I strongly suggest one of the first things you do after getting this bike is to align/adjust the mechanical disc brakes. It's usually very simple to do (quite a few vids on youtube) and takes just 30 minutes or so in most cases. But EVERY ebike I've pulled together has had the disc brake pads dragging against both the front and rear the disc to some degree. This can cause a LOT of friction and wastes battery and human energy. Out of the box, most came aligned to where they cut about 5mph off the top speed. You could hear them as the wheel rotated. Alignment using a business card and an allen wrench was all it took to eliminate all resistance. However, some bikes just out of the box can require a more substantial fix which is a bit trickier to get right and requires some disassembly.
@@rroberts2023 In this case, it's not a matter of component quality. As far as I know, all mechanical disc brakes have an adjustment that must be performed and maintained. My examples are cases of that adjustment having either not been performed, performed badly, or having lost adjustment in shipping before it got to the customer (me). I've never bought a bike with disc brakes that I didn't have to adjust before first riding the bike. The most common problem was that while the wheels were spinning the brake pads would scrape against the discs even when the brakes were not applied. And...a simple adjustment to provide proper spacing between each pad and disc pairing fixes the problem. Disc brake adjustment videos are readily found on UA-cam.
It's a great bike. Had mine nearly five months now. Finish and mechanicals still as new, having done estimated 750 miles. Remember though it has a twist n go mode so it's technically "illegal" in UK on public roads....if that sort of thing bothers you!😉. It's pretty capable on off-road tracks too. I paid £360 for mine, it came from Poland. Love it.
@Paul Fairbairn hi Paul I got it from Gearbest and delivery was only 4-5 days from Poland. I reckon they were trying to shift a lot of them as it's got the "illegal in UK " twist 'n go grip, hence the great price Also, it was before Christmas. I've just checked the website and its showing current price as £587! ☹...also showing as "discontinued" ...downer! I'd recommend keeping an eye on the Chinese sites. They often have great prices AND European warehouses, so duty and VAT isn't an issue. Good luck finding a bike, sorry I couldn't be more helpful
Just got mine today. Can you confirm that first 'gear' does nothing? As when I put mine in 1st it's the same as it being totally switched off. 2nd 'gear' and it's 40% less than full throttle and 3rd 'gear' is about 20% less than full throttle.
Hi! Can check something for me? What is the height of the bike when folded when the saddle is completely removed? I would like to be able to pack the bike in the baggage compartment of the plane I fly (Piper 28-181) and the door is 52x56 cm. It looks like it will be tight but might squeeze in. At the point of the highest spot there is some space from below so there is a chance it goes in. Appreciate your help!
3 questions you never covered. 1) Where can I buy parts for it like brakes and tyres? Are they generic? 2) Who makes th ebatteries? 3) Is there a worthwhile warranty or is it buyer beware?
I have Fiido D2 and D2s.. D2 is better as you are in a top gear always anyway. Less maintenance and the most important D2 model can be unlocked to 30km/h. :) I have some videos on both models on my channel. :)
Currently hesitating between D2 and D2S. Even if pedaling a lot to save battery, would you say the derailleur isn't very useful? Note my current bike is non-electric, and already, I'm mostly using high gears…
@@kat_katapult There is only one case gears are useful, if you plan any riding with it as on a regular bike with no electric assist.. else even the lowest assist setting is +10km/h and you will be always riding on the top gear with an electric assist.
@@MrTechcat I'm doing Uber Eats riding, and during hours (and hours) of waiting, I just ride slowly, wandering around, doing personal shopping, etc. For that riding, I don't want to use the battery, and reserve it for the actual deliveries ;) I searched about the transmission, apparently it's a shimano tourney 14-28 cassette and a 52 chainwheel. An 11 sprocket should help, but it seems there isn't much choice of replacement parts in 6-speed, and for the chainwheel, 52 is already huge. A solution could be to replace the whole rear transmission with an at least 8-speed transmission, with a much larger choice of components, to find cassettes with 11 sprockets. Another issue is the controller, apparently the D2 can be speed unlocked, whereas the D2S can't be… I also read the D2S controller had more speed modes… I also have to look if the single-speed of the D2 can be replaced with a rear derailleur.

Big wheels are no safer than small wheels I have had motor bikes scooters full size cycles and a 20inche folding bike been biking for over 50 years and never felt unsafe I had a Suzuki scooter it only had 12 in wheels also a Chinese scooter never had a problem. Just order a fiido d2s.

Hi! Thankyou - potentially I will rent it out in the future no immediate plans and yes I beleive the battery can be taken out with the help of a screw driver!
Strange, becouse mine stock Fiido D2 going 30km/h top speed on full electric mode (my weight 86 kg) so, it fast enough. Till now rided 2000 km, epic electric bycicle. Puted 10ah extra batery , range - 50km on fullelectric mode.
Greetings! Thanks for the info! May I ask, do you know if geekbuying spread the cost/ installments? As in, after adding to card, during payment do you get an option? I am buying it from UK. Thanks!
The D2S is UK fully road legal. It is pedal assisted that is why it's legal and a E-Scooter is not. Saying that though ive never been stopped on my E-Scooter but you dont have to worry with the D2S.
.....I use the whole range in winter, just because the batteries need to be active !!!! Hi Ben, I think I met you, when you just had your 1st scooter. I was doing it by then already a few years......
Hi mate, i know im commenting way later than this video came out but how did you find buying from geekbuying? just wanted to know if its trustworthy or not?
Like the video, keep them coming! With regards to the bike I don't like the fact that you can't remove the battery for charging. This makes it inconvenient for commutes to work where you don't always have access to a plug where you park.
True! There are many reasons tbh, such as larger wheels and generally better braking and water resistance- but we regard to cold, the physicality of riding a bike gets the muscles going! 💪🏻Where as standing still on a scooter and just taking the elements I find I freeze my B***s off much more than on the bike. Thus why I prefer ebikes in winter. I feel more confident in those conditions.
I bought this Fiido D2s because of your recommendation. Two thumbs up for me. The ebike is great, the lowest speed mode is what am using tho its too fast for me. 😂 so am not using the 2nd and the last speed mode. 😂 I Am also on the heavy side... but this ebike can carry my weight effortless even on climbing hills. I love the suspension and the cushioned seat, i never felt uncomfortable. Thank you. You really know how to make a review. You're really great of what you're doing.
i'm on my second D2. first a D2 now a D2s, gears are a necessity. Get new brakes before they wear out. Sluggish in sub zero but then you need the heat from pedling anyways. Further the battery will go limp after 6 moths of daily commute. cost $150. Average of $25 /month is an acceptable cost but i rater have a bigger battery pack for range. I remove the folding connector on both sides rendering so i can bring the batter inside for charging. Just make sure to connect it back in the right way. ground to ground

Merry Christmas and Happy 2020 Ben! Any PEV is a good PEV :) I had electric bikes that were 500watts and above but I still prefer my scooters for commuting. I find when it is really raining I don't want to be on the scooter o bicycle. I also sold my electric bicycles years ago but ride one of my friends electric mountain bikes with the big mid-motors and those are super fun and definitely get up to speed. Anything to get you out of your car from time to time and engaging with your environment more is a good thing. I am not a big fan of the Boosted Rev but the water-proofing on that thing and the ride characteristics in the rain are very good. The wide, pneumatic tires and multiple braking mechanisms really help it not slip and slide like most scooters.
I live in the netherlands so I don't feel like its slower due to we having straight roads all the time. So I can keep a steady 25km/h. With peddling I can reach 28km/h but then I am really trying.
Can you really wheel by hand using the saddle as a handle Ben. I tried it with my D2 and the wheels do not stay parallel to enable it to happen. The manufacturers said it could not be wheeled by hand as well. It would be great if one could so then I could wheel it round the big stores and not have to spend time putting the locks and cables on it if I am only going to be a few minutes.
FIIDO E-BIKE D2S. Excellent very functional bike. Beautiful product with speeds and very easy to fold. Delivered in 8 days. The seller is very serious. I recommend it!

I read that it doesn't work on this one specifically because it has a different circuit board. Have you tried it yourself? Some other reviewer said it doesn't work on this one.
I've been very curious to see if you ever do a follow up on your electric unicycle experience. Your video on that really opened my eyes to looking at it as good option and I ended up getting an EUC instead of a scooter. I still love scooters and ebikes and all. Keep up the great work.

@@BenFox01 it’s not the using it that makes it illegal. You can get fined and have the bike confiscated for even having a working throttle on there. And if you get into an accident you’re not insured so that could go into the thousands. But thanks for your quick reply.
I have just bought one of these bikes but the brakes are binding on the disc very slightly but it's annoying i'm not sure how to adjust brakes, has anyone else with this bike had these problems ? Cheers : )
Illegal though as it has a full electric mode. If you want a full electric mode then you should get an older folder, like a Birdy or Mezzo, and put a kit on it, then there is a loophole in the law that lets you just use a throttle.

Hi, great video, but how long is your commute? cheers
Hey Ben. Great video. Thx for the useful points. Any chances of you renting that Fiido on Fat llama? and one question, the battery can be taken out but it takes some effort, is that it? Best and ride safe
Hi! Thankyou - potentially I will rent it out in the future no immediate plans and yes I beleive the battery can be taken out with the help of a screw driver!
@@BenFox01 Hey Bern, thx a lot for this. Just another question, have you ever compared it with a Decathlon Tilt 500?
Nice to find a "Fast & Funny" vlogger who is not wasting our time or boring us to death... 😄 Cool review, thanks!
Legend 💪
Strange, becouse mine stock Fiido D2 going 30km/h top speed on full electric mode (my weight 86 kg) so, it fast enough. Till now rided 2000 km, epic electric bycicle. Puted 10ah extra batery , range - 50km on fullelectric mode.
I think they put a speed limit on for the UK. You should be able to enable it by braking and pressing the start button for 5sec.
Hey Ben! I just saw the video and I am wondering which one is better: Xiaomi Qicycle vs Fiido D2s? Your opinion would be very interesting!
Hey! I was meant to review the Xiaomi before lockdown! :( Sorry! When I get back to London I will get on it!
Ben Fox thank you!looking forward to it!
How did you find riding about on a bike vs a scooter?
Greetings! Thanks for the info! May I ask, do you know if geekbuying spread the cost/ installments? As in, after adding to card, during payment do you get an option? I am buying it from UK. Thanks!
I heard the fiido D2 not D2S that you was riding can be hacked to go 30 kph do you know the differences between the 2 bikes ?
I am looking for this comparison too...
Is this bike legal in the UK? I have read that a motor is supposed to cut off after 6km/h to be legal here and then only pedal-assist you from there?
The D2S is UK fully road legal. It is pedal assisted that is why it's legal and a E-Scooter is not. Saying that though ive never been stopped on my E-Scooter but you dont have to worry with the D2S.
.....I use the whole range in winter, just because the batteries need to be active !!!! Hi Ben, I think I met you, when you just had your 1st scooter. I was doing it by then already a few years......
Hey - Where did we meet? 👀
....in Walthamstow , I am always traveling with a budgie..... Was it you ??? I've got the Carbon scooter 7kg only !
Hi mate, i know im commenting way later than this video came out but how did you find buying from geekbuying? just wanted to know if its trustworthy or not?
Geekbuying is very reliable thats where everyone gets it from thats where I'm getting it from
Like the video, keep them coming! With regards to the bike I don't like the fact that you can't remove the battery for charging. This makes it inconvenient for commutes to work where you don't always have access to a plug where you park.
Check out the himo c20
I hear you - I believe you can with a screwdriver! Obviously thats not ideal... Foldable and removable battery are my must have with ebikes
For those interested, there's a removable mod somewhere on youtube... Takes a bit of work though
Hey Ben, why do you think an e-bike better for the winter? Curious about your perspective. Cold is cold, your still exposed.
Have you tried using it while raining?
Pic Me Upph yes! Absolutely fine in my experience
I bought this Fiido D2s because of your recommendation. Two thumbs up for me. The ebike is great, the lowest speed mode is what am using tho its too fast for me. 😂 so am not using the 2nd and the last speed mode. 😂 I
Am also on the heavy side... but this ebike can carry my weight effortless even on climbing hills. I love the suspension and the cushioned seat, i never felt uncomfortable. Thank you. You really know how to make a review. You're really great of what you're doing.
Aw that’s so kind! And just what I need atm! Please drop me a follow on insta! @benfox01
i'm on my second D2. first a D2 now a D2s, gears are a necessity.
@@tigertalar can battery not slide in/out when folded more easily without disconnecting parts?
Nvm just got to that part in the vid
Does this actually go without using the pedals to all or do you just get assistance whilst pedalling?
Yes it does Kim! It has a throttle :) Check link in bio!
Thankyou !
I am sorry the new micro explorer looks to be the grail for commuter an updated etow 2020 that would be great to review this e scooter. An I would like to find out why micro is not selling it on Us territory
Intro had me sold as soon as I seen it and subbed straight away. Hilarious!
haha Thanku!
Hey Ben.
Where did you get your helmet and face mask please? 😀 thank you in advance
Hey man- check the links in one of my newer videos :)
@@BenFox01 awesome I am on it.
Thanks pal you are a star
Fantastic review by the way
I was after the M1 Fiido which I have tested and think it is awesome but cannot get one in the UK at moment 😖 so picked the D2S up today.
It’s practical and good for me for now 👍
Once again thank you
Ladies and gentleman , to whoever has got this bike. Would you suggested to somebody 1.89 cm tall ?
I feel like that I could be uncomfortable in the shape?
Please advice , I really would like to buy a bike and I’ve seen too many models!
Thanks in advance!
I appreciated
Is this waterproof?
Is there a speed unlock available?
Benötigt dieses Faltrad eine Lizenz? oder Führerschein
Hi Ben's can I ask a question is this water froof? Thanks for ur response
Oh! I’m not sure actually! It’s certainly very resistant! Check the forums ;)
Best wishes Sir! Thanks for what you are doing to promote electric vehicles 👍🏻 I hope all electric scooters will be soon fully waterproof 🤞🏻
Thanku Sir!
Yes deffo need more hands of time with the Boosted! ( I know I keep saying that...) But anything that gets you out of a car is a good PEV like you say
I live in the netherlands so I don't feel like its slower due to we having straight roads all the time. So I can keep a steady 25km/h. With peddling I can reach 28km/h but then I am really trying.
yaa. so nice!
Yes I probably could get faster except the camera was bouncing around!!
Possible to unlock speed?
Love the review. I am buying it!!
You can! only in 1 direction
@@BenFox01 Thanks Ben. I will give it a go!
FIIDO E-BIKE D2S. Excellent very functional bike. Beautiful product with speeds and very easy to fold. Delivered in 8 days. The seller is very serious. I recommend it!
I want to attach a carrier on wheels to this bike to transport things to and from my storage room. Can anyone recommend good carriers? Also, what's the difference between F1/F2/F3 models? Thank you.
Can you review the Raine One when it's available? I know it's not out yet but I want to know your opinion about it as it will be my first e-scooter.
Looks cool! Who knows! Drop em a tweet! 🐦
Taken your advice as I did with your reviews previously , ordered one today. I think the fact they are legal is the biggest selling point.
from where are you ordering?
Ján Ďurčák direct from Fiido on the website
Hi Ben could you tell me the seat height at its lowest great review by the way
you can turn up the speed look for it on youtube , simple to do
I read that it doesn't work on this one specifically because it has a different circuit board.
Oh good to hear!! Glad ur enjoying ur EUC too! Honestly Im a scooter guy - but Im sure there will be more EUC action here in the future!
@@BenFox01 You see, there is demand from your audience for more EUC videos ;)
If someone made an easier to learn and use electric unicycle, you'd give it a shot then?
How much of an incline can this go up? Thanks.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Ben!
All the best to you too Hamish! 💫
Great video, for me I prefer Lectric XP up to 40km/h.
Can’t get in ik tho
Uk
Can you unlock the speed this bike?
Heard that its only accessible on the D2
Unfortunately not :( at least Not that I’m aware- if u find a way please share!!
Check out the himo c20.. Removable battery and better display unit. No decent UK reviews for it that I can find. Could be a fun one for you?
Its on its way!
@@BenFox01 lucky guy, am so tempted by it but as I say I'll wait for a proper review first! Keep up the good work sir
Hi! Have you been able to unlock this to 30km? I know you can with the D2 but unsure if you can with D2S. Thanks!
Did you find out?
@@bikelifesverige4758 Turn it off hold the back brake in as far as u can
Press the button that makes the pedal assist faster, and let go of the brake.
Turn the peddle assist down.
Then u should go up to at least 30 to 35
What about the ADO A16 folding ebike?
Would you recommend for someone that is totally inexperience biker?
Yes definitely 👍
what about body size 1,85 m 90 kg?
Nice vid ben! Please could you review the Xiomi Himo C20 eBike?
funny you say that.. 😏
Is d4s faster than the d2s?
Nice 1 mate .thanks 4 the video 😊
Cant tell if it worth it in the uk considering it's always windy & raining
Thank you very much! I’m not a slow cyclist
What is the size ( diameter) of the disc brake ?
Worked very well.
Do we need a license for this in Netherlands?
They don't sell replacement batteries for these, so what are you supposed to do when it dies?
Apparently, you can replace with some standard 36v batteries (size about 30 x 7 x 4 cm, available in 7.8Ah and 10Ah), adding some foam pads so it holds firmly.
How tall are you? I want to know of it will fit a 6" tall guy.
It will
Happy New Year Ben hehe! Okay I have been scouting around for more E-scooters for you to review on, so here's the 1st 2020 E-scooter for you to test ride on (announced at CES 2020): www.theverge.com/2020/1/3/21047576/segway-ninebot-escooter-air-t15-t60-ces-2020
- the new Ninebot Kickscooter T15 (2020) which is a kickscotoer that doesn't have a thumb throttle but you enable it to accelerate by kicking it up to 5km/hr and its top speed is up to 20km/hr, plus Cruise control enabled too? New LCD/dashboard too!
- Ninebot T60: already mentioned it last year but yeah its a tri-wheel E-scooter of the future
Plus, there seems to be a newly revised Ninebot Max e-scooter (2020 model) where you can remove the batteries? Ninebot will unveil it later this year so yeah hehe! 😁🛴🎉👍
Thats for the updates buddy! Always appreciated!!
@@BenFox01 No probs Ben! 😁🛴
Useful information.
Looks slick, won't ship to Canada though..tough to get a good compact e-bike here.
$499 is a great price for a ebike. Most are $800 and up so this seems like a steal. Seems solid and gives you a great sense of riding a regular bike. Happy New Year Ben 👍💪
Happy Belated New Year Daniel!
@@BenFox01 they don’t ship to the uk that’s sad
I recently bought a Fiido D2S and when I turn the motor on it shows green colour lights. I saw all the review videos and they showed orange colour lights.
Could someone tell me is that?
Thanks
If you have green lights and they are vertical it is the newer version
Can you disable moped mode?
(To make it legal in the netherlands)
Not that I'm aware of! But you don't need to use it
@@BenFox01 it’s not the using it that makes it illegal.
Cheers : )
changed the brakes after 4 miles , and removed the mudguards
Illegal though as it has a full electric mode. If you want a full electric mode then you should get an older folder, like a Birdy or Mezzo, and put a kit on it, then there is a loophole in the law that lets you just use a throttle.
Sir, may I please know how many km do you get on throttle only riding?
20km or 8mph
@@omark4188 20km sounds about right!
What's your height sir?
I just bought this Ebike and you ride past my Gym at 6.45! Literal guilt trip!
can it fit rear carrier?

Breaking news: Ninebot might announce a revised Ninebot Max later this month/year & they also unveiled a new e-scooter called the Ninebot Air T15 via CES 2020 hehe! Keep an eye on Segway-Ninebot news Ben! 😉🛴👍
Just got my D2 arrive today and the brakes are really squeaky that it feels a bit dangerous.
Has anyone had the same issue?
Mine too. Hoping for some advice from these pages on how to sort it.
Karen Kinsey i just took mine to a bike mechanic who loosened the front brake and adjusted the back one. The back still squeaks a little and the front doesn’t brake as hard anymore but no long squeaks at all. Still waiting on a response from geekbuying to see what they can do though.
@@tonyh241 thanks Tony I'm also waiting on a reply from them (I opened a ticket!)
