I feel old as fuck when half of the people in this comments don't know what Phantasy Star IV is. I remember playing the hell out of it when I was a kid, as well as the Shining Force series and the early Final Fantasy games... and some X-Men games as well.
I didn't have a Genesis until way late, and didn't get RPGs for it. So while I know of the games, I never played them. Final Fantasy 6, on the other hand, was a cart that spent the better part of a year glued into my SNES. It's also the reason why the setting, story and characters of most modern fantasy games is so unbelievably boring to me. What can Skyrim offer me in comparison to Sabin suplexing a ghost train?
I feel the same... anytime you mention Phantasy Star nowadays, the only reply you get back is PSO 1 & 2 and PSU. The modern games don't hold a candle to the original series, especially PSIV. I played this game to death and honestly still do from time to time, I can still remember buying it at Wal-Mart when it came out for 100 dollars and people think I'm bullshitting them I when I say it cost that much... it did. It was a 24 megabit cartridge, the cost of a larger than average ROM size was passed on to the consumer at retail in those days. Safe to say though that I've more than gotten my money's worth. It's easily my No. 1 favorite game of all time. :)
@@robintst Game was $120 when it first released where I was. It was worth every penny. There's never been another game like this. Not before, not since.
@@Zombie1Boy I loved Phantasy Star 4. First exposure to it in my alley was from an issue of GameFan (a UK mag) that somehow ended up in Nebraska. I never let that magazine leave my side for a long time, and then my first time playing it was on the Sega Channel. This is still probably the best boss theme in the whole series. It conveys urgency and menace in equal measure, and it's really, *really* hard to make a decent remix of for everyone who's tried. I mean, listen to so many of them and you'll hear them all muddy with very loud distortion guitars, which is kind of annoying. This is, to my ears, a 1 to 1 cover through this tracker. Very impressive.
In my top 5 most epic "major boss" battle theme. In fact, I dare say it's the best one of the 16-bit era, second only to the first fight against X-Death
I am going to spread this channel to the fucking moon and back, JUST FOR THIS ONE SONG. Phantasy Star 4 had a LOT of force in turning me to JRPGs. Renting the damned game over and over as a kid, finally just downloading it when I learned what emulators were. This is so awesome, I could cry. Actually, I just did. A tear just streamed down my face dude. It brings back so many memories of that little grawlix, Zio. So underleveled at first.
Holy s.... My favorite boss battle theme used to be from streets of rage(attack the barbarian) and from rocket knight adventures. But i'm glad i gave this masterpiece of a game a try because it is an unique rpg experience and has this amazing soundtrack. As i already said in other post:Only Sega could do this, thank you so much.
The only game I've played where a main character died with a dark theme. This stuck to me into adult years when that happened. (Never made it to FF VII death scene)
Heh, I actually considered trying to recreate this track too at some point. Excellent job though, it sounds pretty much perfect. I've never been able to decide if only playing for two fights made this song stronger or if it was a shame it didn't appear more often.
NARFNra This song gets me pumped and slightly horrified every time. In fact both Zio's themes evoke a very eerie feeling. Dark Falz's theme is really good at that too. I remember being scared as fuck when I encountered Dark Force in Zeland... or was it Kuran... One of the satellites. I was like "No... he can't be here... this is way too soon in the game!" Needless to say I let my anxiety overwhelm me and made some bad calls in the battle and he killed me.
coatlesscarl hopefully next time you can do covers of all the smash themes, i know theres a bunch of 8-bit esc tunes of them but your covers always sound da best.
mascot1063 Not many are finished, but I'm constantly writing and arranging track fragments I think sound wizard. Without a particular goal or project in mind though, they typically just stay fragments. So to answer your question... kinda?
mascot1063 Well, whatever talent I may or may not have in composition is offset completely by my pervasive laziness. Unless I'm really invested in a project, I'm just no good. Hopefully you can find someone great for whatever you need.
Which would you guys like to see first, a pretty good cover of Sprawling Savannah from Super Mario 3D World or a mediocre cover of Festival of Servants from Symphony of the Night? (Both are VRC6)
Crazy expensive AND it came out on the MD/Genesis when Sega was dumping a ton of add-on hardware on the market and releasing the Saturn. Same reason why other games like Ristar and Comix Zone don't get the recognition they deserve.
coatlesscarl You are my biggest fan on UA-cam for making 8 bit music and i had a very good request. could you make an 8 bit "Still Alive" song from portal. Everyone like and reply if you want him to do this The end credits of Portal playes on an MS-DOS like computer and i would like an 8 bit or 16 bit soundtrack. Thanks, Your the best. to listen just type in Still Alive into youtube
You should DL the ROM, or get it on PS3, X360, PSP, I think it's on comps for the PS2/Xbox/GameCube too. It's probably on Wii, definitely on PC. There are many ways to play.
+Donkey Shlong Just hibernating. I actually have a handful of covers that are nearly 100% complete, I just haven't been motivated to finish them off and upload them. It's highly unlikely that this channel has seen its last upload, I just need a spark to get going again.

I remember reading about Phantasy Star IV in GamePro and GamePlayers magazines wishing I could play them~

You also hear this boss theme when fighting Lassic/LaShiec.
This sounds just like (and exactly like) the original tune! That is a total compliment, by the way.

holy shit i've never heard a cover sound 99% like the ORIGINAL. THIS IS PURE TALENT
what did you use for this? it sounds just like the original, it's amazing.
Masterful work! Phantasy Star IV is to this day my all-time favorite RPG...must've beaten this game around 15 times over the years. Thank you!
The only game I've played where a main character died with a dark theme. This stuck to me into adult years when that happened. (Never made it to FF VII death scene)
It sounds as well i remembered, but better!! love it!!
easily my favorite boss battle music in any game -- thanks so much for doing this!
those are some cool tones
the ones that you make are also awesome
Aw man this takes me back. Good stuff man.
YAY! I haven't seen you post in awhile. This makes me happy. Love PSIV, its so good.
Oh and Super Mario 3D vote for me.
What an awesome thing to discover
The moment when I believed in the skills of RUNE
My favorite track from the OST.
Came back around just in time. So glad to see a new post from you ^.^
I'm happy to see new content coming from you. Looking forward to seeing the new videos. Nice cover.

@@millgiass lol
Why the small patterns? Anyway this is nice, only nitpick for me are the muffled/quiet drum samples.
coatlesscarl hopefully next time you can do covers of all the smash themes, i know theres a bunch of 8-bit esc tunes of them but your covers always sound da best.
You're back! Great to see you posting again :D
Good stuff here, man. I'd be pretty interested in seeing that SOTN song, though the Super Mario 3D World one sounds pretty sweet too.
WELCOME BACK! Made my day.
just out of curiosity, do you have any original tracks by chance?
mascot1063 Not many are finished, but I'm constantly writing and arranging track fragments I think sound wizard. Without a particular goal or project in mind though, they typically just stay fragments. So to answer your question... kinda?
heheh no worries, im just asking cause your remixed stuff is super talented, and im looking for someone who is able to write their own tunes.
mascot1063 Well, whatever talent I may or may not have in composition is offset completely by my pervasive laziness. Unless I'm really invested in a project, I'm just no good. Hopefully you can find someone great for whatever you need.
hey man i look at it this way, you are able to put a song into an 8bit format while still sounding like that song, so your alright in my eyes B)
mascot1063 Haha thanks!
I love this so much. Please come back.
I really need the DMF for this.
coatlesscarl will you be doing covers of the smash menu theme, youre 8-bit covers are amazing.
Impressionante!
Epicness!
Which would you guys like to see first, a pretty good cover of Sprawling Savannah from Super Mario 3D World or a mediocre cover of Festival of Servants from Symphony of the Night? (Both are VRC6)
Bro' it's so funny...just finished playing this game and this pops up on my youtube front page ^_^"
Did you play it on Steam? They're spying on you. ;)
Yep, big bro's watching ^_^"
Finished it as well, great underrated RPG
Festival of Servants!
I'm leaning towards the Mario 3D World track, though I haven't played either of the games you mentioned.
I want this MMC5, but nice cover.
This song screams evil sorcerer
Super Mario 3D World for sure.
this doesnt sound too different from the original
Nice batle
Don't know what game this is but the musik is awesome
Crazy expensive AND it came out on the MD/Genesis when Sega was dumping a ton of add-on hardware on the market and releasing the Saturn. Same reason why other games like Ristar and Comix Zone don't get the recognition they deserve.
Almost can't tell it apart from the original.
REALLY similiar to the original one
It sounds much cleaner than the original I think
You son of a gun. No ballad of the goddess? ._.
coatlesscarl You are my biggest fan on UA-cam for making 8 bit music and i had a very good request. could you make an 8 bit "Still Alive" song from portal. it would also sound best on a SNES tracker
Lutz Peyton Like this?

coatlesscarl screw it. 8 bit all the way. I was just wandering if you could make a good quality 8 bit remake. It is something to concider but thanks
Good to see new content! :D I would prefer Festival of Servants, but both are rad
I have no clue what this game is! Still epic though.
Phantasy Star is an rpg for the sega its really good

Is this channel dead or what, I loved your remixes.
