Well if we read the Splatoon 1 scrolls, technically the Great Zapfish was owned by the Octarians, but the Inklings stole it, the scrolls mention that the Inklings were such lazybones and very overconfident and the Octarians were almost winning the war, but the Inklings win because Captain Cuttlefish got the idea of stealing the Zapfish, the Octarians main energy source.
