Sanjay Dutt one of the few actors who can match the screen presence of Amitabh. Watch "Kaante", "Vaastav" and "Agneepath". He was not the Villian but the Anti Hero of the movies he did in the 90s.
Kaante was great.

Khalnayak = Anti-Hero
Ramya, the actress in the song had a very powerful role in Bahubali as the mother of Bahubali.
The mother in this movie is Rakhee, the estranged wife of Gulzar.
This movie he was anti-hero but there is sympathy for him because the movie was a reflection from his own life. This happened when he had come out of jail. This is one movie you should not miss.
Khalnayak=villain..not antihero... however he did play antihero in this movie
I am no fan of Sanjay Dutt but his acting in the ending scene of Vaastav was brilliant. I felt his emotions in that scene. Never happened to me before.

Both the actors involved in the scene have done an amazing job in that particular scene. I especially loved late Reema Lagoo's performance.
Sanjay Dutt came in as... a dancing hero in his debut film Rocky (not the iconic one starring Stallone, but this was also pretty popular at the time too). Eventually after the loss of his mother a few days prior to his debut film's release, and overcoming drugs, he came back for more dramatic roles. Sadak, Naam, Khal Nayak, and Vastav. All of them really dramatic and in the grey zone. He then did a bunch of comedy films with Govinda, and then got a massive revival with Munna Bhai MBBS. That saved his career, and now you can say that he is pretty stable.

@@YuvrajHaldankar Hathyar of 1988-89 directed by JP Dutta. He and Dharmendra was so brilliant and even one of JP Dutta's best directorial film. That film was made for Sanjay Dutt and has to be one of the top five performance of him. It is hard to find Hathyar in online, but a gem of performance.
Naam is one of his early films and definitely worth a watch too.

Sanjay Dutt evolved tremendously over time. He was like many of those from his times, known mostly for the looks, body and style. After 2000 he went through a transition of becoming more of an actor than a sexy “hero” as it would be called back then.
He's played the hero, anti hero and villain in indian cinema. Probably the only actor to do so.
This film is quite iconic not only it’s considered one of Sanjay Dutt’s finest performances but it also released in the same year/ time where he was arrested for arms smuggling and his character did play have some paraell to what he was facing. Nevertheless it’s an epic movie that you both need to watch when you get a chance

I really liked sanjay Dutt's acting in the movie Saajan...a very sensitive nuananced performance... he was great in Gumrah too
He is one of those very few actors, Who can play Hero and Anti Hero roles with ease. You must watch VAASTAV, that's his career best movie.
Without subtitles you'll get nothing. Churning emotion all i can say.
He was one of those few who cud play both hero and villain those days. Plz watch Naam, Vastav, Saajan, Munna Bhai franchise, Aatish, Mission Kashmir, Kaantey.
The mother was RAKHEE ..popularly known as Mother of Bollywood in 80s and 90s..coz she played mother of almost every hero of Bollywood..

This was a huge hit when it came out. "Khalnayak" is basically "Villian" and the song title is "I'm not a hero, I'm a villian". This movie came out around the same time after Sanjay Dutt was accused of having connections with the underworld.

You must watch Sadak - loosely based on Taxi Driver. Dutt was good but Sadashiv as the villain was incredible a performance on par with Amrish Puri as Mogambo. Great music, great story telling by Mahesh Bhatt.

An iconic movie at that time.. Loved it and still gets me emotionally. His setback in his personal life went parallel with the release and his performance overshadowed everything.. You will like the grey character here. Not sure if it will suit your taste today. But Kaante and Vaasatav would be great along with this.. and then Saajan for just the opposite reasons.. would be a great watch.. along with Kaante you can watch Musafir.. then Munnaibhai series.. All of these movies are his own genre and nobody could have played it better than him.. All are must watch if you want to explore more of Sanjay Dutt.. He was the odd one out of the Bollywood Industry.. Done all kinda roles from being a father in Mission Kashmir (Must Watch also) and Villian to comedy.. Bollywood underutilised him and also his personal life was a hinderance to what would have been otherwise an amazing career at the top.. The bodybuilder guy before Salman hit the screens back then.. Wish you had subtitles.. the song has deep meaning along with other songs in the same movie.. Also watch Gumrah.. it has Sreedevi in it..

No bro. He is a proper Hero and has won awards in the leading role. He has mainly played Action roles in that Mafia types. You have seen Munnbhai MBBS already. Not recommended to watch this film but this film music was chart topping in the 90s when it came.
He has also done quite a few dual hero roles along with Govinda and dabbled in the comedy genre and also Romance. He was successful in each of these genres. Always had a bad boy image though in real. Drugs and all.
Unfortunately they have not seen Munna Bhai series yet.
