    GURL…LADY…MA’AM!!!!! I’m sooo glad you, a real plant influencer, said something! I noticed the change last year! I AM SO DISGUSTED with the plastic pots! I covet my CF ceramic pots, especially the wave ones! I hope they bring them back!
    THANK YOU FOR ADDRESSING THIS ATROCITY!😢😂

      Exactly!! I didn't know what kind of response this video was going to get. I know it's not the biggest issue in life, but I really dislike the plastic pots. Now I have to pay $20 for the plant and still buy a nice pot. I'm not happy about it. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one!

      Thank you so much for addressing this issue!! I've bought 12 plants from CF and I love the white ceramic planters. 95% of my plants are in white ceramic. I absolutely hate these new plastic pots!! They seriously look really cheap. Hopefully Costa Farm will bring back the original ceramic planters...their plants are really beautiful and deserves a nice pot

    I thought it was just me! I was in the garden center often and struck up a conversation with a person who worked in that area. She would keep the pots for me when it was time to throw away the plants. I've also purchased pots on Mercari. Like you I like all of my pots to look the same.

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  20 днів тому +1

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  20 днів тому

      That's one way to look at it. However, at the stores here, the plants are outside and when it rains the pots hold water and drown the plants. It makes for a great clearance selection, but I'm sure they would rather sell healthy plants at full price. Thanks for sharing your perspective. It's always good to have more than one opinion. I love the self watering pots. I have a ton of Philodendron which is what I use them for. I think it's a cost saving measure, plastic is cheaper.

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  15 днів тому

      I assume that is the reason as well, but sure miss the ceramic pots. Maybe if I hadn't been spoiled with the ceramic pots initially, I wouldn't mind the new pots as much. On the other had, I would still have a hard time removing the inner pot and with how easy they are to tip. On the other hand, I don't think I would like them anyway. 😊😂 I'm glad they are working for you. Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion.

  • @chleda15
    @chleda15 21 день тому +2

    In Canada we don't get a lot of Costa Farms plants but I was able to snag a couple of the ceramic pot plants a couple of years ago. My only guess is besides being cost effective is to be able to market that it's easier to care for because it's "wick and grow". I don't have any plants that are in self-watering pots and I always repot my plant in my own mixture the same day I bring it home. Even if you like the pot a fear would be what happens if the water leaks out or it cracks because it's just cheap plastic.

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  15 днів тому

      Thanks for sharing. I tend to repot my plants also, so that I don't end up with any surprises later. I need to check out those roots. I do use self watering pots with some plants and am trying to adjust to the new pots. However, the inner pots can't be easily removed and they tip easily. Thanks for watching!

    Home Depot does not put plants on clearance. Instead, they throw out the plants AND THE POTS. Customers, and even employees, are not permitted to save the pots. I've asked many times to buy a discarded pot and was told HD may not sell them or give them away. Many of these CF ceramic pots end up in the trash.

    Hi Peggy, thank you for this fun video! Although I like the original ceramic pots, I can live with the new pots. The ceramic white pots were convenient with the purchase of a pretty plant but I sometimes shop at local nurseries and plant shops that only give you the grower pot so I guess I’m flexible. I have to admit that when I got a ceramic white pot and a plant for $20.00 I felt like I got my money’s worth. The plant may or may not survive but you always had the parting gift of the pot to put another plant in. 🤣. Happy growing! 👌🪴🥰

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  20 днів тому

      My thoughts exactly. If the plant didn't make it, at least I had a nice shiny pot as a parting gift. 😆 I don't mind buying plants in Nursery pots since they normally cost less. I'd then take them home and drop them into my Costa ceramic pot and all was right in my world. Guess I have to accept change and mismatched pots. Thanks for watching and happy growing to you as well!

    Oh, Peggy! I wish you lived close to me. I’ve got a stack of Costa Farms ceramic (and plastic) pots you could have. I personally don’t like to use them because it’s too hard to not over water and kill my plant. As soon as I get home from the store, I take the inside pot out and put it in a little drip saucer. I discard the ceramic/plastic pot in a stack behind my garage. I keep thinking I’ll get brave enough to try to drill a hole in the bottom of the pot, but to date, I’ve not tried. 😊

      @CostaFarms 20 днів тому +2

      Sorry to hear you don't like them. If it's helpful, here's the method I use to water my plants. I add an inch or so of water to the decorative pot, let the potting mix soak it up, and then dump any excess water out of the decorative pot after 15-20 minutes. Then I wait until the plant starts to dry and repeat. As long as you go good stretches in between waterings, it's tough to overwater this way because the potting mix won't absorb too much if it's already wet. ---Justin, Costa Farms Horticulturist

    • @denisej.9936
      @denisej.9936 19 днів тому +2

      @@CostaFarms Justin, don’t get me wrong. I think the ceramic CostaFarms pots are gorgeous, and look great with the plant choices selected for the pots. As a senior gardener, I don’t have the grip strength in my fingers to lift the nursery pot from the ceramic pot. To remove the nursery pot, I have to get a long bladed sharp knife, insert it between the nursery pot and the decorative pot , turn them upside down, and walk the knife around the pot until it falls out. If it’s been overwatered at the store, the pot winds up peeing all over the place. Not a fun experience. That’s why it’s so much simpler to remove the decorative pot as soon as I get home from the store. I hate losing the pretty aesthetic, but I value the health of the plant. Btw, I probably have 50-60 CostaFarms plants. 💚

    This is their version of shrinkflation. As it was, they were upselling with the ceramic pots. Honestly, I cannot see how they will be able to maintain their price point at $20 with any type of exterior cache pot. Trader Joe's is selling heavily marbled PPP (highly stable variegation) in a basic plastic pot for $10 at their Chicago stores. They are selling small alocasia silver dragons for $6. If Trader Joe's is getting this from their growers, the same or competing growers will eventually be providing the same once rare plants to local small supermarket chains, non big-box hardware stores, etc. I've bought several Trending Tropical plants but never had any special attachment to the white ceramic pots. Maybe there will be a market for them on eBay 😂.

    • @CostaFarms
      @CostaFarms 20 днів тому +1

      @@IRONWEED_: The two big stores are very competitive with one another and look for ways to differentiate from one another. In the case of clearance plants, I was in a meeting where one of the buyers for the store was telling us he didn't want racks of dead and dying plants on display "like the other guys have."
      I know a lot of people think it's because one store buys a lot of their plants from growers whereas the other one has the pay-by-scan model, but that's not the case. Most growers would rather sell plants at a discount than not sell them at all if they decline at stores. 🙁

      @@CostaFarms Thanks Justin, I appreciate the reply. Costa Farms raises great plants.
      My $ 0.02 but the big box store that didn't want to see dying plants typically has more of them out on the floor at regular price than the competitor has on clearance racks.

    I purchased a Costa Farms monstera standleyana albo for a friend’s graduation present, and good thing I repotted it into better soil before giving it to her because thanks to those new wick and grow pots, it had some pretty bad root rot. 😒 So yeah, not a fan.

      I have found many on clearance for that reason. The big box stores need to do a bettere job of working with self watering pots. Thanks for watching!

    Yea I hate those pots. They are so hard to left the inner pot to water. Sometimes I just se the clear saucers.

      @PeggysPlants  20 днів тому

      Exactly, I find them very difficult to work with. Maybe it would help losing the ceramic pot if the ones they are using were more user friendly. Then again, maybe not! 😆😂🌿💚

    The pots suck 😢 last years tan and white “bandaid” pots were plastic, but they were still classy looking, and at least they weren’t the crappy/ugly self watering ones

    No disrespect to Costs Farms but that new pot is trash. I agree with you their older pot was decent. This wick n grow foolishness…they could have kept these things. I can’t get the plants out of them fast enough lol

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  20 днів тому

      I'm finding that half of mine don't have wicks. I've already lost an easy to grow plant trying to use this wick system and am not a fan. I've been converting them to use with leca. Hopefully that will work better with these pots.

      Quite possible. I'm just curious and miss my ceramic pots. 😊 I'm old enough for my wants not to hurt, but still curious. I will admit that it makes me pay more attention to other growers who are still offering ceramic pots for the same price.

    I dunno those ceramic pots chp so easily. Those wick and grow pots I cant stand their shape they don't fit so well around other things on my shelf.

    • @PeggysPlants
      @PeggysPlants  20 днів тому

      I didn't have a chipping issue, but am sure you don't have to worry about the current pots chipping. Flipping however, is a whole different issue. The narrow base of the wick pots make them top heavy. It may be that I'm just clumsy, but I keep knocking them over! 😳

    I noticed it too I had saved my first few then one day I bought a plant with the burlap style pattern. It felt different in my hand so I took a closer look and found it was a very thick plastic that had been painted with a glossy white paint. Then recently I saw the new self watering pots and said the same thing why oh why costa farms.

      You're probably right. It's odd though. I imagine that Costa is one of the largest growers. How are they not able to continue with the ceramic pots but many of the smaller growers can? They may be making more profit per plant, but how many sales are they losing to other growers because of the pots. I'm so full of questions...it's just who I am. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
