God, common core has gone to trash. Thank you for this video, had to help my brother who is in fourth grade and I didn’t learn division this unnecessarily long way!
Thank you so much for this! A lot of people here are learning this in 4th grade but I’m learning this in 5th grade as well as my other classmates too. This helped me a lot with my homework and I hope if it will help me with my school work! Thank you very much again!
the math problem I'm trying to solve is: 79 divided by 4 in model and remainders i was sick when my class learned about division models and remainders- i have no idea how to do the problem because its 79 divided by *4* help please-
What happened to the old fashioned time and tested way of doing division? This is utterly ridiculous. We did math drills and solved 3 long division problems in the time it took to do the breakdown of this new fing fangled way. The purpose I thought was to be able to figure math in your mind. How could you possibly do all these numbers and columns in your mind? My goodness.
Thank you so much for your video. My daughter was very upset last week cause her teacher asked her to do math homework with this complicated way even my daughter said she had an easier way. She asked me why teachers make math more complicated😅😅😅
Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you for this easy to understand explanation of this method. You helped me and my fourth grader learn this method and survive homework time! 🙌
this is a very confusing way of doing division. I must be dumb because I don't see any reason why they (math educators) make things this difficult. It works well with single digit divisor but becomes ridiculously difficult when the divisor is at least 2 digits. I pity the kids who are getting introduced to this stupid system of division.
Thank u this video helped my 4th grader who’s learning 5th grade math finish her homework this video made it easer for her she was so happy when she figured the answer out
This just irritated me to my soul. I miss old school math. My brain cannot wrap around these new methods with 10 million steps. I’m trying to help my son understand this and I don’t even understand this 🤬
Good job! I bet Ms Coker could have done the area model much more quickly than the 0:45 it took you to do the long form. However, the purpose of this video is to explain the process of using the area model, therefore she's taking extra time. PS Math is not a race. Good for you if the algorithm method works. However, for others the area model helps it make sense.
@@johnh7899 well I still say she worked it slow to explain the process and could have completed it in the same time it took you to do the algorithm. The other division models help students understand the concept of division rather than just focusing on the abstract process of the long division algorithm. I've been subbing for 5th grade and as a high school teacher seeing hoe these various models are helping students with the big picture.
Thank goodness for you. I got really tripped up on this- whatever this is. Also, anyone else here because you're a**hole teacher gave you homework on something you completely forgot how to do?
Thank you very much I was doing this in class but I didn’t get it very much but this video helped me a lot. Who would have though that one video was better than a whole class probably because I find it easier to focus when doing work alone. But anyways thanks a lot for this video!
I hate the department of education’s decision in Nevada when they used long division as a 6th grade standard instead of a 5th grade standard which is useless because now it’s going to be a repeat of my fourth grade years.
This has to be the most stupid way to do math division, we take a few steps ( the old school way that solved orbit equations and put us on the moon) and multiply them complicating the operation. I could easily solve 4 division problems by the time you figure out the first square.
@@mathymom I appreciate how you are explaining it, trust me I had to rely on your video to be able to assist my child (and I am very good at math I use it on a daily basis to solve complex dimensional problems in aerospace) but it is a wasteful way of doing it since you almost have to do twice as much work, learning value placement can be much simpler.
Dude, tell me why i have to watch this whole video to understand my homework if i can just easily divide it normally,AMERICA STOP MAKING MATHEMATICS HARDER!!!😡
Sure, but it is a bridge to understanding the 'regular way'. It's another strategy. For you, the 'regular way' is easier. For others, this is. All that really matters is that people find the answer in a way that they understand.
It’s just so unnecessary. This is half of why students lose track and graduate not knowing BASIC MATH. Because it’s being over complicated FOR NO GOOD REASON. I know it’s not your fault and I’m not taking it out on you but this garbage needs to stop. No one needs to learn this unless they plan on going to college to become a mathematician. It’s absolutely unnecessary. Imma just divide the SIMPLE problem that’s given instead over complicating it and wasting my time.

Same, I’m helping my little sister with this and I’ve never learned this before, what ever happened to long division?
literally me rn
I know, right? It’s like saying, “hey, here’s a five minute long way of doing a problem that should take 15 seconds to complete.”
This is a great way to take a simple math problem and make it excessively complicated.
Okay so why did we choose 70 and get 910 instead of going as close as possible to one thousand
Thank you so much for this! A lot of people here are learning this in 4th grade but I’m learning this in 5th grade as well as my other classmates too. This helped me a lot with my homework and I hope if it will help me with my school work! Thank you very much again!

But doesn't 13 go into 60, 4 times?
Why not multiple 13 by a higher number that 70 to get closer to 1000?

thanks that helped 3 a lot on my homework 😁
1234 / 13
13 x 100 = 1300 x
13 x 90 = 1170 ✓
1234 - 1170 = 64
13 x 5 = 65 x
13 x 4 = 52 ✓
64 - 52 = 12
12 < 13 (end)
Q = 90 + 4 = 94
R = 2
1234 = (13 x 94) + 2
1234 = 1222 + 12
1234 = 1234
