  • I bought a Wiegand reader to make up an access system whereby people could tap in and out of a nearby space. this is a quick demo of that system

Very interesting and neat project. This is the trade that I'm in - access control systems. Wiegand (pronouced wee-gand) being replaced by OSDP readers. Wiegand has been around since the 1980, the data is easily readable, whereas OSDP data (basically a RS485 device) is encrypted and locked to the door controller once it's online.

Cheers for that info - I haven't heard of OSDP so I'll be sure to look into it. This system is rather basic but I like that the core technology is so accessible. It's probably also more secure than the Chinese generic stuff which has the logic on the **insecure** side. I ended up refining this project, the arduinos turned out not to be needed for my specific application, an entrance to a large community group which had hundreds of members each having a fob or pin code. There's something fun about rolling your own system out of generic parts!

Hi, posting this without the source code is kinda useless - do you have a link to a repo or similar ? Thanks

Hello. You have been able to connect the Wiegand reader to the raspberry pi. You can post a video with the diagram. Thanks in advance
