Produced by Milton Bradley in 1992, Forbidden Bridge was a dice based adventure game like no other. It featured a mechanical idol that shook the bridge on the game board when players threw and unlucky dice roll. Hasbro later acquired the rights and reprinted the game in 2021 with some changes

Yes, I know, "dice" is plural. Yes, I've eaten plenty of crow for misspeaking. 😆
dice is also used as the singular form now! “die” has largely fallen out of fashion
@@CratthewFis or are people just unknowningly using the wrong word...
@@scottspeck4883 nah they actually changed it, dice is both now.
@desertwind666 what is your source,?
Omg! I have this game. It's so much find to play. Hmmm... I should get this out play it again. Because haven't played this in ages. 😊👍👍
I stumbled upon this game at a clearance store recently and got it. It was interesting that it doesn't need batteries. The shaking bridge effect is done with a purely mechanical action.
That's VERY cool!
What? That's very cool
That's what I guessed.
This looks like such a cool game.
Huge score. Had one as a kid. Have newer one now but it's cheaper made in my eyes.
Kinda like Screwball Scramble in that respect
I now want a modern updated version and a Lego set based on this game. Give me both Milton!!
@saahir18 well, I have some good news, Hasbro started reproducing the game in 2021. The board is a bit smaller, and the sculpts have changed, but it's still Forbidden Bridge! You can buy a copy of the new 2021 version of Forbidden Bridge from Hasbro with this link:

Good news! I bought a rerelease of this game for my kids at Target just a couple of years ago, whether that is still in production or not I don't know, but at the very least it should be much easier to get a copy 2nd hand. It is basically an exact duplicate of the original, although I think the shake mechanism may have been improved from when I was a kid.
Most memorable game we had growing up and the tension of the bridge shake was perfect. He didn't mention it but you can see in the video that your pieces were designed to latch on and "save" themselves in hilariously dangerous ways.
The "hang from the ankles" was a classic save!
Near the feet, right? I saw that, but I was concerned that it was just a coincidence.
We had this game! My dad wrapped the idol's face in masking tape because he took the idolatry commandments way too literally. 😂
Does masking tape prevent the idol from having been built though? I'm pretty sure the rule is not to build them, not to just cover their faces.
ah yes I too remember when Moses descended from the mountain, commandments in hand, and how he threw them on the ground shouted dal gurn it and started wrapping the golden calf in tape
🤣
The commandment is to not WORSHIP idols, not to not make them. :)
What did your dad think of the tv show American idol?
I thought this was a childish toy until the bridge started moving when the idol was pressed. Seeing that, brought out my inner child and just makes this look like the coolest thing ever.
That's why mechanical board games like this are my jam. So much fun!
@@OldCrappyCouch I had forgotten about this, the game had one of the coolest commercials ever.
Any board game with a cool mechanical/physical gimmick never fails to bring out the child in me
@@OldCrappyCouch I completely agree with OP. In fact, at first, I honestly thought that you were just a loser with a weird preference, until you explained how the game worked. Now, I have so much respect for you. Hahaha
This game makes me want to modify it for a sequel/expansion.
@@OldCrappyCouch For a sequel to the game, maybe there could be a set of rules that require cooperation. It could be like that brain teaser, where 4 people have to cross a bridge, but can cross at different speeds. How does the team get all players across as quickly as possible?
This thing OOZES 90s and now I want it
The grindy/whiny sound of the idol slowly rising is permanently etched into my brain.
That *iconic* grindy/whiny sound lives rent free in my brain as well! The new version of the game does have a nicer mechanism, which is my favorite part of the update. Here's my comparison video if you'd like to hear for yourself! ua-cam.com/video/cq3OCmHAWtM/v-deo.html
Yes!
I wanted this game back in the 90s, and I STILL want it 30 years later...
How did I forget about this games' existence!? It's like Mouse Trap on crack
Board James vibes
"It'll toss you off" - SOLD!
Can we play yet Dad. No! Few more minutes I'm nearly there.
I was wondering does that mean the same thing in American English…
😆
@@thephilosophercactus I think it means what I think you think it means. If you know what I mean.
This, Mousetrap and The Harbingers made my childhood awesome
Looks like a combination of my two favorite 90s board games, "Fireball Island" and "Alligator Alley"
Definitely has the same vibe as Fireball Island!
Do you have a link to alligator alley? I wasn't able to find anything from a google search.
I did find a video of some elementary school teacher showcasing an outdoor chalk game with three different movement options though so that seemed similar in a way lol
Born in ‘88 and grew up in the USA but don’t remember this game at all. Looks super fun, would love to play a round with my family!
WOW! Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I played this game as a kid and loved it.
IT’S FORBIDDEN!!!!!!! I saved this game and still have it today 30 years later. My son thinks it’s so cool
Yooo, the way those pieces clung on to that bridge, if I didn't see it happen, I would've guessed that you put them in those positions, that's awesome
The design for the bridge allows for some very dramatic tumbling of the player pieces. It really makes the game feel more intense when you see your little explorer clinging on for dear life!
My god the Fuwawa looks amazing on the daki, my neurons are on fire. Mococo is also very great, but love Fuwa a bit more so hers is my favorite
I played this as a kid, but didn't remember till now. Thank you for restoring the memory!
@@matthewgeritz344 Glad it was a nice little blast of nostalgia, thanks for watching!
Thanks for your video! Wow, memory unlocked! I don't even remember when I played this, or where, but I was a kid and it was great. I only played it once and this reminded me of that time - that goes to show how much fun it was back then. Have to pick this up now for my nieces and nephew!
The new version from Hasbro plays really well. The kids will love it!
I played this when I was a kid at the shrinks office. Lol
90's board games were truly something special. Simple, over the top, and requiring batterie. This one reminds me of a Crocodile Hunter game our family played that was the same way.
Dudeeee!
I remember playing this at a friend's house. I loved that game.
I had forgotten it existed.
The new version is pretty solid as well. Great game!
Ohhh!! What memories. I was too young to keep it in perfect condition, and now that I'm older, I wish I still had it.
Awesome MB Game out of an awesome time for board games. Here in Germany it's called "Geheimnis im Dschungel" (Secret in the jungle).
That's cool, I wonder why they changed the name for the German market. It's always interesting to see little variations like that with products!
@OldCrappyCouch Well I love how the German one is not underlining the bridge that much but more the jungle theme itself. So it felt really like there are so many dangerous things lurking in the jungle and the bridge is just one of them.
I remember this game!!! Wow, it was buried deeeep within my childhood memories... I miss games like these!
This and It From the Pit were two of my favorite games growing up!
Thanks for showing this dude. Such great memories playing this game and I had forgotten its name.
I remember playing this. Classic. Triggered great memories I had completely forgot about
Memory unlocked!! I completely forgot about this game!! I always wanted to play it as a kid.
@@matarael Hasbro made an updated version for 2021 that's actually got a nice new mechanism that runs a lot smoother. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out: amzn.to/3Z1S5Hq
OMG I had this game too. It was so much fun. Those little gemstones were so cool. Shaking the bridge was the best part
I was hella excited when I saw that they did a rerelease of this game. It's super awesome
That was one of the best games. I played that hundreds of times! I wish my parents would have kept it…
I've got some great news for you! Hasbro re-made Forbidden Bridge recently. I'll be doing a review in the future to cover all of the differences, but it's still the same great game. Legends of the Hidden Temple: THE BOARD GAME! :D
They rereleased it fairly recently. They had it at Target and it quickly became one of my favorite games.
I have a comparison video that looks at both versions. Hasbro did a good job with their updated version. The gameplay is just as good as it ever was!
I remember playing this. Was a lot of fun. More than I’d expect just looking at it now.
Mom I want Jumnaji
Mom: We already have Jumanji at home.
Jumanji at home:
OH.
IT FROM THE PIT!!!
@@nkling02 It's on the list!
@OldCrappyCouch oh, goodie
I wanted this so badly!
One of those 90's toys that was actually cool! 🤘
I remember having that, there was also this Twister Devil thing where you spin an enemy and it will gradually roll down the board knocking off players as it went down.
Tornado Rex, great game and kinda hard to find these days!
Ok, I totally watch too many cake videos 😂😂. When it started I thought it was a cake and I was ooo that’s a really well done cake 😂
@@furbosorella The Forbidden Bridge game board would make for an awesome looking cake! 😆 It probably wouldn't be too hard for some of those talented bakers. Fireball Island would also be cool!
1st thoughts was to combine this with fire 🔥 ball island 🏝 as a Game in a game mechanic.
Funny you say that, I recently got a copy of the Fireball Island re-print. The games have such a similar feel, and there IS a bridge on Fireball Island 🤔 you may be on to something!
Send a letter to Nordicware!
One of my favourite childhood game
Let restoration games know about this, they've released beautiful products so far

Goodness me!
"It'll toss you off!"
Sounds like a bargain!
Loved this game when I was a kid!! Totally forgot about it until this video! Thank you for sharing
So when i was young me and my friends would get together to play games, a few times it was at my house and we would play volcano island, then i got forbidden bridge, and me and my friends added it to our game play, if any player lands on a bridge in volcano island they had to make it across the forbidden bridge or start over, both games had angry idols and it was just fun pretending there as an island somewhere that had a bunch of terrible traps and dangers, including bridges that could shake without warning.
That's awesome!
They created a second game with a similar concept, called Dynamite. That was my favourite game as a young child.
@@adiuntesserande6893 Someone else pointed out how similar the sculpts for the player pieces are between Forbidden Bridge and Dynamite. I was very surprised!
This game looks cool AF.
Interestingly, for what it is, it’s not based on any specific movie or tv show.
Creative.
Seems inspired by Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider
Man hell yeah welcome back board james
I loved this game as a kid
I remember wanting this so much as a kid.
I remember how desperately I wanted this game when I was little. I remember playing it, but I don't think we actually owned it.

HOOOOOO THANK YOU!!!! I was searching the name of the game for sooooooo long🤯 i had it when i was young.
I remember games like these
3D, interactive, easy to follow rules
About how Ð&Ð is supposed to be run
Man, they don't make cool board games like this anymore.
I love tabletop and board games. definitely need this in my collection
I had it. I played roll games and used this game A LOT with many different groups, mostly children. In some games. I used a Goro (from Mortal combat) as a guardian that could snatch the ruby. hours and hous of fun!
Saw that during in the last episode of Board James. It's a shame they never actually got to do a full review because all the horror took over. But it was still a good episode.
Still have it! It looked so cool!
Dude this is sick!!!
bro, I completely forgot about this game. I used to love playing as a kid
That game was the best! Good times!
I played this game with my doctor when I was a kid
I made a board game and mentioned it to my sisters, now my youtube feed is showing me boardgames.
Funny. UA-cam is listening.
Always watching ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This game got so much play from me in 1995
I loved Forbidden Bridge, but it actually took the Silver when I was growing up. The Gold?
That went to my cousin's Fireball Island. That game was awesome AF!
Now that Hasbro owns all of Milton Bradley's IPs, they need to bring both of them back for the 21st Century!
Fireball Island is a great game! Forbidden Bridge only wins for me because it was the one I had growing up. I love me some Fireball Island!
awesome! definitely makes me want to play
Board James 👁️
I was hoping someone would say this
I really wish I had my original copy. I loved the game as a kid. I bought the reprint, but it's definitely cheaper.
Never played it but it looks awesome
“It’ll toss you off”. Yes please.
Yeah... I learned a bit about the nuances of American vs. UK English with this video, lol.
Never saw this game! I had one called "Rumble in The Jungle" that was similar, was my absolute favorite
Rumble in the Jungle looks like it's half Mouse Trap, half Fireball Island! That's awesome!
The 90s had the best boardgames. Games like Forbidden Bridge, IT From the Pit, and Fireball Island were all bangers. I played Fireball Island at a friends house once at a sleepover. Along with the dice roles there were cards you could get that gave you an edge. One I actually used just blew me away for how cool the idea was. If another player hits your spot and you have the jewel you need to get off the island, they take it. But the card I had showed an adventurer handing over a fake jewel at gunpoint while hiding the real one behind his back. To a little kid that was really cool and blew me away.
They did re-release Fireball Island but changed everything. You have to buy all kinds of extra packs to really make the game work, and I didn't know that before bringing it to my nephew. Boo to DLC and micro-transactions for boardgames!
May I suggest going over how to play first then going over the aesthetics of the piece, it’ll help captivate your viewers and encourage them to stay for the full length, cheers!
I think I had this game growing up. Haven't thought of this game in a long time.
yellow be like: "don't you know I'm still standing better than i ever did"
Sorta reminds me of Piranha panic! I loved that game as a kid
Now that sounds like a game I'll have to check out!
i had this growing up. Loved it!
Had this game! Loved it!
I remember playing this. It was pretty fun.
It’s a simple but effective type game
Simplicity is often genius!
Loved this game as a kid. Cover Tornado Rex next!
I thought this was based off Legends of the Hidden Temple
Kinda looks like it now that you mention it!
This was a great game.
Also "It from the pit" was top notch....you could combine the games if you were creative enough lol
As silly as it may be, I'm all for adding more to the adventure!
This takes me back
Forbidden island does that ring a bell
Are you perhaps thinking of Fireball Island? ua-cam.com/video/Vy7EYKBVkIg/v-deo.html
@ no
It’s a game with tiles I played it
And they sink
Oh yeah, me and my sister loved it!
I love that game, I used to have it too
that really looks like fun!
This game was fun. Not as good as Tornado Rex and It From the Pit though.
Man my childhood rocked.
Played this with my kids the voice that maked the statue was nerve breaking
We had the same game concept in Europe. It was called dynamite but it was from Parker
Who remembers, 'It from the pit'
I remember this game! I was trying to describe it to my wife, but couldn't remember the name. I "played" this for hours - we never actually played using the rules but it was like a make believe Indiana Jones that you could move around
Some of these games made for great playsets back in the day. Forbidden Bridge was so well made, it could handle being just a toy!
This is dope, I might have to buy it if I see it

OMG I HAD THIS AS A KID 😂😂 I FREAKING LOOOOOOVED THIS GAME
I love this game, never played it properly, we just shook the people off
@@ZeacorZeppelin As long as you had fun, I think that's all that matters! 😆
Tornado Rex was my favorite abd it wiuld be nice if a publisher could bring it back like 13 Dead End Drive was.
Tornado "totally not a green version of Taz" Rex was a good one that would be prime for a remake!
