Hi! Your perspective of the differences between Demi's and Mori's takes on the song for me is spot on. Demi's version seems to project more angst while Mori's "softer" version depicts more of despair. Both however are valid in the sense that different people would approach conveying the message of heartbreak in their own unique ways. Morissette has recently dropped a new recorded single just this past November 27th. It may just be a lyric video (actual music video hopefully to follow) but it sounds brilliant and has quite a different feel from most of her other performances. I was there when she dropped it, you need to watch her own reaction to her own song, it's a real 💓 breaker, you can bet ya life a live performance of this will be magnificent, she's just a vocal beast this girl, like no other I have ever heard.
It's true what you said about both interpretations being valid because no two people are alike in how they express heartbreak. They both conveyed with full emotion -- however, I'd like to think that my expression would be like Mori, in that I can feel without equivocating and yet contain some sense of power within.
Thats pretty amazing how her voice almost sounds like a whistle... like in that high note you mentioned you can really hear it. I cant imagine that is easy to sustain. I feel like one wrong crack and and it can break. But you are right, awesome performance. I got chills during the 2nd half. Never heard her before so this was a treat. Hope you are better from your throat thing!

The other big difference between the two versions is that Morissette sings it with a soft edge, even in the hardest belts. 35 years of club gigs left me with a serious intolerance of harshness (and an annoying ring 24 x 7). The Levato version is a little grating to me because of the harshness. The first time I heard her I fell in love because everything is so emotional no matter if it's low, high, or ridiculously high. It also has that rounded tone that makes it pleasant to hear pretty much all the time.

Just a question... Why have U only reacted 2 two of her covers? She is 1 of the hardest working singers worldwide. She put out content after content during this pandemic without a break - almost a song a week! She also just released an original song she co-wrote last week.
