Who would have thought Jamie Joseph is now a highly respected coach. Funny how nowadays Canterbury is Top Dog and Auckland are a mere shadow of their former self
Still brings back memories . I remember the furor. Im a waikato boy and I also remember everyone in Hamilton going apeshit when Duane Monkley wasn't selected that year for the 95 world cup.
I miss the NPC. I've never liked, or accepted, the artificial, meaningless Super Rugby. Even Ranfurly Shield challenges are almost an after-thought today. I went out for dinner last night and the people we were with are as much Rugby followers as I am, but they had forgotten that Otago is the current Shield holder. Gods almighty! There was a time when everyone in the country knew who was the current Shield holder. Now, in this almost year-round professional Rugby world, what was once important has been downgraded to "Oh yeah, *that* Shield". In August, Southland will challenge Otago for the Shield. I think I'll go and watch the game - I never saw a Shield challenge game before.
I miss the old school NPC as well. as a Harbour fan Battle of the bridge derbies were brilliant. You would have bus loads of fans going to Eden Park, or when it was home game for Harbour pre game beers at the Poenamo. There was even workplace banter and a bit of a colour. Nowadays Harbour have been forced into in loveless marriage with Auckland to make The Blues and it just aint the same. I can never bring myself to follow The Blues , they are a blue and white hoops team in disguise, thats why I go for The Crusaders
That's the typical Auckland-bias that was ripe in the 90s. Kronfeld was by far away the best number 7 in NZ (apart from Michael Jones who could only play at certain times), yet, some people rated Mark Carter and Andrew Blowers higher than him.
He was one of Laurie Mains' special Otago boys, just like Aaron Pene, Jamie Joseph and Mike fucking Brewer getting selected at No.8 ahead of Zinzan Brooke.
@@SD78 just like Mains selecting Paul Henderson over best 7 in NZ in 1995 Duane Monkley. Only because Henderson was a South Islander. No fucking way Henderson was better than Monkley, Monkley was up there with Michael Jones and he played on Sundays

Heaps of top rugby players like Northlander Jack Goodhue go to Canterbury uni and that's how Canterbury and Crusaders hoover them up.
awesome upload mate. love this era :)
That ball was never ever out
Colin Hawke was right to award a penalty.
+TheForge10 Maybe, but a penalty try though?
SOnionS
it was maybe in the rules back then ? who knows

Does anyone have the full match loaded onto here? I'm looking for the semi finals and finals full match both 1993 and 1995 guys.
You're right Nisbo. The ball was out and Colin Hawke done us again. Shouldn't of put myself through it again
Rugby not quite pro yet before 1996, Jamie Joseph an All Black working a day job at Speights Brewrey. Those were the days.
Yea but I'd love to watch the full version of the game. Does anyone have it and could offload it onto UA-cam.

Mark.Carter was never Kronfields equal.
Yep
agreed. Kronfeld was more closer to Michael Jones as a player
There was actually a song at the time called "Josh is better than Mark Carter".

Wasn't former New Zealand no 8 Gary Seer an Otago player?
Actually no he played for Southland
whooooops yes he did and he played for Southern in Dunedin not Southland
CELLPHONES!!!!!
Marc Ellis was an AB in 1992 never knew that

SD78 dont forget fucking Paul Henderson getting selected ahead of Duane Monkley in 1995. Henderson , another of Mains southern man selections again.
Hansen picked heaps of nobodys from canterbury so he was hardly alone

@@dan812 Scott Hamilton. That still confuses me to this day.
I was at that game. Great win for Auckland. Otago robbed? maybe, but as an Auck supporter nah
I asked Colin about this. Said he couldn't remember. Poor decision
