I appreciate the powerful symbolism of burning crosses in the videos exploration of racism and patriarchal structures. It's a pity that Madonna didn't choose to incorporate imagery of burning crucifixes, which could have reignited important discussions. Such imagery would have highlighted Madonna's pioneering role in addressing these issues and her contributions to the African American community. It seems a bit trivial to resort to depicting oiled-up Jesus's in loin cloths for shock value. If she had stayed true to her original, provocative style, it would have been a compelling topic of conversation. Madonna broached these themes about 35 years ago, which was incredibly forward-thinking. Acknowledging her groundbreaking work in this way would have been far more respectful and impactful than the current portrayal of the "Jesus Merry-Go-Round" ffs
This was awful, I'm a big Madonna fan and the words over the performance ruined everything. I've probably seen this "Like a Prayer" version 100s of times now. The sound sounded great so actually paring it with the performance would of been great. I kept fast forwarding hoping words would disappear but no. I watched The RIO concert 4 times when it was available on "UA-cam" before Maverick claimed copyright and it was removed.
Sis, religion has been hurting, offending and touturing not only people's feelings, but their minds and bodies and souls for ages. Madonna did actually provide some solace for those outcast and rejected individuals who once thought they should be dead by their merely existence. So STFU for a second and go preach somewhere else.
