Yes! Teenagers need more sleep and sleep is so important for health. This is such a huge perk for homeschoolers! 🙌🏻

While this video is 2yrs old I resonate with this a lot. Beginning to breathing free of guilt shame and perfection already.

I also prefer routines over schedules.

Very similar to us. We've also been homeschooling for 15+ years and have 1 graduate

That's awesome that you are done with homeschool by lunch. Our lunch is at 11 and there are days we barely have gotten started by then. It seems like just about everyone needs my help also. This morning I flipped our schedule ( because they had a lady coming to help them finish their 4-H sewing projects) worked with my older girls ages 10 and 12 in the morning, while their 8 year old brother worked independently ( he is very independent) then finished my 7 year old up in the afternoon after she had eaten lunch and had a chance to play outside.

I probably didn't make it totally clear, but it's the 8 and under crowd that I try to have finished by noon. The older kids do take longer, but they are also much more independent.

Thank you so much, Ashley! The advice you shared was a breath of fresh air. I found myself feeling so defeated for not being able to get an early start consistently. I believed being successful at homeschooling meant I must be up by 4 a.m. which is difficult since I'm in bed after midnight most nights. I would love to hear about your experience and advice on co-op.

If you watch some of my more recent videos, specifically the one about us leaving CC I share my thoughts on co-ops there, and I have several other newer homeschool videos as well! :)

Great video Ashley, it all made perfect sense. Homeschooling isn't much of a thing here in Scotland, or the UK for that matter. Both my children went to . school so we had a timetable to stick to but it sounds as though your approach really works. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about how you and your family live their lives and I look forward to more. Thank you for sharing xxx

I am truly puzzled as to how you have a later breakfast and then still get schooling done before lunch at least on some days. I'm a mom of six and while I enjoy our homeschool days for the most part, I can't seem to manage to get everyone done before 4:00 and even then we're not always finished, I just stop.

Hi Elis! We don't necessarily wait until after breakfast to start on school. Most of my children have independent work that they start on before breakfast. All of my students from middle school on up work through the afternoon as well. I aim to be done done by lunch or shortly thereafter for my younger students. With that being said, I have switched curriculum, and what I am using now is far more rigorous, so the days of being done around lunch are probably over.

We've moved our day around to something slightly earlier, we are aiming for breakfast now at no later than 8:30, with a noon lunch break. But before, when we were on the later schedule, we would do lunch at 1. I can't remember if I said this in the video or not, but I always allow the children to eat fruit and drink milk in the mornings if they are hungry before breakfast, otherwise, I don't think the later breakfast would work well. I always keep apples, mandarins, and bananas stocked for snacks.
