    I have a felony on my record. The school I applied to ask on their application have you’ve ever been convicted of a felony. I said yes. I might get denied but I needed to be honest because they will find out anyway.

      @@rachel_linhey Rachel, quick question. I recently was accepted into a university, and as I looked into my application I stated that I participated in my highschool football team for a year when I didn’t. It wasn’t meant for an advantage, it was just an unfortunate turn of events. I got ill and missed the tryout window. I turned in my application before I was officially on the team😭. I don’t really know what to do now, I didn’t over exaggerate anything i just said I participated that year. What do I do?😭😭

    What if I made a typing mistake in the number of participants of the National Math Olympiad.
    I am from Paraguay and I got 1st in that, and I put it on my Common App of course, but I accidentally put one cero more. It had to be like this:
    "Gold medal, Math Nationals (x2). Ranked 1st out of 45,000 participants"
    But I put 450,000 instead.
    I hace already contacted my admissions officer to inform him about it. Was it the correct thing to do? I really did not mean to do that or exaggerate. I also attached to that email a photo with the gold medallists to give them proof of my honor.

      Hi Sebas! You contacted your admissions officer to inform them of the typo, so you should be ok here. Hello! I know you said you may not want to exceed 24 hours for any activities in the application, but what if I say I was a part of a summer camp for a few weeks, each adding up to 30 hours per week?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому +5

      That's fine! More so being mindful of the number of hours you are listing for school year activities, that it doesn't exceed the regular number of hours you would be in school, eating/sleeping, and then activities. It would make sense a part-time job or summer job/internship would be 30-40 hours a week!

    I’m vp of a club that would improve my college app a lot bc it’s directly correlated to what I want to do in the future but they are making us merge clubs with another one and the other clubs presidents are kicking me into secretary. But since the paperwork for our original club is submitted and I was written down as VP for that can I put VP down rather than secretary because I think it will bring down my application. Also as a section of the club, I was the founder of non profit chapter (inside the club) if that makes sense. Can I write mysef down as founder because I actually contacted the non profit and everything even tho I am just secretary of the actual club. Also it’s important to mention that I’m doing more work than all of the presidents so it’s also not really fair.

    What happens if I made a big mistake on UC application. I did the IB and went to a school with a quarterly schedule for reports. But I only submitted grades from the fourth quarter of each year because I assumed they were the final grades that summed up the entire year. IB system is different. I was wondering if you know if colleges can check your essay and information about extracurriculars and rewards after you were admitted early decision. I'm worried that they'll reach out to my school after getting admitted and do fact-check stuff because I heard of this incoming Harvard freshman who got rescinded after finding out he lied about his mom's death in his essay. I'm not sure how rare it is to be rescinded for smth like that

    • @rachel_lin

      Yes they can check your information after you have been admitted, and it is probably more common that they would check their admitted students compared to applicants they have already rejected. Hey Elijah! Yeah if you include the channel name, anyone can look you up if they were interested in seeing your channel or verifying the accuracy. It is best to be truthful on the application. Is it possible you can continue to make videos now? Most colleges don’t really “count” activities done in middle school, so the UA-cam channel, while very impressive, took place mostly in middle school.

    I have a really personal question. What if I am an international stundent from a small country and fake some of my grades ? I can even get a confirmation document what I did indeed got those grades , so the only way I can possibly be coughs is if the university calls to my school and asks about my grades. Can they do it ?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому

      Haha yeah, if a college is really suspicious about something, they could call your school/school counselor in order to verify. If you send colleges a falsified transcript and you are caught, that would be a really bad thing because it shows you are intentionally trying to deceive admissions (compared to having an honest typo that you notified them about etc). Being caught falsifying a transcript/grades could lead to having your admissions rescinded or being removed from the college after you've already started there (like the Operation Varsity Blues students who falsified their SAT scores - got expelled or had their college diplomas revoked after the fact).

    Hey so, I may be over reporting the amount of weeks I'm doing an intership, just because I have social anxiety and my internship requires me to reach out to potential voters. I have the records saying I'm an intern but I'm debating whether or not I should step back or even resign. If I'm already admitted into a college in my country one year ago and I'm studying there and then applying as a freshman to US college, would that be a problem? Should i mention that? what could happen if i don’t mention that? will there be any negative impact for mentioning that?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому

      Hmm I think it depends what kind of credit you are earning at the college in your home country. For example, in the US, if a student finishes high school and starts to take some classes at a community college before applying to a 4-year college, they would be considered a transfer student in the eyes of UC admissions. You might need to mention your current program in your applications because if you finished high school in 2021, then are applying for 2023, you would have an unexplained gap on your application. Try to schedule a meeting with your school counselor (also make sure applying as a freshman is ok). To me, I do not see a reason why you would not report this schooling experience.

    What if you get rejected from all UC's for lying on your application, but later graduate from a junior college. Can you still attend a UC, or are you blacklisted?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому +1

      This kind of information isn't publicly available, but I would think it depends on a case-by-case basis depending on what the lying was and the severity. Since the UCs can share information, if one UC uncovers something, they can notify the other UC Admissions Teams!

  • @derek3613
    @derek3613 2 роки тому

    When you apply to uc schools you don’t send your transcripts yet. So if a student lied about their grades wouldn’t your application get revoked cause I’m pretty sure you send your final transcript to uc schools in the summer?

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah! When you apply to the UCs, you self-report all of your grades and scores. Once you are admitted, you would send in the final transcripts and if there is a huge mismatch in the self report compared to actual grades that is not just a simple typing error, then you could have your admissions rescinded. So using application revoked/admissions rescinded sort of interchangeably, but you are correct!

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому +1

      @@derek3613 Don't think like that! The UCs use holistic admissions, so your GPA is just one part of your overall application. Make sure you spend time writing and editing your PIQs! I've read applications from students with "lower" GPAs who are still recommended for admission because of other parts of their applications, like their activities and PIQs, make them stand out! Don't be too scared to apply, you never know the admissions result unless you try!

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  2 роки тому +8

      I wouldn’t say “exaggerate,” but make sure you’re representing your activities accurately. For example, say you’re babysitting, in your activity description, you don’t just want to say “babysitting a neighborhood kid,” but you’d want to provide as much detail as possible. So something more descriptive could be “preparing 2 meals, helping with homework (could list subjects), cleaning up the kitchen and play area for a 5 year old and 7 year old”

      Pretty much! Although colleges usually receive a fewer number of transfer applications compared to freshman, so readers might have a more watchful eye when reviewing applications to spot any inconsistencies or odd occurrences. But similarly, most top colleges do not have the time to fact-check every single application they receive but would leave it up to the audits, high school/CC counselors, and official scores to verify the information.
