ApiLife Var tutorial

ApiLife Var is a treatment against Varroa based on 4 active ingredients: thymol, eucalyptus oil, menthol and camphor.
Action against varroa is by evaporation and contact.
This video shows how to use the product on a Langstroth beehive.

c'è chi mi ha detto che va lasciato il fondo anti varroa durante tutto il mese di trattamento. Ho pensato che servisse ad aumentare la concentrazione dei principi attivi all'interno dell'arnia grazie alla minore circolazione d'aria. Però siccome in Piemonte è un trattamento estivo, le api con il fondo inserito patiscono poi il caldo. Leggo invece da una risposta qui sotto, che non è necessario lasciare il fondo....se non a titolo informativo per capire la quantità di varroa che cade. Posso quindi fare il trattamento, anche senza lasciare il fondo, in modo da non fare alzare troppo la temperatura dell'arnia? O questo facilita la reinfestazione come dice qualcuno?

Hello. This is my first year beekeeping. I'm learning so much. I inserted ApiLife Var in my hives 2 months ago. The wafers were never absorbed into the hive so I just left them in the hive thinking they would just keep working on killing the mites. About 3 weeks ago, I winterized my hives by taping up the seems and surrounding them with insulation. When I went to check on my hives this week, there were lots of dead bees and no bees in one hive and very few left in the other. It was heartbreaking after so much went in to caring for the hives throughout the spring and summer. I could not find any evidence of having a queen. There was still a strong odor of the apilife var. I'm wondering if leaving Apilife Var in the hive and then sealing the hive to any drafts may have caused the bees to abscond? Any advice would be welcome,

Hello Chris, sorry for the delay.
Apilife Var is a medicine based on essential oils which needs an average daily temperature between 15 and 30°C (the optimal range is 20-25°C). Maybe the temperature was not adequate for the product to fuction properly.
In autumn we recommend you to use other active ingredients that perform their acaricidal action regardless of the temperature, such as oxalic acid (i.e. Api-Bioxal), amitraz or pyrethroids.
