Is Nier Automata Better than Bayonetta?

- After recently finishing Nier Automata, and Bayonetta 1 & 2, I've noticed some similarities between the two franchises.
Nier definitely borrows a lot of action elements from Bayonetta and since both Bayonetta and Nier were made by Platinum Games - I can't help but question; Which Game is better.
A couple of months ago I asked, "what if Bayonetta were open world?"
Nier seems to be that hypothetical version of an open world Bayonetta game.
Could Nier Automata be the open World version of Bayonetta i've always wanted?
More Importantly, does that made it Better than Bayonetta 1 & 2?
Let me know which game you all think could be better, Nier Or Bayonetta?

Sounds like repeating general consensus. Have you played all Bayo games? There is a cool depth and the story is quite convoluted if you go deeper. The story is enough but naturally the combat is focus, and naturally it doesn’t compare to the story of Nier which is quite deep and poetic, but I wouldn’t completely discard the crazy depth of bayo father sacrificing his body to become a vessel for ever god, or bayo raising her younger self who becomes someone to traverse multiverse against nano cell AI that consumes all life. Bayo has more diverse styles through the trilogy and is more unique. Gameplay wise Bayo is far better. Music and story definitely Nier.

Bayonetta wins for me by far. Witch Time is my favorite mechanic for these types of games. And Bayo had a good story despite it not being the focus. Nier had an amazing story, but I don't find myself caring about the combat. The Open world of Nier never struck me as appealing. The side quest were worth doing for the story, but they didn't do anything to spice up the gameplay. The thing I love most about Nier is that the story was as good as it was because it was a video game.

Yes, I did. I found stacking defense chips more helpful because I always let myself get hit like an idiot. The lack Witch Time wasn't really the shortcoming of Nier's combat tho.

Manatwar55 Nier was an Action RPG rather than a full on Action game like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. It actually had one of the best combat systems done for an Action RPG, even games like Witcher 3, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts didn't even have combat as good as Nier Automata although Kingdom Hearts was close.
I love both games immensely but they are different. Personally, I don’t see reasons for comparisons since they both have different aims with their designs. People toss around this comparison due to PlatinumGames developing it but it aims to be different from Bayonetta. It’s a Yoko Taro game despite being developed by PG and they made sure to execute the game in his vision and keep the feeling of NieR. Bayonetta is character action and NieR is a action RPG. Yoko Taro’s fear was that PG would deliver a character action game that was level based but PG stayed true and showed that they are capable of doing even more besides character action. The seamless world of NieR has been a thing since the first game and won’t be going away at all. It’s a JRPG. If PG were to collaborate with Yoko on his IP Drakengard, that would be a better comparison since that’s more so a character action/hack n slash title and all titles were practically level based. Yoko’s inspiration with NieR comes from Zelda.
I love the story in Neir Automata. However, i love the action in Bayonetta.
I like nier story and soundtracks way more than bayonetta, the only thing i like bayonnetta is it combats. For me, comparing this two which their focus are entirely diferent.

NieR Automata will not coming on Switch! NieR Automata SE Producer Yosuke Saito confirmed even on his Japanese Twitter account last two months ago that it will definitely only PS4/PC exclusive! But maybe you can someday play NieR Automata (PC Version) via Rainway stream-app on the Switch! The only thing you need is a good internet connection!

And now even The Witcher 3 is coming to the Switch, which means it may be possible for Nier to come to the Switch as well.
Nier: Automata was the best game of 2017 for me, but if I absolutely had to choose one or the other, I'd go with Bayonetta. I still regularly play the first Bayo game over a decade after its release simply because to this day the combat and the characters feel fresh and exciting to me. Automata was a goddamn masterpiece story-wise, but I don't really have much of a desire to pick it up again. Not for a few years, at least.

I'm not sure I would want a leveling system in Bayonetta, what makes Bayonetta so dynamic compared to any other action game (NG, DMC, GoW etc) is the ability to use witch time at will and do crazy combos on the fly without the need progress weapon leveling or such.
So basically you want to turn it into an Action RPG? I say nope cause thats what games like Nier, Witcher, Kingdom Hearts, and FFXV are for. Games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry are better in terms of combat because that is their focus. If they became full Action RPGs then combat will not be as good.
Kingdom4Real Leveling up would also then cause you to one shot enemies in earlier chapters which goes against what Bayonetta is all about, can't do stylish combos if enemies die in one hit.

This is a pure skill-based action game, it shouldn't have other elements that will change its focus.

Bayonetta gets the win from me for a majority of reasons, but one of the major reasons is its shooting mechanics. In Bayonetta you shoot guns that are physically attached to your character, and as such it comes with certain limitations, for instance you are unable to move as quickly and you're only allowed to shoot in the direction Bayonetta is facing. To maximize the guns usefulness you also have to mash the button, making it so that staying out of combat for too long results in some amount of pain from mashing, discouraging sitting back and shooting even though doing so is difficult already since enemies can just run at you. In Automata the shooting mechanic is put inside of the pod, which allows you to run at full speed, dodge, and shoot where the camera is aiming. This results in being able to handle almost every encounter by just running away and shooting without having to worry about being hit.

Bayonnetta for me although freat gamepmay, i didn't last an impression on me than flashy combat and that it. Nier i have a lot more.
Both are an absolute blast to play through from one of the best dev team out there but, for me personally, Bayonetta wins hands down.
Bayonetta has the better gameplay, but NieR has the better story.
Bayonetta is hotter than 2b and that's all that matters.
The games are two very different things and can't be compared.

I don't think so. Bayonetta is clearly an extrovert, whiles 2b is quite introverted, but both of them are focused. The only downside is that 2b is an android and bayonetta can shape shift. And pray she doesn't shape shift when you're banging her.

Even though you seemed to have played through (at least) most of NieR:Automata, this review was so uninformed that it almost entirely invalidated itself. Aside from the valid points about your personal preferences, there was no real acknowledgement of Yoko Taro or, really, anything surrounding the context of the NieR/Drakengard franchise, which, yes, is very important for being able to make informed opinions, let alone "definitive" comparison videos.
If I had to pick one positive thing from all this, it's that I'm glad you got to play both of these amazing games and that you actually pursued NieR:Automata's story to the point of finding satisfaction (I'm hoping and assuming that that means you didn't stop at ending [A]).
Bayonetta for gameplay, Nier for the story.
The only reason Bayonetta 2 got such high scores from a lot gaming outlets was for traffic. At the time so many people were pissed that Bayo 2 was Wii-U exclusive thus flooding comment sections "expressing" their dislike. Bayo 2 was an easier version of Bayo 1, the weapons of Bayo 2 are mostly the same weapons from the first, the story was weak, and characters weren't as strong as the first. Now Nier Automata was none of those things and even encourage multiple playthroughs. The combat of Automata allows for more customizing then Bayo 2. The story alone makes you question what it means to be alive with most of the side characters/quests that goes deeper in the lore. I highly recommend ValkyrieAurora's channel for those who want to know more about Nier.
Bayo 2 got good user reviews too. It's overall a smoother and more bombastic game than the first one. The combat is more shallow but reviewers often don't care about that.

Bayonetta is a lot more focused as an action game.
Even comparing the enemy design, Bayonetta wins.
In Bayonetta enemies all have a unique design and attacks patterns, that constantly change each level.
Nier's badguys are just rust buckets that swing their arms and boring to watch.
Not to mention how easy Nier is to play. Most action game fans want to be challenged.

They are both respectively unique games.this comparisson is like comaparing apples to oranges. Bayonetta is a linear straight to the point, ball busting action adventure with balnced and over the top action.
Nier is an open world story driven rpg.though both games combat are very similar to each other they are extremly unique and all other aspects. I love both games so much.
Oh and by the way theres also a time slowing augment called overclock innier which mimics bayonettas witch time albeit in my opinion better. Because you can maxout overclock to 5secs as opposed to witch time having randomized or enemy based slowtime counter

I choose both as they are both excellent games. Picking only one of them is pointless when we can have both.
I wish I could have both but Bayonetta is on the switch and Nier is on the PS4 and it will take a while to save up enough money fore me to just buy one of those consuls.
I don't think Nier Automata should be considered automatically better than Bayonetta because it has the latter's combat plus JRPG open world and story. I mean it is definitely appealing and the main reason everyone wanted to play Nier Automata. However I feel like those same JRPG elements limit the over-the-top combat it takes from Bayo. Take the enemies for instance. Bayonetta's enemy design, in my opinion, is way more creative and challenging than Nier's, making the combat more exhilerating and better overall. I think comparing Bayonetta to something like Devil May Cry or Wonderful 101 would more appropriate.

I don't think they're the same kind of games, not even remotely similar. Bayonetta has a far deeper combat system than Nier Automata, not to mention its far more varied enemy and boss design. Automata's combat system never serves to be the centre piece, and I feel with the lack of weapon variety and enemies that are tailored for its combo possibilities, it's rather weak on the combat.
Nier made me wonder. What if Skyrim actually had a good combat system? That would be such a epic game. Don't get me wrong I love Skyrim but it's combat is it's weakest part. Story / world is the best ❣️

as a whole gaming experience ye I think nier is better, but bayonettas combat is better and deeper, but thats the whole point of the game anyway.
Bayo is fun but I had more fun playing nier cause of its many different combat set pieces, dont get me wrong bayo is good action but that's all it is. The story the main protagonist the dialogue not the best but it's trying to be like devilmaycry which I dont blame it for but its not much of else. Yes gameplay matters, but story, characters, themeing, the script aka the dialog all matter the problem with bayo as a game it doesnt bring up story as much as it should to give you a reason to keep playing and learn about the world. Nier does combat close to bayo but doesnt go all out on action because nier was never meant to be an action game it's a jrpg like the original nier cause platinum games were huge fans of the original game and Yoko taro didnt want them to destroy the combat just improve on it and platinum agreed. To be honest tho while I love bayo i only played it once then never again but nier not only has multiple playthroughs but i couldn't put the game down cause i was enveloped in yoko's world the music, the characters, the setting and areas, the villains, the style switches just everything oh... and that final main ending was the best thing ever, brought tears to my eyes as I smiled and wont be a thing I forget ever. Yes bayo is an amazing action game but nier is a better game and experience over all it's why it was my game of year of 17 and no game has beat it in my eyes since 10/10 for me easily

While I agree that Bayonetta does not has the best story I have to say Bayonetta is great Character. She is not the most deep ore complex but she still a Character with heart.

Like I said I dont have a PS4 and I dont really intend on getting one.
I was actully saving money fore a switch with my main motivation being Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3. The one thing that actually tempts to get a PS4 Is Persona 5 the Royal. The Blue rays to Made in Abyss is something high on my priority list too. The thing is Nier really does not appeal to me. I watched just a little bit of the Nier Letsplay from NicoB and it left me with a "Not my cup of tea" impact. Now I totally could be wrong and maybe I would love it but why risk it if I can spend my money on something I know I would love?
I mean everybody says how great the writing in Nier is but its no guarantee I like it too. Everybody also I said Ocarina of time is a great game but I hated it.
Everybody says Avatar is one of the greatest cartoons ever but I found it just good and to me its nowhere near as great as Digimon Tamers (with the German dub, god I hate the english one) and Made in Abyss. Its all a matter of personal preferences. When it comes to awesome Characters in fiction those 2 shows stole my heart like nothing else before.
If I get a PS4 I could rent Nier fore free from my city’s library so I could get the consul I need fore Persona 5 the Royal and get a shoot at nier without risking to waste money on something I might not like. I am actually also interested in Devil May Cry V. The PS4 becomes more and more attractive. But I still like Bayonetta. Say what you want but to me she is a great Character I love to play as.
I found it kinda funny myself but my main reason fore wanting a Switch ore a PS4 can be boiled down too me liking a Character a lot and want to see more of that Character. Fore the Switch its Bayonetta and fore the PS4 it Morgana who is my favourite Video game companion to this day.
But right now I have to save money fore real live purposes any ways. So thinking about buying consoles and games is pretty pointless yet I am doing it anyway.
When I have some spending money Bayonetta, Persona 5 the Royal ore Made in Abyss. Which is it going to be? Such decisions can be fun and painful at the same time.

I honestly could not for the life of me understand why everyone was dropping their masterpiece panties for NiEr. It to me was subpar on its combat, which looks flashy but has zero depth compared to even early dmc games. It was also developed by the B team at platinum; Bteam game basically. Bayo’s combat and gameplay is literally the most advanced for a game and will hook you just as long as completing Niers story, and niers story is very good but idk why they had to make you replay the damn game 4 times. Like why not just keep the story and open world going without replaying it for New story? Makes no sense to me and it feels lazy to me. Just wait for nier automata 2 or whatever. Or I’m fact wait for Kaminya to touch Nier. Then it will be good

Of course Bayonetta has better combat, it's a straight action game with a throw away story. But Nier is an Action RPG. This whole comparison makes no sense anyway. Nobody compared the first Nier to Devil May Cry or God of War but just because Automata's combat was made by Platinum games it gets compared to standard Action games as if it was suppose to be one.
Nier: Automata was 4th in Game of the Year wins in 2017 after Zelda, Horizon, and Mario, all of which had substantially larger marketing warchests and that influence which games get recognized in these awards.

Both have two weapon sets, Dodge perks, Giant bosses, and Made in-part by the same developers.
Leveling up and the open world is the only real difference. Most games like Darksiders and Even MGS evolved to that anyway.
Okay but the thing is, one is an open world game, the other isn't. Neir is an open world game that you can get spent hours lost in that has hours of quests, while bayonetta is more of a straight forward game. Bayonetta you can't really level up, instead you collect items and get better at the game as you progress. If I had to choose which game I prefer it'll be bayonetta, only in the sense that I don't like open world games as they feel too bare and full of nothing with too many side quests. I still haven't finished Neir, but hopefully I will. But to me at the end of the day you can't compare these games, their both good in their own ways, and should be enjoyed as Platinum games is a great company that needs to be recognized more in the gaming world.
+Chris Toro No, Nier: Automata was written and directed by Yoko Taro, who directed the original Nier game as well as the guy behind the Drakengard games that preceded it. Nier: Automata is not a pure hack and slash game, nor are any of the games in the Nier/ Drakengard games before it. Platinum brought in their combat design and mechanics, which is apparently the only thing you're able to see. The reason it was 4th in 2017 in GotY awards and the runaway winner of most Best Story/ Narrative and Best Music was not due to just Platinum's combat mechanics.
