Despite the fact that this is a bad recording, the harpsichord is such a mighty instrument. There is so much of a difference between the bass notes and the treble notes. The bass is very powerful, and the treble is light and virtuous. The harpsichord is fantastic!
What a raucously wonderful performance. Scarlatti’s use of dissonance and the way he treats the Harpsichord like a flamenco guitarist is amazing. Love this ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mr puyana is one of several reasons to be proud of being Colombian, how great is this performance!!! you see... we are passion, dedication, we are love for what we do and much more!!!
Gracias, Gyula
Amazing how adding that one extra octave completely changes the character of the piece. When I hear this piece it sounds downright creepy; I almost expect to hear Vincent Price's voice. But when Scott Ross plays it, it doesn't sound like that at all. Same instrument minus the extra octave. Just amazing the way the character of this piece changes by either changing the number of octaves or the instrument it's played on (harpsichord versus piano).
Alguien podria aclararme?
@marsvltor2 I agree. The German harpsichords always sound brassy and harsh where as, to me anyway, the French and Flemish instruments are very sweet sounding.
@JanPB Wow okay, thanks. And its usually the bottom manual that slides forward to do the coupling, but on this instrument I have no idea. I would guess the middle manual couples to the top, or maybe its all three..lol. Thats amazing that this instrument is historical as well, there aren't many left that were made in the old period. And its okay, I just wanted to know all that you told me. Mr. Puyana is extremely lucky to have access to these wonderful instruments. Does he own any of them?
The big Hass is a breathtaking instrument, but (like all German instruments), it sounds 'hard', and rather tiring, unlike Ruckers, Kirckman, Hemsch, etc, that one could listen to for ever...
@marsvltor2 I agree. The German harpsichords always sound brassy and harsh. The French and Flemish instruments are very sweet sounding. The Italian are somewhat dry like the German though.
I believe this instrument is the single extant triple judged to be completely genuine and historical. I only have a copy of Boalch I here, which lists 9 others, but they're labeled doubtful or modern. That infamous faker Franciolini delivered several "triples" to collectors in the early 20c, including a converted Cristofori, and a famous one by Bolcioni. Personally, the appeal of these monster ones escapes me.

Long Live Colombia!!!! We don't have only drugs, but awesome musicians such as Master Puyana. I'm very proud to be Colombian!
Yeah... You Colombians have also a myriad of wonderful folk music.
RIP Mr. Puyana..your artistry will live on.

Whoa deep, deep bass notes on a harpsichord. I never knew they went that low.
Refined technique and very studied and an incredible instrument for 3 keyboards! That mark is the instrument, it will be possible to know!!

Hieronymus Albrecht Hass lived and worked in Hamburg. This instrument is one of the very few harpsichords with 3 manuals.
What an instrument that is!
@SteVladherman I know, haha. I just liked it.
Es un clavecin bellísimo.
Que buena estética todo!
¡Qué sonido tan amplio! A ratos pareciera imitar al órgano.

Wow that is an amazing instrument, I have never seen one before, and I am a harpsichordist. So...are there two couplers on here or what?
Very impressive

@hauptwerkian ok, thank you for the answer
wooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

@Mr98giuliano
Puyana's house (Paris).
@marsvltor2
I agree! The German instruments are very brassy and harsh sounding. I prefer the French and Flemish instruments, which sound very sweet.
It would be interesting to have 3 or 4 hands to plays these kind of instruments. :o)
Agreed
THATS THE HARPSICHORD
is the timing supposed to be unusual? or is it a result of the technical nature of the piece?
I share my last name with him. So cool.
waht is the place of the recording?

maybe it's just the recording, but sounds very muddy to me--not like a harpsichord
@Zeobit Then you wouldn't be able to play it...
Honestly, it's all good. I don't hear any difference from one manual to the other.

Scarlatti is much more imaginative than Bach !
sehr scheise. Wüst.
