I’m not sure if someone already mentioned this but if you do a long press on the locate ICON it goes into compass mode. It than orientates in the direction your phone points. Super helpful when on the trail.
We’ve used Trailforks for a long time.... and totally missed most of the features you showed on this video, Clint. Thank you for making this video. As a side note, we’re just north of Bellingham, in Canada. So when you showed the TF of the area, I kinda teared up a bit. Damn, we miss riding with our southern neighbours!
Clint: Great info!!! Love Trailforks and use it exclusively for locating trails for where i am and where i plan to be heading. Would be great if you could also do a similar post for how to use/optimize a garmin watch as well as how to connect a garmin devise to trailforks.
New to Trailforks. This is a very informative and well produced intro to the App. Thanks. I have a Garmin Edge Explore. I am going to try to upload some maps from Trailforks. I have 3 kids in tow now and it is good for me to know what I am getting into on new trails. I have to bail out 3 others now, not just myself.
Thanks for the video, Clint! I didn't know about that ride to trail feature.. learn something new today! I find TF to be very helpful when exploring new areas and I'm surprised at how many ppl don't know about it.
The Garmin 530 has Trailforks integrated... my 2nd season with it and absolutely love it ... also has incident reporting ... of your bike crashes it sends your coordinates to predefined contacts ... great if you ride alone
Hey Clint , you forgot about the record function (for your ride), and the auto-import into Strava. and then after your ride it will let you do a trail report on the trail conditions too. I've been using Trail Forks for 2 yrs to record all my rides (and importing into strava) and I love it> Thanks!
@@MommyKat2004 just open TF on your phone, and there should be a "play" button at the top center of the screen, when you press that, it will give you the option to record a ride. Also, one thing I found that helps too, is before you do that, go to settings (3 lines on the upper left of the screen) and go to settings, then GPS settings, and change the "update GPS on Map" to as short as possible (I have mine set to 1 sec), to get the best route tracking. Hope this helps and good luck!
Thanks, Clint! Very helpful! I always questioned what the bottom meant as per elevation and difficulty. Thanks for explaining! Great video, better that Trailforks Intro Video
Really good explanation. I did not know how to use a lot of those features and in fact I found the application to be confusing sometimes but now that I have seen your video,it will be much better Very important to me is to tap the little icon in the upper right hand corner a couple of times until it shows me north and the direction the top of my phone is facing simultaneously, no matter which way I turn my body or my phone Thanks
What I was hoping for is that you would explain how to actually plan and choose the particular Trails for your ride that day. Linking each Trail into a complete ride and then using that as a GPS guidance during your ride itself on the app, can you do this
I have a question on the colored blocks without the side profile of the trail. I’ve noticed that there is kind of a line and some of the blocks are below the line and some of the blocks are above the line, Why is this? Why are the blocks are of different lengths?
Yeah currently eBikes are not allowed in Pisgah or Dupont, but I know folks who are lobbying for access. I know this is a 2 y/o review, but TF now has a 3D view that can give you a feel of the terrain.
You have to have the Trailforks Garmin connect IQ app which you can get from the Phone app and send it to your Garmin. support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=ebcxyuInIv6b7eyEj5qXD9
Need help. I downloaded the app and saved a few regions but I can't get to that big map screen. When I hit the Map on the top left nothing happens. I had to force close the map and reopen it to get the big map.
This app is not free if u down load the app it will come up with a dark grey almost black screen that’s the free version. I don’t think it’s worth the money for the yearly fee just say’ n
Is it worth getting the pro paid version? The app scores low on iTunes Store. I’ve only getting back into biking agin in 20years. The free version I’m using the last 3 weeks has been good. I’ve found some good trails. Did a red down hill yesterday like my 5th ride since I was 17! Lol I thought red was below black! Haha.
There is a trail in my area that is orange & that's the pro line. I was told red isn't pro line too, but equal to orange. I don't know what white means though. Also in my area the week to week the trails can change. One week it's cool to ride a bike a week later is say hiking only trail then a week later its cool as long as you aren't bombing it down the hill. Edit: what does second access trail mean?
Thanks David. I have used RIDE with GPS when road biking and love the audio directional cues and prompt when off course. Does the Garmin 830 use just visual or audio as well? I think the Garmin is going on my Christmas wish list!
Yes, if you map out a route on your computer you can use turn-by-turn directions. It's not a feature I have utilized yet, but plan to soon using my Garmin.
What do think about Trailforks going to a paid model? I have no problem paying for good data and information and will probably pay for it but the fact that all the trails and descriptions were user generated while “free” makes me feel taken advantage of. Built by users and then made to pay for it. Of course this is the model for so many startups and tech companies, like Strava. I think this is a bit different however as the mapping data and descriptions require more energy and care than making a segment to play a game... Curious on your take.
I would pay for it. I don’t have a lot of information yet on the paid model. Right now I know there is a free version and a pro version. I will do some more research soon on it.
@@ClintGibbs I paid for it and it works great in airplane mode which saves the battery. I like the trail forks app but mostly paid for the premium so that I had full access to gaia. And the Trailforks maps are on gaia.
Yes, assuming you've downloaded the state that you're riding in, which you have to do before even looking at the trail system. It even picks up your GPS location with no signal.
JogBird agree. Be been trying to figure out how you’d use this for anything except planning. I mean, are you going to stop and pull out your phone at every intersection on a trail? I also worry about GPS / cell reception. I’ve ridden (and gotten lost) in DuPont and things got scary quick for an out-of-towner without any cell reception.
I struggle with trying to figure out how to get back to the car. Finding trails is easy. Then I'm like okay I rode a 10 mile trail...how do I get back...there ar no roads...and it's a one way trail. ugh. I guess I need to learn how to build a route??
Looks like it hides almost everything behind the paid version. So not good for someone who dose not know if they are going to take full advantage of it and or if be something they keep with.
Tried it a few weeks ago. I found the terminology and the layout unnecessarily confusing. The final straw was when it refused to accept a route I'd spent time mapping. Life's too short to waste.
I could not figure out Trail Forks and was about to delete it. Then, I decided to see what videos there were. Yours was the best.

Thank you for making this video. It was very informative. I know my Garmin 830 pulls info from Trailforks which is really nice.

Nice review, I like the recording feature which also syncs with Strava
Nice review Clint will give it a try 👍
Nice overview Clint thanks!
To the point and thoughtful. Thank you!
I'm also amazed at the number of riders who don't know of Trailforks 🤔
This is excellent, thanks for posting.
Brilliant explanation. Thanks for sharing!
Thats cool! Ill have to check out my local area.
Great video! Explained very well.
Awesome video mate
Thanks. Learned a few things today.
Very informative!
Do you need trail forks pro for all these features? I'm trying to figure out if that's worth it these days.
What I was hoping for is that you would explain how to actually plan and choose the particular Trails for your ride that day. Linking each Trail into a complete ride and then using that as a GPS guidance during your ride itself on the app, can you do this

How do you use it to navigate a route. I need a satnav type app to navigate with, can it do this.
I’m always looking for a way to add a marker on the parking lot where I start my ride ( so I can find my way back!😁)

I like all trails app Mr. Gibbs
Great video 👌
Why does my trail forks now draw a straight line to points when recording?
It use to follow my path directly.
The only issue I have found is that it's sometimes not up to date to trails that have been added or changed/modified.

Great informative video. I'm planning a georgia trip, will definitely use it. Thx.
Is there a way to have the map move around and your icon on the map always face forward like a car GPS?
Yes you can, at least on the iOS version. Tap the compass icon in the top right until it shows a green background with a white arrow.
Been tagging your bike trails

No they took all the community's data and now selling it back to them and are set to raise prices in June to $60

Are you able to download the trails to app in iPhone when you are offline? Is there a tutorial?
Yes. You you download each state as you look at the trails there.
Well too expensive now as they reduce the free content. It was great now greed has ruined it I would pay for it at a reasonable price!
You da man. Thx.
