    Cubs fan here. Cam Smith may not be one of our top 3 prospects right now, but he easily could have been if we still had him 1 year from now.
    He's following an identical path to Matt Shaw. Shaw was also our first round pick the year before, and he also climbed to AA within that same year. At that time he was around our 6th highest prospect just like Cam Smith was now. The following year he played AAA and became our top prospect, around 20th in the entire league.
    Overall, I love that both fan bases are loving this trade for the most part. I know that I'm ecstatic.

      @@dougfresh397 For me it's too much. Only because I dream on Cam Smith. However I am hyped to have Tucker and 2025 is going to actually be fun now. So I'll live. You got a potential stud so I think this was a great trade for you. Paredes will hit really well in MM too, so he'll fill 3B for you for awhile.

      Did not like issac at all in Chicago, wesneski has had good moments but far more meltdowns than good moments but he has some stuff that’s great so who knows. Cam smith is the only thing about this that stings at all as a cubs fan

    14:01 feel like this is an important point to clarify - Cam Smith is 73rd overall prospect, but he was not the Cubs 2nd ranked prospect - he was their 7th ranked prospect (that's how good their system was and still is). Now whether he would have risen to their 2nd best or even best prospect at some point going forward is a different and subjective story because he did have one of the biggest ceilings in their system and came out scorching hot right away last year after being drafted. As for the trade as a whole - fans on both sides should stop worrying about which side came away better or did the "fleecing" - this was a fair trade that makes sense for both sides at this point in time. BOTH franchises got better in different ways based on where they currently sit in their MLB roster compositions, payroll budgets, and prospect cycles.

    Its too early to see how this works out for the Astros but so far Dana Brown hasn't given me reason for concern.Losing Kyle Tucker does hurt but you need to get something to replenishg the farm system and address 3rd and 1st. Cam Smith gives you a tremendous trad piece if he doesn't end up being the future 3rd baseman. This trade has a good chance of being a big win for the Astros.

    Boy I did not want to lose Cam Smith. He was easily our 2nd best prospect, right behind Matt Shaw. Watch how fast he jumps into the top 20 in all of baseball next year. Cam Smith is the PRIZE here. I know Paredes fills a hole and will hit well in your ballpark. But make no doubt, Smith is THE prize of this trade for the Astros.

    • @akitas8165
      @akitas8165 14 годин тому +2

      Please explain how he is so highly regarded. His numbers don't support it and he has only played a handful of games in AA. He is not projected to reach the Majors before 2027 if he even makes it at all. Remember most prospects never make it.

    • @Teremei
      @Teremei 13 годин тому +1

      @@akitas8165 I think 2026 is realistic. He raked in A+ and hit 5 homers in 5 days in AA in his short time. Yes we know most prospects don't make it. Though the higher the prospect the more likely they are to make an impact. Guy was drafted middle of the 1st round last year and is already ranked MLB top 77. He's a quick riser just like Matt Shaw was the year before him. Matt shaw was drafted only 1 year earlier and he's already likely going to be our starting 2B or 3B in 2025. Just 2 years after his draft. That's why I think 2026 is realistic for Cam.

    I’d personally like to see a trade for Luis Robert now that Tucker is in Chicago. Three years of affordable team control for an elite defensive center fielder who has already won a gold glove, a silver slugger, was the rookie of the year runner up and an all star in the rather short amount of time he’s played. He led the league in batting average in 2021, was second in the league in HRs with 38 just one year ago, and stole 23 of 26 bags in 100 games last season. He would be a great fit in that ballpark stacked with Yordan in the order.

    • @DrWestlake
      @DrWestlake 6 годин тому

      The Mariners can only hope that the Astros trade the rest of their trash farm system to get Luis Robert... I'm 95% sure that the Tucker trade just handed Seattle the division, but pissing away $20M on Robert to be injured like Alvarez would secure it...

  • @grandwonder5858

    Whether you like Tucker or not the decision to trade him is a great one simply because we’re sick and tired of watching these guys walk once their contract is up! We might as well get something in return before they walk! Should have done that before Springer walked, Correa walked, Cole walked, and Bregman walks, if he ends up walking anyway! Just imagine the players and prospects we would have had if we traded those guys a year before their contracts were up! We would have been loaded with talents the last several years!

      I think you’re right. I think that having him go to arbitration pissed him off and since then he was not interested in staying. I also think that the last two years in the playoffs cost the Astros at least winning the 2023 WS. He gets some hits and we beat Texas… and sweep Arizona….

  • @ericmausbach1808

    I don't think the offer to Bregman was crap. He had the lowest OPS of his career...especially with the OBP dropping 50 points in a contract year. I think those are some concerning numbers for a player that wanted Machado money. He'd be averaging 26 million a year until his age 37 season. I think it's going to be instant buyers remorse for whoever signs him. Obviously, I'd prefer to keep him, but not to the point where he's hurting the Astros ability to get better. His 2018 and 2019 seasons were his best, and that was a long time ago. At the same time, I can't blame him for getting what he can, while he can. It's been fun while it lasted.

    Every team makes signings that they regret. Montero and Abreu signings aren't the reason they didn't get a deal done for Tucker. Both those guys come off the books after this next season, along with Pressly. Tucker was probably going to demand, at least 450 over 10 years. The other factor, is that he may not want to play for Houston. We drafted him...he didn't choose to come here. The only problem I have with this, is that we didn't do this last year, and get a bigger haul. If players aren't willing to do an extension, we should trade them with 2 years left. Anyways, no crying over spilt milk...things are changing, and it's time to look to the future...looking forward to Cam Smith being the next Astros star.

    As a Mariners fan, you guys are going to be trash this year... You guys seem to think the Mariners aren't very good, but if you guys didn't manipulate the amateur draft window of a few years around the time when you didn't sign Aiken and took two top 5 picks during one of the best drafts in the past 20 years, the Astros would've never won a World Series... Correa, gone. Tucker, gone. Bregman, gone. Springer, gone. Altuve, old. Alvarez, bad knees. Take away can't miss lottery picks and Houston is okay more than good at prospect development.
    How does a team watch four elite players walk, and end up with a naked farm system? Good luck trying to build a team worth a crap. Even in a season where the Mariners stop hitting for two months, you guys barely got past Seattle. A smart team would've overpaid for Tucker and let Altuve walk in his late-30s. Taking away Tucker and Bregman, you'll be lucky to win 80 games, and Paredes is trash, once teams stop pitching him in, his power will evaporate and you'll have nothing more than a role player. Only Cam Smith is good, and the 2025 draft is bad. End of a dynasty.

    Long time Cubs fan here. I don't know what Cubs fans you were talking to, but I can tell you right now, the Astros traded an All-Star player for a load of dead weight. Houston got fleeced. Even if Kyle Tucker stays with the Cubs for only one year, the deal was still worth it. Cam Smith is an unknown who's not even close to being in the majors, Paredes' bat looked lazy and slow in Chicago and he never seemed to fit in, and every time Wesneski came into a game he was giving up home runs. I can only imagine how many he's going to give up in that phone booth in Houston. Long story short, the Cubs gave up a load of nothing.
