"I can't see one person really funneling all of this creativity into this song."
That's because you haven't met BABYMETAL's producer Kei Kobayashi, better known as Kobametal, or just Koba. : )
He sent this song back to the Yuyoyuppe, the arranger, over twenty times until he was happy with it.
Of course Koba does know how to delegate, and to surround himself with exceptional people.
For this song, he introduced Su to Japanese Enka music.
For those last couple of notes, he suggested that she imagine that Yui and Moa were leaving on a long trip, and that she was missing them.
Otherwise, as usual, she was responsible for finding her own way through the song.
Yes, BMD FOX RECORDS is a BABYMETAL Death reference, although they also started their own BABYMETAL Records label in 2018.
They also have a BMD FOX APPAREL line of clothing. : )

The guys at the back in the video pretending to play the shamisen were dancers with the troupe run by the lady who did the dance with a fan during the breakdown (the bit you described as djent). That breakdown used the melody of a very old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
This is the song that I feel best describes what BABYMETAL are, mixing Japanese culture with metal and jpop aesthetics etc. It also regularly tops fan polls for favourite song. Megitsune is also the song they have played live more than any other song and it always gets the crowd jumping and singing along.
The Kami Band (all male by the way) are their live support band, they don't appear in the music videos (unless they were filmed at a live show) and we only know of one of them being involved in any of the studio recordings (Leda Cygnus wrote the guitar arrangements for 'No Rain, No Rainbow' and played bass and guitar for the recording of 'Arkadia'). Other Kami Band members may have played on studio recordings too, we just don't know.

Thanks for taking the Megitsune request! Glad you liked the song. Was pretty sure you'd dig that breakdown. Djent + pig squeals + traditional Japanese folk music isn't something you see often but it sounds pretty badass when done right here.
Also, great job for correctly identifying the blade as a tanto instead of a katana. Women of the samurai class sometimes carried a small tanto called a kaiken for self-defense and to 'protect her honor.' It's now a ceremonial item and a fashion accesory for traditional ceremonies (now mostly an ornamental wooden sheath instead of the full blade).

meh-gee-tsu-neh Tsu like in tsunami. English lacks ts as the opening of a syllable but Japanese does have it. The kee in kitsune becomes gee in megitsune because of a Japanese phonological pattern called rendaku. When words are combined under certain circumstances, sounds change k->g, h->b, s->z. For example hana (flower) + hi (fire)-> hanabi(fireworks). They use the old folksong "Sakura Sakura" which just about every Japanese person would recognize. Sakura means "cherry blossom" and Babymetal sprung from the school-themed idol group Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy). Don't know if the choice of Sakura Sakura has anything to do with idol group name but it is an amusing coincidence,

You did notice that Su had the Mike/Tanto in her hand throughout the video? When Su pulls out the knife she says "Maidens are not to be underestimated". Its a line said by the daughter of a crime lord in a well known Japanese crime movie.
The girls have said this was some of the most difficult choreography for them.
The creator of Babymetal is Kobametal (Key Kobayashi) who is a producer for Amuse Talent Agency. He heard Suzuka Nakamoto's singing voice when she was about 10 (?). As a metal fan he realized her voice was strong enough to front a metal band. So we got Babymetal. If you are researching I suggest going to Reddit and look for Babymetal interview, Young Guitar. It's in 3 parts.

I don't know what BMD stands for, but BMD Fox Records was started to manage Babymetal. Babymetal started as a subgroup of the idol group Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin was signed to Universal, and they split off Babymetal and started BMD Fox, I imagine to retain creative control.
When Su unsheathed her tanto, and I agree it looked like one, she said "otome wa ikan zeyo" - maidens should not be underestimated.
Megitsune means female fox, it is also slang for a girl who wears a lot of makeup. Kittsune is a much more common term, and in folk lore kitsune were shape shifters and tricksters, and mostly evil. So this song is rebranding that - "we are maiden like megitsune"
Fans will probably say Kei Kobayashi, Kobametal, the producer who saw Su and had the vision to put her in a metal band, controls everything. We know the girls exert a lot of creative control - they make the calls on the mix for concerts, saying we want more guitar here, more bass there. All the songs are different, just too much creativity for one person,
And the Kami band are all guys. There was one woman for a short while, Miz, but there is no footage of her performing. She plays violin.

Hey!!! It's Babymetal! Just came from watching your backlog of Babymetal reactions! They've all been killer! I'm super ready for the rest of the week!!!
So most of your questions have already been answered in the comments, so I'll just say a bit and leave you with a recommendation. Lol.
As its been said, each of their songs are vastly different from any other, and yet they all still remain identifiable as Babymetal! Its amazing work they do! While there are dedicated writers for the songs, its not like the girls have no creative input. Su has regularly come up with the melody line, that lyrics are then put to. Yui and Moa have written the lyrics for the song Song 4. At least one of the Kamiband (Leda) has worked on the guitar line in a song and played for the studio track for a couple others. Here it may not sound like much, but its not implausible to think that they've contributed in other ways.
As for a recommendation, Karate really needs to happen soon, and its one of the few where the MV is a must! My current fav is Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro live at Budokan(venue) Black Night(concert title). This song is one of their darker toned songs and its about a girl running from an unknown "it" in a recurring nightmare. She tries to hide but "it" always finds her. Realizing that she cannot escape, she pleads for "it" to show itself to her. And then finally she falls to the darkness. Its sooo dark!! So metal!!!! And the intro (which WILL melt your face and blow your mind!!!), showcases the insane god like skills of the appropriately named Kamiband( band of Gods). Its fekkin epic! Sorry for not having a link though...

The Fox God lore is kinda complex, I don't completely understand it all myself but basically The Fox God is the god of Metal and he chose Nakamoto Suzuka (Su Metal) to become the new messiah by way of a legendary gene that has been passed down in time to lead the world from darkness into the light that is metal. He also summoned the Kami Band to help with this task, Kami meaning God/ Spirit, so they are the Gods of guitar, the God of bass and the God of drums. He also chose Kikuchi Moa (Moametal) and Mizuno Yui (Yuimetal) to round out the band. There is a lot more to it but as I said it is complicated. The Fox God is said to pass them instructions through Kobametal (Producer) and so far things have worked out great for them so they just go with it. The hand gesture is a shadow puppet fox, when the girls first started in Babymetal they were shown some metal and saw people doing the devil horns and mistook it for a fox, some say that Koba saw that and thought it was cute and kind of cool so made the whole thing up about The Fox God, but I'm not so sure
There is more that comes in later to do with the light and the dark opening up a way to the mysterious planet of Arkadia but I know little about that part

Yeah, the dances they do in the music video are more or less exactly the same as the dance from a live performance. Why learn a different dance? They already know that one.
You have it backwards on the Fox. Their label was Fox before the invention of the Fox god. The story is that the girls saw the Metal horns and thought they were the Fox sign. I'm sure their label being Fox had something to do with the adoption of the Fox God. Babymetal doesn't really need an excuse to make up a mythology. Nobody still knows what 'The 7' are. I kind of assume that is the Kami band and the 3 girls. 4+3 = 7. Or rather that the 7 are the mythological representation of the Kami Band and the 3 girls.
I'm kind of tempted to make a video with Babymetal and 'the Boys'. They have a 'Starlight' and 'the 7'. Except that my PC is dead and my laptop is a toaster and i'd probably get the video blocked and a copyright strike. Other than that, totally a good idea.

Another great Babymetal reaction! Looking forward to the daily Babymetal reaction but don't fret if you can't stick to that plan as we all know things ain't easy right now everywhere. Had to Google 'Djent' but at least I learned something new and now know that it means "a subgenre of progressive metal. Its distinctive sound is a high-gain, distorted, palm-muted, low-pitch guitar sound. The name "Djent" is an onomatopoeia of this sound." You observe a lot of things that few reactors notice or at least fail to comment on (for example, that the instruments are traditional instruments and not actually capable of producing the music being played and few know what a Tanto knife is too) so hats off to you. Here's a link to the song - a traditional Japanese folk song that is very well-known in Japan - that they based the breakdown music on. It's called 'Sakura, Sakura' (さくらさくら ), 'Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom' and is a 2 minute, delicate, simple (only 4 chords - Am, Dm6, E7 and Dm) but beautiful piece: ua-cam.com/video/jqpFjsMtCb0/v-deo.html . Years ago I might have criticized them for being „manufactured“ as well. Fortunately, I have grown up, and now I can appreciate the advantages: Every person involved in the project only does what they do best. Kitsune lit means fox
    Megitsune lit means female fox/vixen.
However in a Japanese slang, "megitsune" is often used as a sexist term by cocky, arrogant men for feisty and independent women who don't conform to the demure, obedient Japanese girls they wanted.
Babymetal are here reclaiming the term for all those feisty and independent girls, telling them to be proud to be a Megitsune.
As for the fox imagery, foxes or kitsune in Japanese Shinto are very important.
These kitsune are similar to coyote in Native American folklore and they can be helpful spirit guides, or can be harmful tricksters.
They can be wise or mischievous....sometimes even outright evil.
Each kitsune has its own personality.
The Shinto goddess Inari uses kitsune as her messengers and these Inari kitsune are seen as the finest and most noble of all the kitsune.
You find Inari kitsune guarding the entrance to shrines to Inari.
As such, Inari kitsune are the kitsune Westerners are most likely to see and know.

1 BABYMETAL song per day!? You are a madman 👍
'Megitsune' is their most played song for concerts/shows. Sometimes it's their opening. For example as for 'Legend2015' at Saitama Super Arena, you saw 'Road of Resistance' from this venue. The crowd will go crazy and chant with them.🦊🤘

I'm not sure why this bothers me, but it does. When spelling BABYMETAL it's not babymetal, or BabyMetal, or Baby Metal. It should always be one word and in all caps like this BABYMETAL.

Alpha Tyler my man, they've been around for 10 years, a lot has happened, 50+ songs which are wildly different, it's a lot of information to take in. Take it easy :)
A lot of requests is coming your way. But as a DJ, I hope you will touch BM's techno-metal tunes which doesn't get much airtime from other reactors. I think this can be your niche. I'll go ahead and request FROM DUSK TILL DAWN -> ua-cam.com/video/oOlc0W_z_sU/v-deo.html . The video live compilation (they rarely perform this one), but the audio is studio quality.
    Thank you!

Be warned; All BABYMETAL roads lead to Sakura Gakuin. Pretty soon you'll be reacting to the 2012 graduation of Suzuka Nakamoto and balling your eyes out.

Death legend 1997 just tells about the year the fox God choose su-metal to lead the metal resistance to save the metal universe from destruction which is her birth year.. The band is called the kami band all males created by the fox god to back up baby babymetal to further help them in the war. Just for added information, all their blu ray/dvd concerts are considered legends and each one has a different letter. Watching them will teach you all the lore you need to know as during the concerts there are moments in between songs that describe the lore of baby metal.

You should check out the video with commentary from Suzuka, Moa and Yui in your free time. It's a lot of insight in the video, shows a little bit of their personality and most of all, it's hilarious ua-cam.com/video/RQ5I2uYHqQ4/v-deo.html. They made a few more of these for some of their earliest songs/videos, but you should watch the originals first (and I somehow can't find the link to the playlist at the moment). I think these videos were extras on one of or their first DVD(s), not sure about that.
The Kami Band are all male. Most of the time they consist of Ohmura Takayoshi (he plays the pink guitar) and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass, Hideki Aoyama on drums. Another guitarist who was a staple with them and rotated with the other two was Mikio Fujioka, but he died in Jan 2018 of complications from a fall off of an observatory deck. He was (at least in my opinion) the most technical of these three, his solos were ridiculous.
They aren't a "manufactured" group per se. Their manager/producer Key Kobayashi aka Kobametal just thought that Su's voice was way too powerful for J-Pop and because he was an oldschool metalhead he wanted to form a metal group/band around her. Moa & Yui were picked because they were the smallest of the idol group, Sakura Gakuin, BABYMETAL was a part of till 2013 and they looked like "little angels" dancing around Suzuka. Their voices were also a great contrast to Su's vocals. I don't think anyone forced them to continue BABYMETAL after 2013, I'm pretty sure they did that out of their own free will. Koba is often made out to be the bad guy and the one who has all the power and says what goes and what doesn't. I think, at least since 2017 (since Su is 20), he doesn't make a lot of decisions anymore. He said the same thing in an interview in 2018 or 2019, something like "they are grown up now, they don't need me to make their decisions for them anymore, they have the most control over the band". A lot of fans also blame him for the non-existent fan interaction and total radio silence. They don't have social media, you'll never see them out of character, there are no pics or vids of their private lifes since mid-2015 I think, all of the interviews are heavily screened and if the interviewer asks a question that wasn't green lighted before, the answer is always "only the fox god knows" or the interview gets cut short. I think it's a mix of the girls are just super private people and Japan's culture of privacy, general shyness and honoring other peoples wishes. Last time we've seen or heard anything of them was at the end of February/beginning of March, their last concert before the pandemic and all the natural disasters all over Japan (if you exclude the 1 second cameo in Corey Taylor's new video).

Actually those instruments on the back are not for play in this song, just for the show. Those are some traditional japanese instruments to add to the atmosphere of the video: kotos, shamisen, taikos... There is even a section that is a part of the Sakura, Sakura traditional japanese song: ua-cam.com/video/AK51LblcEOw/v-deo.html When they say "kitsune, kitsune...".
_Megitsune_ is one of the few songs I would recommend to react to the MV. _Iine!_ too, _Iine!_ MV is better than live, _Megistune_ is as good in the MV as in live. For the rest of the songs, it is best to go for live versions. _Megitsune_ I think you can still react to a live version a we would like it. Not saying it was an error, it was better to start with the MV, but the live one is also interesting.
About creativity and the manager. They work for Amuse that is a big pop idol company, and the manager (Koba-metal) uses a lot of the talented people that create songs for pop hits write the songs for the band sometimes, other times are the band members (No Rain No Rainbow was written by the band guitarist f.ex.), but in the end Koba says yes or no. Somewhere someone said that he returns the songs to rewrite parts even near a hundred of times until he finds them perfect. Also when the band started to grow the guy managed to gaze around Japan and assemble the best talent of the country for the band (choreographers, lighting guys, stage builders...). Koba usually gets a lot of hate from the fandom because of how he manages public relations, but without his vision anything of this would have happened. Everything that has happened in japanese metal this last decade started because he had this vision with Babymetal.
About BMD Fox, is the little brand Amuse gave to Koba-metal to manage Babymetal, but it is totally integrated in the company, it doesn't have any power.
*メギツネ* [ _Megitsune_ , female fox ], is a lament, you can clearly hear Suzuka's cry along the song. It speaks about how when women act it is not to be deceitful and crafty like foxes, but to hide the pain in their hearts. That fits in the _Kawaii culture_ trend were Babymetal fits as Kawaii Metal, it was a rebellious movement from girls since de 70s against the paper of traditional women in Japan.
The lore is not that important and no one really understands. It is probably done by Koba under a lot of weed before every concert 🤣 But in general the band follows a storyline about how metal was destroyed in ancient times by pop idol music lords, but an ancient metal warrior singer tried to battle against and died. Now the Fox God, the god of metal, has graced Su-metal with the soul of the ancient warrior reincarnated and she is battling to make metal reborn supported by two little angels. Then they fought a Metal Resistance around all the world. And now they are traveling around the Metal Galaxy in a metal ark doing I don't know what 🤣 It is not too serious, but it gives the band a fun background.

It'sa little confusing, since they are wearing white robes, but the performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group, not Kami Band musicians.
Chidori Yakumo, their director and choreographer is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
