JuJitsoup thank you! If you are ever in London please feel free to visit my club, the Sobell judo club. Otherwise, I run a weekend summer course every summer in Worthing!
Excelente video demonstration ! I'm 55 years old now ..but this video brought memories to me ... from when I was 7 years old and I received my first white belt and ...my sensei was teaching us how to tight correctly the belt. Thank you for your videos. Oss.
As a kid in judo it was always a myth that some people would have red belts after the black belts 🤣 respect my man! I only went to yellow/orange before i stopped. Now im Training mma/bjj but judo is my first love :D
Exactly the way I have been tying my Obi for 57 years, I have seen many of the top competition players appear to tuck the ends under again now that players can be penalised if the belt comes undone.
The most frustrating thing about martial arts gear is in the sizing especially if you're a big strong guy because they're all made for slender Asian frames. I'm 6ft tall 300lb with a 50" waist and only a couple products fit me but none of them wrap properly except ones I had to tailor down in height. All they do is up size the entire product... they don't make it for bigger stronger people so if I get a gi that fits me I have to tailor it down from the seven-foot-tall cut they deliver to your door because the ridiculous manufacturers just assume the same frame at the same standard dimensions rather than keeping it of average height/length and just making it bigger to accommodate a larger more powerful individual. When I was 350lbs I only had two gis that would fit and they were hard to find and exorbitantly expensive for what they were...Fuji 10 and MACS 12 (these were the largest commercial Gis available but of course they were cut for people who were 10 ft tall so they are comically long!
Normally the hips. The waist is too high and can also tighten uncomfortably around your abdomen. However, ultimately it’s whatever is comfortable for you.
Even before the first Technique, the Student is taught how to tie the belt. This runs in line and not crossed on the back! It takes decades of Training to be allowed to wear this Belt and many Judoka do not achieve this goal! It always makes me a little sad to see that.

The last one is the cleanest, no crossing in the back.
Thank you Grandmaster. 🥋
Wish I could train under this guy. His way of explaining and demo-ing all the techniques is amazingly accurate and clear. Complete respect.

I don't think it's a myth,I'm pretty sure after red/white belt in Japan you can get a red belt
Surprisingly the best explanation in all the videos I have seen so far! I'm sure he is a great coach.
This is the clearest demonstration I’ve seen on UA-cam! Now I finally know how to tie the knot ! Thank you!
You’re welcome!
IT SOUNDS IRONICALLY
When I started there was no UA-cam and barely some priviledged people had internet, my instructor showed me the exact same technique :)
3rd variation is my favourite one. Thank you sir!

Thanks this is by far the easiest one I've watched :D

Best demonstration, thank you!
After watching several belt-tying videos I am still confused about if you tie the belt around the hips or the waist. Can someone help me here?
Normally the hips. The waist is too high and can also tighten uncomfortably around your abdomen. However, ultimately it’s whatever is comfortable for you.
Thank you for your lesson on break falls from Steve in Norwich
