Hello. Are you sure your Sp53 is in 5160 steel? If It is not laser engraved 5160-OKC USA, your Sp53 Bolo comes in the cheap 1075 steel. I bought mine thinking It was in 5160 as advertised at the store and finally I got the knife in this steel. If I had known my Sp53 were made out of 1075 steel I have never buy It. Ontario does not give accurate info to customers just to know the steel of their knives. Last Ontario for me. Regards.
Hey, thanks for the video! BTW, I have unboxed my cold steel marauder today, as a reward for a little challenge I took part in during February... Man, that will be the best EDC bowie knife I can imagine!
@@Redwolfblog Yes it is! And I got it for a great price, too, like 85 bucks or so, here in EU... And the challenge was a month without beer, hard, but still worth it.
I bought rtak2 probably it first launched in 2008. For one tool optiob, I will pick either BK7 or RAT7, for less weight. SP8, RTAk2, woodsman, in the car.
I find the smaller blades just don't handle what I like to work on. Thinking about doing some more side by sides next year, maybe we can all talk about it. I think what most people grab the rtak 2 for, I grab an 18" or 22" machete.
That is a mean question...they are VERY different knives, and very similar....IF you put them both on the table, and asked me to choose??? I would have to ask what we were doing with them? I like the look and HEFT of the 1917, and it is a better chopper, and I like it as a fighter, I have blocked sword blows in practice...slippery conditions, general bushcraft, processing unspecified game, average or less chance of self defense, RTAK definitely. The RTAK is a 1 tool option, and the 1917 is a 2 tool option...I normally carry 2-4 blades with me, so I don't NEED a 1 tool option very often, so the RTAK sits in my OH SHIT kit more than on my belt. That is praise, and not a slight. Hope that explains my thoughts a little bit?
Hey. Wanted to let you know your question stuck with me, and shot some footage exploring my thoughts to answer your question better. Should be up in the next month or so.
Rtak 2 is better than junglas as long as you have the 5160 version. Otherwise dont waste money. Just comes with a LOUSY sheath. I got an od green taco kydex sheath for it with a dangler. Keep the other sheath for a backup sheath. This, the bk9 and the junglas 2 i love. Junglas 2 doesnt chop as well or have a choil but is a nice medium size. Bk9 and this are a must have. To me bk 9 chops a tad better and batons considerably better. Rtak 2 looks cooler and that extra blade length is good for defense against critters
Great video! Thanks for making, i recently got the ontario sp53, quarter inch thick 5160 steel, its very heavy too but an incredible chopper
I think that is the only one of the spec series I have not tried yet...

A month without beer in the EU is like a month without a hamburger here. That takes real effort. Good for you.

Great video. Do you like the RTAC better than your Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie?

@@Redwolfblog Yes, that does explain your thoughts. Thanks for taking the time to provide that response.
Wanting those kinds of answers is why I have a channel. No probs.
