    One of my all time favorites and “go to’s”. It’s actually been banned for a time in my club. Not from injuries, but from people cherry picking it over harder more technical throws that get air 😂

    I used to always consider this a beginner's technique but after seeing a few videos of things going wrong it gives you a new impression

    I use this throw (or at least the principle) in MMA/No gi while holding onto my opponent from the back (body lock...around the waist). It is a super easy way to take them down and end up on top..Thanks again! Uss!

    Judo Kate had her knee pop with this. Good to know how to do and teach safely.

    Main rule is domt drop ur weight on the side of them because they fall with u sideways and their knee will bend sideways to the outside in a drection it dont bend, gotta behimd the knee and drop with him backwards so he falls with his knee just bending backwards the normal way i love this move when trying to get hip to hip if i camt get the hip throw or to counter a hip throw or even use it to gently take someone down cuz when u do it u can control their ppsture and bend it backwards to slowly bring them down

    Thank you so much for the video. I enjoy your calm, profound and solid way of showing the technique. I wonder what previous movements of the person being thrown with this technique makes you chose this throw over another? Best wishes. Henry

      It’s all in the fake. Fake uchimata to get his reaction, then hit the Tani to the back

      @@nickyonezuka-cranfordjkc4931 When I was young ... I used to have hours and hours of training where I have to fake a tai otoshi or uchimata as an entrance and to get my tani worked. We tried to initiate & create the momentum to have my final tani otoshi. Indeed, I agree with Mr. Florian Muller regarding your calm and solid way to teach your students got my attention. Oss.

      Do the same thing except with an overhook and a grip on the far wrist. Might be better if the back of your overhook hand is on his chest.

    so if you shouldnt go for the near leg, does that mean kosoto gake is equally unsafe?

    I have had my MCL sprained twice as well as my ankle once from "tani o toshi" done improperly. I put the technique in quotation becaue when it's done improperly It really isn't tani o toshi..
    It goes wrong when Tori sits/blocks Uke's leg and throws perpendicular to the knee joint producing a valgus force on the joint... sort of like a "drop" ura nage (yes I know that's not a thing, that's why it gets people injured) In worst case scenarios you can tear the MCL, PCL and ACL all from one horribly executed and carelessly done "technique"..

    only guaranteed safe way of doing tani otoshi is to not block the knee or leg at all. if you watch tokio hirano do it in the old black and white videos, and the kodokan videos. there's no blocking at all with the leg, purpose of that leg is just to help you sit your weight down with a baseball slide.

      Yes, if you notice how I did it with the far leg , I don’t hook or make much contact, just focus on direction

    My favorite video on this is the reference from the Kodokan youtube channel itself: ua-cam.com/video/3b9Me3Fohpk/v-deo.html . Even less danger of dropping weight on the knee, and illustrates the actual otoshi mechanic going on.

    • @florianm.h.muller6181
      @florianm.h.muller6181 Рік тому

      Depends on how the other person can fall (or how mean you throw them ...) and what you do next (top position etc.). Best Regards

      Unless you bounce someone’s head off the floor you should not rely on throws to finish the fight. Stomps will do that tho after the throw
