    Hey Shawn. Great job on these videos. I love your channel! So being "almost" a senior, turning on the backswing seems a little more restricted than it could be. So I was in the back yard today with some practice balls and a 4 iron. I know 4 iron can be a tough club to hit for some. So when I was hitting it really well, that was a good sign.
    So here's what I did. I've been using the strong grip you recommend. Then I took my normal setup. Next I drew the right foot (back foot) back to close the stance. I brought the club back inside the line as the closed stance allowed me to do (and makes it a lot easier). Then I discovered something. And I'm wondering if this is related to Hogan's comment where he said he wished he had 3 right hands..... So with the closed stance I found I couldn't turn fast enough in the downswing and my body literally couldn't "go left". In other words no matter how fast I turned, when I turned, my body "faced" the target at the end of a balanced follow through. I could not face left of target if I tried... physically. So I found that I was not only hitting the ball straight and solid, but I could turn as fast as I wanted and really "thrash" the ball and it was being hit real solid. The turn was the kind that swept the grass real nice and along the target line. So if I didn't "turn hard", I think my shots would have gone to the right. And this is where I was wondering how so many seniors have ugly looking swings but they hit the ball 250 down the middle.. they all turn hard. Maybe the closed stance was getting my backswing into an ideal "backswing slot"??? Your thoughts?

      Hey Steve!
      On our premium channel, we have an extensive series called the Diagonal Stance Series which takes you through why Hogan was so successful with the longer clubs with this stance. You can fade, draw, do anything with it and you will understand why it is so powerful!

    Should the trail arm be straight at address or have a little bend? When should trail arm begin to fold? Sometimes I struggle with tension trying to have a wide backswing!

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 місяців тому

      Width comes from turn; can’t have it without it; like sending a punch with the lead hand away from the target; you can’t get a nice wide extension without turning out of the way; on our premium channel, see the “lead hand release” videos to create that width in the backswing, great task there; then to feel where to fold, see the “super slow, super relaxed, super wide series” and you will feel that right away and use the “perpetual motion drill” series and the “kinetic chain facilitation series” to blend it together with flow!

    Should the trail elbow be on your side at the top or is there seperation? Ive heard both. Any video on this?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 місяців тому

      Wide away from your side; just like baseball, tennis, throwing…EVERY SPORT. The elbow to the side was taught to golfers who were told they had an over the top swing and they needed to do that to fix it; WHY WERE THEY OVER THE TOP?? Because the ball was their target and of the ball is your target, you have to be over the top; where as over the top cannot exist when you have the ball as the intersection on the way to the real target. Please see “over the top shawn clement” and “flying elbow shawn clement”

    I hear a lot of talk about how the left wrist goes into an extension release which keeps the club square to the arc with no rolling of the face like you show here, which requires timing.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 місяців тому

      Biggest bunk there is! Our anatomy is designed for this and this release will be found with 150 out of 200 of the top pros in the world where the others are strong enough and even then, the surgeries on the lead wrists are rampant! That is all bunk!

    • @maeu59
      @maeu59 10 місяців тому +1

      @@golflessons I would say a bowed lead wrist is how most pros swing the club, which can lead to surgeries, but now there’s a trend (on UA-cam anyway) of lead wrist going into extension just like Mike Austin promoted, nothing new but no rotation of the face. What I find amazing is how many of these pros have a hard time hitting a fairway, maybe due to the rolling of the face.

      fades only work starting with 7 or 8 irons into the longer ones; short irons and wedges just stay straight because of the loft; also see “how to match backswing to target” but it sounds like you have sorted all this out on the premium channel with me already right?😀👍

  • @srvafool

    So Mu and Sav's elbow pits both face the sky at address? Now I'm really confused... At the 2 minute mark, your lead elbow pit is facing more backwards than up??? Shouldn't the elbows be mirror images of each other. At least that's what I thought I got from the first 3 minutes of this video??? At the 8:35 mark, your lead elbow pit is facing backwards, not up. So you have to manipulate it from facing the sky at address to facing the target at impact? Pretty confusing Shawn.

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  10 місяців тому

      Go to the lumber jack part; both elbow pits would be facing up to the sky about 45 to 60 degrees IF YOU WERE CHOPPING WOOD STRAIGHT DOWN; however, IF YOU WERE CHOPPING DOWN A TREE, which would be sending a ball to a target, THE LEAD ELBOW PIT FACES MORE AWAY FROM THE TARGET (now at about 30 degrees) WHILE THE TRAIL ELBOW FACES MORE UP TO THE SKY (at about 90 degrees)
