Fantastic Charlie! Tarja was the reason that I became a Nightwish fan in the early 2000's. I absolutely loved the contrast of her voice with their style of music - it was really a novelty at that time. In spite of the issues that she had with the band leading up to her leaving in 2005, I have loved her singing in Nightwish and as a solo act as well. As soon as you said she was an alto I was laughing bc I knew the high notes to come 😂 she’s brilliant though. Such a gorgeous voice and amazing range. And she works SO hard for it-even today, more than 20 years into her career, she takes voice lessons to keep growing.
She was always versatile but Nightwish wasn't, early on. They needed to have a recognizable sound. Their first four albums are closely in the same mold. The fifth, the last with Tarja, is a bit more relaxed and open -- they could afford it by then. And the rest is history. The early history only makes me respect Tuomas' composer craftmanship even more. He kept it tight when the band needed it to make it.
I believe Tarja is a multi soprano. After she studied opera in Germany, her voice techniques changes, and in my opinion she has also become more versatile during the year. Something she was more or less forced to, because her only doing opera style, didn't give her that career she dreamed of. I believe she enjoys her solo career, not being forced to work within a band - she says that in different conversations, and her solo stuff is actually quite impressive.
tarja truly start shining like brightest star when she left solo career. last raw album is awesome hit album. sadly they not play her music in radio, only nightwish tarja era music. thanx to great reaction and have great week there.
I hardly hear any nightwish songs on the radio. No matter if Tarja or Floor.. Radio stations are not friendly to unique music. They play only the usual generic stuff that everyone can hum along .. or snore along.
The best I could classify her as is a Lirico Spinto soprano. She trained as a Mezzo-Soprano in her early years, then evolved into a Soprano, whilst still retaining the darkness of her chest voice (big clue). Her top notes are bright and metallic.
She’s amazing, she had a world of repertory from tangos and opera arias, to church and metal music. I love her voice, it’s describe by classical voices as one of more rare in her cord because she has a Spinto Soprano with a big range!
I love this version so much! It gives me goosebumps. And your face was just great :D I don't like all of her solo stuff, I didn't really get into the last albums, but her second solo album, What Lies Beneath, is one of my favorite albums.
Tarja has said in interviews that after the difficulty she had with the Nightwish cover of "Over the Hills and Far Away"- in her own words, sounded like a frog in the booth- that she wanted to train her lows. Obviously she very much achieved her goal of extending her range and the hard work paid off!
Exactly, that's why Wacken 2013 is so important .. it's a vocal feat by Floor .. it's doing justice to the music that Nightwish had created in a memorable way...not to mention Buenos Aires 2018..here are beautiful things from the musical history of nightwish made with great skill and beauty.
First Nightwish song I heard was Nemo on a music video channel in early 2000's. Although I liked the song, it was Tarja's voice that got my to buy their albums up to the Once album. She's also the reason I started exploring other Symphonic Metal bands. Favourite Nightwish song is Beauty and The Beast - featuring Tony Kakko Live
I Walk Alone, Die Alive, Sleeping Sun, Nemo, Phantom of the Opera, Over the Hills and Far away, Ever Dream, Passion and the Opera, Never Enough, Wishmaster, Sacrament of the Wilderness, and so many more lol one of my other favorites is Tarja with Scorpions singing The Good Die Young and with Steve n seagulls lol just trust it
The lady joins the band in her teens. Grows, matures, falls in love, marrys. Yep. Of course her relationship to the band changed. She a married woman does not want to change clothes with the boys? Thinks traveling in the same bus and plane is problematic? If true, she was right. It would not be appropriate. Costume changes especially dramatic ones do require help to be done quick. Increase budgets for creating a full sensory experience for the audience is brilliant. But how much would young single men understand that? They may have been literal children together but they do grow up. How much did she want out of the band forever or just to take time for a solo album and tour. To express herself through different styles and yes as a grown adult have creative control. She was no longer the shy introverted teen/early 20 something doubting herself. She had grown as an artist and performer. Like they all did. No doubt nowadays they would handle things in a more amicable fashion. They could certainly taken some time and then have the courtesy to talk to talk to her and her manager face to face and let her know when she was over the flu, that they would let her out of her contract so she could do her solo work. Leaving the door open in a few years to come back for another album and tour. Shouda , woulda, coulda but didn't. If they have made peace and are happy, lets be happy for them. Then and now the gift of the music survives.
Why did she leave Nightwish? It was both. She wanted to leave Nightwish in 2006 to concentrate on her solo carreer but she then was fired first at the end of the Once tour. I very delicate story and nothing less than a state affair in Finland. And actually she isn't an alto but a lyric soprano. But she can sing that low as well.
You as a specialist and your audience, it will be interesting to get acquainted with a young singer from Russia - Diana Ankudinova. Diana has a unique contralto, a range of more than three octaves and a vocal technique that is not available to all well-known performers. Diana is seventeen years old, she is a student of the theater institute, her original album should be released in the spring. You can start your acquaintance with it with a cover of "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaac.
The relationship between Tarja and the band had not been good for some years. Because of this, Tarja decided to leave and communicated her decision to the group. Tarja wanted to make her decision public and prepare fans for the change of vocalist, but the band convinced her not to make it public until the recording of a next album after "Once". It turns out that, unlike agreed, the group planned and wrote a letter of resignation to Tarja without her knowing it. At the end of the show "End of an Era", the band delivered the letter to Tarja, with the recommendation that she should not read it at that time. The following day that same letter was published on the band's website. In short, the band accused Tarja of being a diva and also criticized her husband, Marcelo. Tarja's dismissal was completely unnecessary. She had already told the group, approximately 2 years in advance, that she would leave the band. It seems to me that the group tried to punish her for that decision by launching a public letter with attacks on her and her husband. If any differences were unbearable, it would be enough to end the contract in a civilized manner, as any mature person does. However, the band preferred to plan and write the letter without Tarja knowing it, they had the coldness to record the last show with her (End of an Era concert), deliver what was written to her at the end of the concert, recommend that she not read at that moment, and publish the content of the letter the next day on band website. Because of that the band lost a lot of fans. Many of my friends, for example, stopped listening to Nightwish at the time. For me, the letter says more about the band than about Tarja. After the accusations made by the band, Tarja's husband came out in defense of her. He received, answered and made available on the internet more than 130 answers to questions sent by fans from all over the world. Tarja also wrote a public letter responding to the group. In it, she did not attack the band. In short she said she was shocked and sad, and said that she did not recognize herself in the description that the band made of her. Particularly, I believe in Tarja's version. The band used to treat Tarja very bad. For example, she was attacked once, in the middle of the show, and the band did nothing. At the ocasion, a crazy guy invaded the stage and tried to abuse Tarja, but the band continued playing as if nothing was happening. They also did nothing in the backstage. Tarja was conforted by Marcelo at the time, a person the group just had known. Incidentally, Anette, the second vocalist, was also fired. She was pregnant, was sick during the tour, and then the group decided to replace her with Floor.
@@MountainMetal Why? Why not just end it in a civilised manner like any sane persons would do? To cunningly plan and coordinate pieces for a dramatic departure rings of immaturity and viciousness that it should raise red flags up to the moon. Sadly, metalheads in general have a sexist way of constantly WANTING to vilify women.
True! "" I sang a repertoire of a mezzo-soprano for many years and because of that, still today, I have rarely quite low register for a lyrical soprano. Nowadays, I see myself as a light lyrical soprano."" 😉
Don't know if anyone said yet, Tuomas, Tarja and Emppu formed Nightwish in highschool 1996. There is some amazing videos out there from their first years ❤️
Tarja is a Spinto soprano, she is too dark to be a lyric and not dark and powerful enough to be a dramatic, she sits in between, she said years ago she was a light lyric and i burst out laughing, her dark, deep tone is as far from being light lyric than her from ever returning to Nightwish, She is a textbook Spinto Soprano with a 4 octave overall range, even though, her fully supported range is a tad shorter.
Sounds to me like Nightwish did not need Tarja (or Marcelo) and Tarja really did not need Nightwish. Now we get all the amazing performances from Floor with NW, and from Tarja... we get THIS. I wish things could've been handled better but at least things seem to have ended up well after the dust settled.
Shes the kind of soprano like Leontine Price, Renee Fleming or Edda Moser when she sing coloratura, her voice it's beautiful, I love her dank low and bright high!!
I would like to suggest a cover that Tarja made of Rammstein's song "Ohne dich". The cover was extremely beautiful. It was recorded at a church in Wacken. Tarja is accompanied only by a piano, a cello and a violin. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/uUAzRN9Co7s/v-deo.html This is a video with 6 songs, but in the description it has the name of the songs for you to click and be taken directly to the song you want.
Another soprano metal singer with a most impressive lower range is Britney Slayes of Unleash the Archers. It's past time. Other singers sing, Britney Slayes. Make sure to 👍 if you got the reference.
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Do find time to check out Manowar. Singers with a four octave range and such stability of tone they're instantly recognizable at every note don't grow on trees... 😉
I still can not accept 100 procent that Tarja... Is not anymore in Nightwish.... In 96 i was falling in love of this bamd... And the voice of this band for me remain Tarja... I like also Floor.... But is completly different... Would be nice to react at all dvd End of an Era
Love your reactions! I like your take on the different singers. This one just goes to show Tarja and Floor are both great, just different. This and something you said a while back about the decline of classical singing. This might make an interesting topic for you to cover sometime in some forum. What would be the classical singer interest in doing a orchestra scored version of say Poet or GSOT? I don’t mean doing it in a classical style, But as a modern take. We can see Tarja and Floor handle GLS with different interpretations. Imagine, someone orchestrating one of the “Long Three” for Orchestra. Imagine a tenor or baritone doing the Marco vocals from Dark Passion Play without the growls and weaving in and out around a soprano or Mezzo(my choice) more in a musical theater style (Don’t know the technical name). They would not be in classical style except in certain parts but singing more like Floor or Tarja. I think a piece like this would be great for a place like Saratoga or Tanglewood. All that said I bet the sound engineering would be tricky. How about some fun. Have a sound guy drop out Marco (sorry for the sacrilege..) and see what a tenor or baritone would do to fill the spot. Say any tenor named Charlie…. I have no clue what the copyright issue would be with that though.
Actually, as an artist I've begun a foray into the exact same thing you're talking about. Funnily enough, my vocal range is very similar to Marko's, so I've begun studying Finnish diction in hopes of doing a few covers of his songs. I'm a classical singer through and through, so this is definitely something I'd call experimentation. The next step for me is definitely finding the right composer to make that cover/modern classical adaptation work. But you and I, LR, have a lot of common curiosity here 😁
The war in the chat is what led to the Poet and The Pendulum so some conflict can end with a positive outcome! It would be great if you could react to Matt Bellamy of Muse who’s song this is. He has to use falsetto to get up there but he gets there and plays the guitar parts as well.
Not only a great singer she composes everything and is Multi-instrumentalist as well if it exists she can play all riffs and basslines written by her piano everything.
Please make reaction to Diana Ankudinova - the most unique young talented singer. One of my favourite things to find and enjoy is music that gives me chills and goosebumps. I was cruising UA-cam recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. Her delivery was nothing short of magical and I searched out more and more and more, and...more chills. I was stunned to find that the first performance I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 17 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English and Arabic. The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include the ethnic song "River" (in a new musical arrangement), "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", "Human", "Derniere Danse", "Helwa Ya Baladi" and others. Please react to one of Diana's songs and I promise she will surprise you.

i love both floor and Tarja, anette is better in studio than live. unfortunatley some fans get rabid about something that happened nearly 20yrs ago that everyone has moved on from. tarja doesnt care, she did an instagram live with floor and they talked about nightwish with no issue, hell theyre friends. these days its just the fans that want to keep drama going which is why i avoid them most of the time. its just sad because everyone has moved on and grown and are happy now and that should be all that matters. unfortunately most people would rather dwell in the drama and like i said complain about something from nearly 20 yrs ago instead of just enjoying the music that everyone is making. i love the stuff that they all create and how everyone has evolved and learnt news things to power the magic they are all creating. theres room enough in the world for everyone
You already did many reactions to Nightwish songs, including the full concert of Wacken 2013 from which many official videos had been extracted because it was for their new official band member : Floor Jansen. But you know now they had 2 other signers and Tarja was the first one, the one that define their style. Of course it evolve though the years, but what made Nightwish Nightwish at first? For me the answer is "Wishmaster". Dont try to find the Floor version, this song belong to Tarja. They are not play it again, or few, and Im not sure about the reason, maybe simply because they just played it just too much. So, if you want to see Tarja in her element with Nightwish, then react to "Nightwish - Wishmaster (Live)" with Tarja (the version with 9,6M views). ps: Tarja and Floor are friends for many years.
Pharaoh Sails to Orion live from the From Wishes to Eternity DVD. This is a song that Floor will never sing because this one is so perfect. Being an old song orginally from 1999, it shows that Tarja is a natural soprano. Just listen to her other early work. She discovered and developed her chest voice later. Just listen to her with Angra and Sergio Leone. At one point she sounds just like a male tenor.

She was fired for spending time in Argentina with her new husband. She's been my favorite singer for years. There's something not only about her vocal range, but about her timbre I really like. She started as a lyric soprano, but has been sing lower notes over time. Last I checked her voice was a half step below 4 octaves. She also knows how far away to hold the mic. She also sings over the mic when she sings really high to keep the sound right.

I really love her voice!! More Tarja please!!
LMAO. I KNEW you were about to take that "alto" thing back at 4:54!
I’ve always wanted to see a vocal coach react to my Queen! Thank you :)
GREAT reaction. TARJA is AMAZING. I really hope there will be more reactions to Tarja solo songs, she has such a versatile solo career.
Tarja is the best leader of Nightwish band and the best of singer !
Nope, not the best leader in any way, but I think you meant lead or front?
ps. sorry for old reply
I love her!!!!
For the good and the bad, she improved a lot after nightwish, becoming far more versatile
this is what I think as well. Her being removed from Nightwish was a shock to me at the time but later I figured it freed her to do a lot more.
I've only seen good and great from TARJA. MOSTLY GREAT !!!!
I love it when she smiles. I think she's funny.
Tarja is Amazing!
SHE'S the best.No doubt
Tarja is usually classed as a lyric soprano. She hits a D6 in Mein Herr Marquis, for example
I love Tarja turunen forever...
tarja truly start shining like brightest star when she left solo career. last raw album is awesome hit album. sadly they not play her music in radio, only nightwish tarja era music. thanx to great reaction and have great week there.
I hardly hear any nightwish songs on the radio. No matter if Tarja or Floor.. Radio stations are not friendly to unique music. They play only the usual generic stuff that everyone can hum along .. or snore along.

Nightwish kills itself, now also the charismatic Marko Hietala has left the band
This song Tarja hits the next level .... it's absolutely amazing
Have you not covered Nightwish version of Phantom of the opera yet???
You MUST watch Marko and Tarja sing Phantom of the opera!
It's coming up :)
Tarja have the voice of an angel
Phantom of the Opera - End of an era 😎🤘
The best I could classify her as is a Lirico Spinto soprano. She trained as a Mezzo-Soprano in her early years, then evolved into a Soprano, whilst still retaining the darkness of her chest voice (big clue). Her top notes are bright and metallic.
That's why i can not hear Nemo.. Ghost score love... And all the songs which was written for Tarja... When Floor is singing
She’s amazing, she had a world of repertory from tangos and opera arias, to church and metal music. I love her voice, it’s describe by classical voices as one of more rare in her cord because she has a Spinto Soprano with a big range!
Can you check Tarja singing "O mio Babbino Caro"? I'm curious to see what you think =)
😬
💘💘💘💘
I love this version so much! It gives me goosebumps. And your face was just great :D I don't like all of her solo stuff, I didn't really get into the last albums, but her second solo album, What Lies Beneath, is one of my favorite albums.
Tarja HAS to be able to break glass with her voice! I can not imagine that she isn't able to do that considering the notes shes able to hit!
Tarja is a lyric spinto soprano with an amazing range and highly emotive sound.
Tarja has said in interviews that after the difficulty she had with the Nightwish cover of "Over the Hills and Far Away"- in her own words, sounded like a frog in the booth- that she wanted to train her lows. Obviously she very much achieved her goal of extending her range and the hard work paid off!
Didn't realize all those soprano covers Floor was singing at Wacken 2013 were songs written for Tarja's voice, did ya!!
Tarja kills it…again. 🙏
I laughed when you said she was an alto, because i knew what was coming... and you did not :DDD
But you corrected yourself and props for that! :)
I Walk Alone, Die Alive, Sleeping Sun, Nemo, Phantom of the Opera, Over the Hills and Far away, Ever Dream, Passion and the Opera, Never Enough, Wishmaster, Sacrament of the Wilderness, and so many more lol one of my other favorites is Tarja with Scorpions singing The Good Die Young and with Steve n seagulls lol just trust it
Kiitos.FI. Tarja Turunen Ave Maria Paolo Tosti from the album Ave Maria En Plein Air.
I'd recommend her singing Ave Maria with Marco Hietela when they reunited a couple years ago
But she can sing that low as well.
she and bellamy should do a duet of this :)
1000000%!!!🔥🔥🔥🎤🎤🎤🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶.......Diana-beauty in every minute!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think you need to go to his twitch and put the song in the request list.
@@Eonarail Absolutely. Remarkable timbre. "Wicked Game" or "Rechenka".
Disagree.
She needed the boot.
@@FemaleMetalLover Oh, good grief.
@@MountainMetal Yeah good grief, sorry for ruining your pre-conceived notion.

Your thumbnails are surely the best in all UA-cam 😂👌
Tarja is soprano, not alto, not mezzosoprano, she is soprano, lyric soprano. ;)
There is some amazing videos out there from their first years ❤️
This sung by Tarja should be a James Bond theme. Tarja, Floor, Simone and Amanda Sommerville are in a legue of their own.
I've never listened to Amanda, but yeah, Floor, Tarja and Simone are incredible. My 3 most favourite female singers ever. I love them.
@@cancelled_user Amanda Sommerville is now with EXIT EDEN, check them. Awesomeness
@@nekane6168 I only heard Amanda with Epica, as a member of the choir. Yeah, I can check Exit Eden. Thanks!
@@cancelled_user Plus Amanda was also Simone's voice teacher or vocal coach for years too. Her voice is amazing! She's an alto.
@@nimedhel09 Yeah I know that, but I'm not sure she's an alto. Didn't sound to me like alto when singing with Epica.
Tarja is a Spinto soprano, she is too dark to be a lyric and not dark and powerful enough to be a dramatic, she sits in between, she said years ago she was a light lyric and i burst out laughing, her dark, deep tone is as far from being light lyric than her from ever returning to Nightwish,
She is a textbook Spinto Soprano with a 4 octave overall range, even though, her fully supported range is a tad shorter.
Tarja is a goddess and floor is her shield 🛡 maiden
Shes the kind of soprano like Leontine Price, Renee Fleming or Edda Moser when she sing coloratura, her voice it's beautiful, I love her dank low and bright high!!
I would like to suggest a cover that Tarja made of Rammstein's song "Ohne dich". The cover was extremely beautiful. It was recorded at a church in Wacken. Tarja is accompanied only by a piano, a cello and a violin. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/uUAzRN9Co7s/v-deo.html This is a video with 6 songs, but in the description it has the name of the songs for you to click and be taken directly to the song you want.
soooo beautiful!
Love the cover lol
Holy shhhttt... This woman is amazing, look beautiful 😍 Tarja omg... How much people ¿? WTF
Tarja is amazing!! React to Matt Bellamy, pls! Exogenesis part 1 would be great!
Floor/NW is fabulous, but I also seem to gravitate towards Tarja/NW....like picking one of your two favorite things..
Another soprano metal singer with a most impressive lower range is Britney Slayes of Unleash the Archers. It's past time.
Other singers sing, Britney Slayes.
Make sure to 👍 if you got the reference.
Watched her recently. Amazing voice
I'm pretty sure Tarja is a Lyric Spinto Soprano
shes' actually a spinto soprano.
Please check out SLEEPING SUN or the phantom of the opera. Please.
Terrific Tarja
She’s actually Dramatic Soprano:)
Not only a great singer she composes everything and is Multi-instrumentalist as well if it exists she can play all riffs and basslines written by her piano everything.

I just had Trumps voice in my had with "You are fired!"

Plz react to Nightwish -Siren (end of era) and see what she can do with her voice ;)
She was fired because she married other man than Tuomas
i love both floor and Tarja, anette is better in studio than live. unfortunatley some fans get rabid about something that happened nearly 20yrs ago that everyone has moved on from. tarja doesnt care, she did an instagram live with floor and they talked about nightwish with no issue, hell theyre friends. these days its just the fans that want to keep drama going which is why i avoid them most of the time. its just sad because everyone has moved on and grown and are happy now and that should be all that matters. unfortunately most people would rather dwell in the drama and like i said complain about something from nearly 20 yrs ago instead of just enjoying the music that everyone is making. i love the stuff that they all create and how everyone has evolved and learnt news things to power the magic they are all creating. theres room enough in the world for everyone
Nightwish was best with her.
Crave for more tarja!!!

She also sings over the mic when she sings really high to keep the sound right.
nightwish is all downhill since she left
