I went to medical school there in the early 1980's it was a wonderful experience The people were so sweet and nice. I was so sad to see what happened. I had always wanted to visit Plymouth again. God bless the island and its people.
mudgie paleno Every Saturday we would go to the market to get fresh fruit and food stuffs. They closed early Frequently and everything was closed Sunday and many Bank holidays. The Student pop shop with home baked goodies.
I was there just before Plymouth was lost in the mid 90s very little had changed since this footage was taken. Went back a few years ago and so sad to see it all gone. Still the people have persavered and are rebuilding. Be well Montseratens
I visited in 1991 with my girlfriend, her mom and her aunt. We were there over the new year so I got to see Jump Up day. Her mom came to America when she was little. I've been to a good amount of places but I can honestly say that the coolest nicest just straight up most welcoming people I've ever met were on Montserrat. But also some of the most resilient.
I still have dreams to this day of my childhood growing up in this amazing island in the seventies and my teen years in the eighties when Air Studios Montserrat was in operation and we'd be rubbing shoulders with the likes of McCartney, Clapton, Phil Collins, Sting and so many others.. Great memories.
Visited this beautiful island, the birthplace of my maternal grandparents, once in 2005. The volcano already had chased most of its inhabitants away to the motherland. Luckily I still managed to visit Happy Hill, Salem (St. Peter's Parrish) where my grandmother grew up before she emigrated to Aruba, where my mother was born. I would so much like to find out more about my ancestor's who were born there, my heritage. The Allen's, the Gibbons' .....one day I will return...to the Emerald Isle🍀
Hi my grandparents moved from Montserrat to London before the volcanoe. Sir James Harris Pond & Riley. I know of a few Allens in London on Facebook & many monserrat decendence reside in Hackney in London & Dalston. Many moved to Canada Antigua and Virgin Islands. I plan on taking a trip to Montserrat soon!
As always a jewel in a crown. This is the islanders Crown. Not everyone carried the Owners titles. The Irish married the Islanders. Montserrat history is one of elegance and vibrancy. If only, its residents could recognise the gifts of the Island.
