lemme explain for yall so when billie was 15-16 she was in a relationship with a 22 year old man and she had say it was emotionally abusive so yes the snake did represent her ex boyfriend and he kept using her for her fame and in the documentary she has during the coachella weekend he broke up with over the phone so to sum it up he was a snake in real life
Who was it?... I mean, was an actor or singer?
@@jonathanmartin3693 he is a rapper 7mtvamp on insta
He didn’t break up w her at that time, he kinda did worse. She got him free tickets to come to Coachella to have fun but also support her and he was off w other people. At a party before the show started, he was supposed to go w her to it and she calls him mad he’s not around. After the show she’s disappointed and anxious by the mess up in her set and she probably really just wanted him, her bf, to be there when she came back to cheer her up, and he was still w other people. You can assume he said something to her on the phone like “can you come see me, can you try” cuz she replies “why can’t you ever come here, and ‘try’??” She’s unfortunately still w him after Coachella but they prob did break up pretty soon after
@@jonathanmartin3693 singer his name is Brandon
@@starheartskull15 June I think that broke up
It was a real snake! She also has a music video with various spiders/tarantulas, and even put one in her mouth. Billie Eilish is braver than anyone I’ve ever met lol
i believe this song is about her ex boyfriend, brandon, who was 22 or 23 while dating a 16 year old, who was billie, he used her and didn't care about her feelings, in her documentary "the world's a little blurry" we get to see how broken and sad she was because of him and her depression. i love this song!
omg he was 22???? I didn't realize it was him
@@arielmarvin4803 yes.... watch the documentary on apple tv if you can!! he treated her so badly
Yeah the 22 seconds after that is blackness after she's hushed is supposedly to represent him
It is about her old abusive relationship, and the snake represents her being strangled by it.
Today Billie said this about the song:
"This is one of my favorite songs I've ever written. I feel very vulnerable putting this one out because I hold it so close to my heart. This is about many different situations that we've all either witnessed or experienced. I hope this can inspire change. Try not to abuse your power."
Seems to be about multiple types of predatory behavior, definitely including her personal experience with a toxic and constricting relationship.
This Billie's reaction to the whole George Floyd case and all the other BLM cases.
Little tip, switch on the subtitles for lyrics when you react to songs, it makes it easier for you to focus on more than catching what the lyrics might be :) especially the first time watching a music video I find this super helpful.
love how she left the freckles out
16 songs in the album, she was 16. There's 22 seconds of silence in the video, he was 22.
Billie was 16 when she was this 22 yr old guy that was very abusive.
She said this song was composed of small parts of stories happening around her. I believe this was one of five songs she wrote by herself on the album.
The message is right there in you're face how do people not understand what it means
I love how strongly Matt reacts whenever he sees the snake. You would NOT like it at my house.
Happy Birthday Matt!!!
If that pronunciation of camera is a legend Jenna Maroney reference then I love this channel even more than I thought possible
You KNOW it was hahaha -MP
The song is about being taken advantage of, unfortunately a lot of people can relate to that and Billie herself has been taken advantage of when she was 16. She was in a very mentally abusive relationship with a guy called Q and he was 22 at the time
The power over her personally was due to her being in love with her ex (which is also where the age gap reference stems from). In other parts of the song she is more talking about situations she’s witnessed, which are likely more industry based, as well as generally in terms of having power in a larger systemic sense due to having privilege, and not abusing that. Then on another level she expresses a certain level of empathy towards those who do abuse their power, hence also why she says TRY not to. By saying “and having it’s so strange” she gives a nod to her own experience with having power, and how seductive it can be to abuse that (which I think is another way in which the snake ties in visually). So in the song she talks about the concept of abuse of power from all levels: as someone who’s been abused, as someone who experiences power, as someone who witnessed abuse of power. Power due to someone loving you, power due to professional hierarchies, power due to systemic privilege. And she does all of that without being preachy, with a sense of empathy, while not letting someone being abusive get away with it Scot free (how dare you, you only care when you get caught, you blame me for being the devil) being self aware, as well as being both vulnerable on a specific personal level as well as observant on a macro level. While sounding amazing, writing beautiful lyrics that I could also go into a rant about (the smoothness of the snake being evoked by the phonetic sounds of the words chosen: abuse, choose, lose. The word constricting being implied through visuals as well as used in a DIFFERENT FORM in the song lyrics (contract, the paper and signature kind). Also the fact that there’s a audible pause after abuse. Try not to abuse.... (me.) your power, making it so much more implied and poignant. Also while being a consistent visual artist in the video which she obviously directed, her melding into and disappearing into the vastness of loneliness, and the countryside colours harmoniously embracing her new style, while also being a nod towards the strumming guitar intro. And when the camera pans up into the sky it reminded me of the song “lovely” where the line goes “isn’t it lovely all alone” just as it pans up into the clouds.
This is absolutely the best explanation I've seen so far. And I agree 100%. The song like alot of her music is so powerful in general. Abuse in all ways. The lyric about keeping her in a cage. You can be in a relationship where maybe your not physically abused but you feel caged up due to the control.
@@laurens9663 Thank you, your comment made me smile ☺️

SHES THE PERFECTION PLSSSS I CANNNNNT SHES UNREAL 😩
Excuse me sir your hair does not look like a disaster it looks like a wonderful curly mass of joy that others can spend hours trying to recreate. On behalf of the hair on your own head, please appreciate! 😆
Loved your reaction! You should really consider on pausing the video when you’re gonna talk, or pausing AND rewinding a little bit so you don’t miss important parts of the song. Because when you talk and let it play you’re not listening and then you don’t get to appreciate the song as it should, specially on Billie’s songs that are so powerful on the lyrics (just a recommendation, still love your videos!)
I also thought of Britney when the snake came up! And then I thought of how she’s in a position in which someone is abusing their power over her.
The snake is real!
Hi guys how are you doing? btw you should look into more Billie songs she’s unbelievably talented and makes great songs

guys it's a real snake😃🤚🏻
It's totally real. Go look at her instagram story @billieeilish. You'll see behind the scenes!
Also in another interview that she did about this song they Aster if any of that was aimed towards the music industry that she has come to know and she said no she loves her team she loves her. She loves everyone she works with this is about relationships personal private relationships that are abusive and that the younger person in that relationship doesn’t realize that they’re being forced to do things they don’t want to and that they are being trapped they’re being tricked into believing that that person really loves them
Oh the snakes real😂😂 His name’s Archie😂
Ur two are iconic and so is this song 😭😍😭 btw I made a reaction video on my channel too
It’s about her old relationship but I really do feel like it is also about James Charles
I doubt she would write about james, even if it does apply to him
How would it be about James Charles like what 😕🤔
Yup definitely a real snake except from I think a couple of shots when the snake is around her actual neck, she may legally not have been allowed (but probably been quite ok with it happening, herself)
THE SNAKE IS REAL GUYS🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦

Yes the snake is real. She even put spiders in her mouth
Me: But nothing weird is happeni-ahh there it is, the snakes
The snake is 100% REAL she did behind the scenes video clips of them shooting the video and of her playing with the snake between takes also she set an interview but she’s not gonna go into detail but everyone knows what this is about and if you watch the documentary you know as well it’s because she’s in a very abusive relationship with a guy that was a legal adult he was 19 she was 15 when they started dating and off anon they would have issues ends after the doc came out everybody saw their relationship and realize that relationship is not good and that he basically was dating a minor and now because of all the publicity he’s gotten over it and all the hate he’s gotten over it he’s in debate with his reporting contract because they don’t agree with him dating a minor and he’s trying to use the excuse that he didn’t know that she was a minor that she claimed that they were the same age when there’s a video proof in the documentary that he was there at her 16th birthday and 17th birthday so he knew how old she was turning and he was 20 and 21 but it’s also talking about how so many men are going after a little girls and trying to date them and end up being abusive it’s a lot to the message but everybody could see the documentary knows the main reason for this song
Oh the snake is real she posted it on her ig playing with the snake 🐍
yes it was a real snake! billie once put a spider in her mouth for a music video! she also posted pictures of behind the scenes and it showed the snake on her!!

The snake represents satan.
No offence brothers, but, get to the business at hand, to much talk !!!!!
This reaction is so annoying you’re missing the importance of this song by yelling over the lyrics......
It's an 80 pound anaconda and please stop yelling over the lyrics. You guys have fun personalities but it seems like you missed the heavy content of the song.
