Noticed something on a subsequent watch. Cole is facing a window through which cool blue/green light shines. He is singing to an open future. Megan is facing the back wall of a warmly lit room but heavy in shadows. Shadows are not a lack of light but the result of light that is blocked. I submit that Cole is moving into the future while Megan represents the past that though warm, comfortable in some ways (the walls are like the wood grain panels I grew up with in the 70s so that seems nostalgic to me), it is still the darkness of light denied. This also helps to explain that look Megan shoots over her shoulder. Cole is moving ahead, leaving the fallen star behind him, ascending to the light beyond the window of the moment to embrace a newer future. Needless to say the memory of the moment and the past would chide the effort and begrudge the situation. This also makes the climax appropriate with all the cuts between darkness and the orange glow. It’s the escape of the past as the falling star burns up and burns out. Or… I’m reading too much into it. 😂
