This is very insightful. It is important for policy makers to consider all these variables when developing policies. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much for your work, very interesting information. On migration control, I would like to add the example of Israel, United Emirates etc which have very harsh migration procedures and they work quite well. Also we have to look very attentively on the impact of new techonologies, especially phone tracking and face recognition. It will be impossible to hide your stay in a country in the close future. Wealthy countries have to recognise their need for workforce, the actual de facto toleration of irregular migration is a dead end.

I always like learning more about what people mean when they say migration policies work well! Some countries consider their migration strategy to be successful when the immigrant inflows decrease, but others say their policies are working when migrants are well-integrated into the labor market, housing, etc.
What is it that you mean by saying that the approaches of Israel and the UAE work well?

@@MelissaSiegelMigration You are right, these policies are effective from the control point of view. With some minor exceptions, these countries do not permit foreigners integration. Still this is the case with seasonal and temporary workers in the majority of countries. These migration programs are made, to not permit stay and integration for unqualified workforce. Technological changes can have a strong impact on the implementation of such seasonal and temporary migration programs, and the control of irregular stay. Still, this might not be good, I personally am a bit afraid of the changes which I observe in this field,

Interesting discussion, reason why when Ghana placed a ban on migration to the Gulf Region, we ended up with more Ghanaians there

There are many examples where migration policies generated unintended effects!
