless without showing how to use it. After all the complaints Sigma received about such for the Series 3, one would expect a company supposedly of this caliber would have learned by now to write decent instructions for the Series 4.
    Thank you, though, for bridging the gap so well!
    I'll be doing several test cuts on less expensive porcelain tiles before I begin cutting my 35" x 35", over 40 lb weight, 3/8" thick Fioranese Ceramica Unica porcelain tiles.
    I'm a total newbie who never used a tile cutter before. I'm tiling the treads and risers of a staircase. When finished, I'll tell you my DIY experience and results.

    • @wolfdieter6891
      @wolfdieter6891 6 місяців тому

      Okay, as promised: I said I'd tell you my newbie experience once finished with my tile cutting.
      First, I did test cuts using less expensive tiles I purchased from Medards: Nero black SKU 700-0058. These are 3/8" thick porcelain-veneer tiles of size 12"x24" [11.75"x23.5", actual].
      A few cut without fissure breaks, but with more microchipping than I hoped. Many more resulted in fissure breaks away from the scord line. For every secondary cut (i.e., attempting to cut an inch, or even 3 inches) from a tile edge resulted in fissure breaks.
      Yes, I cleaned and oiled the blade and the roll bar after ever two cuts.
      Then, I tried my actual porcelain-veneer tiles: 3/8" thick Fioranese Ceramica Italian "Unica design" tiles, sized 35" x 35", weighing ~40 lbs, each.
      When cutting the full length ON-CENTER [17.5" from the side edges], most cut along the score line without fissure breaks. Nevertheless, these had noticeable microchipping along the score line, too. Two cutting attempts ON-CENTER did result in fissure breaks running away from the score line. Fortunately, I had purchased two extra tiles, and one of the fissure breaks left enough tile to use for smaller pieces I needed.
      As with the cheaper tiles, these Fioranese upscale porceline tiles resulted in fissure breaks at almost all my attempts to cut the needed secondary scoring lines nearer the retified edges.
      Before destroying the tiles to a point where I would need to purchase [and wait two weeks] for more -- I took them to a subcontractor who owns a wet-saw. The wetsaw was able to cut even as close as 1 inch from the rectified edges -- and did so much cleaner than the brand-new Sigma 4DN I purchased [the wet saw resulted in practically no -- i.e., barely visible -- microchipping].
      I realize that Fioranese company recommends using a wetsaw instead of a tile cutter. Regardless, the other brand [the one purchased from Menards] had the same problems -- even though those were smaller, more managable tiles.
      After all that, I gave it a go with left-over marble 12x12 tiles [Milas Lilac, 3/8" thick]. These cuts, even after cleaning the blade and roller again, resulted in microchipping too.
      Apparently [albeit, based on my potential newbie ignorance], if a $900 so-called top of the line cutter like Sigma 4DN results in significant [IMO] microchipping, and frequent fissure breaks -- it is not worth the great cist compared to cheap models like MD. In my eyes, it would have been wiser for me to buy an Amazon MD, received similar results, and used the mobey saved to buy extra tiles to cover to loss.
      As it is, I'll have to try selling my one-time used Sigma at a 50% loss. Else, I'll take the hit to my wallet and have to by 50% more tiles as "extras" in the future, instead of the recommended 10% needed for wetsaw cutting.

    just recieved this same cutter. i now have a 24, 36, and now a 49 sigma. i had a 49 monty but honestly didnt like it, this sigma i better imo. mine came with the magnet mat, are we supposed to cut the mat down the center line, i see it has a scissor picture on it? also want ot try the laser but can only find one on a site out of the country, would love to see a review or post on how well they work. a lot of cuts we make are mark to mark and lining up the blade is time consuming, a good laser would be a dream. thank again my friend

      No they don't, on this unit as least

    • @frankcatrini4816
      @frankcatrini4816 11 місяців тому

      i hear you on the shimmy. had a p3 48 monty and on long planks it moved left and right a lot and was really hard to keep from doing that. yes if using the fence doing straight cuts it doesnt come into play, but mark to mark cutting sucked on the monty, so i sold it. have 2 smaller sigmas but looking at the 49 sigma next or perhaps the battipav which looks solid

    • @wolfdieter6891
      @wolfdieter6891 6 місяців тому

      One of the spring plates completely popped off when I tried to adjust [slide] a 35"x35", 40 lb, Porcelain tile into position. This happened on my brand-new Sigma 4DN (95 cm model).
      It was easy enough to reset the spring and pop it back into place -- but I expected more sturdiness from a $900 cutter.
      In addition, although possibly more an aesthetic issue, the plates bering made of metal [possibly an aluminum alloy] get scratched up after positioning just a few tiles.

    Thanks for the videos. These cutters keep going through changes and upgrades so quickly to stay up on the market tha like buying a cell phone. They become dated so quickly but who can afford to vonstantly buy the latest and greatest model at the prices they charge? I have an older model montolit that still cuts like the day i bought it. Its a very basic model but all the "issues" people have with the earlier models are silly nit picky issues that to me arent even an issue. When guys say they cant see the cutter wheel i feel like they must be blind because i see the wheel just fine. I do want to get a larger cutter, mines a 42" i think i dont know its in mm so i can cut a 36" tile. But tiles keep getting bigger so i have to use my wet saw on larger tile over 36" so a cutter would be nice but 1300 for something that doesnt even use electric or gas seems crazy.

      @suspicionofdeceit 1. The roller must be seen when cutting by marks! In vases, the walls are not always parallel!
      2. In order to make ideal thresholds under the doors, for example. Or the perfect cut.
      3. On such large sizes from one ruler there is a very large error !!!
      4. It's just more convenient to aim at the laser on mass pruning!
      This is all unacceptable for a modern tile cutter !!! Of course, if a tile cutter is needed in order to really work on it, and not just show off !!!!
