Now, can't tell you if that's by family tree placement or degree of shared DNA... because all my first cousins are half-firsts (giving them about the same DNA as a second). But in any case, just a fun fact; I have no intentions of marrying a cousin, lol. Royalty used to do that stuff all the time to "keep the bloodline pure". I believe Queen Elizabeth and her husband were 2nd cousins. The thing is folks ain't move around much back in the day and children often weren't allowed to ask questions, so over time there was confusion on how or if folks were related. If you look at a census from the early 1900s, it's not uncommon to find related families all living next door or in the same neighborhood. And they often intermarried with neighboring unrelated families (leading to children who are cousins or in-laws down the line). I've done research on (Black) families out of Roxboro, NC and Bowie, MD and I've been told by someone 50+ who grew up there: "Just about everybody here is related." ...Honestly, that's checking out in these family trees, lol. 😅 Fortunately haven't come across any sibling couples, but definitely got cousins who married cousins (not in my direct bloodline).
I was born and raised in Alabama and I've never dated any of my cousins or family members. I can't control what state I was born in or anything like that but I've always had suicidal thoughts because of this and it sucks.
