I completely forgot about how every map you’d spawn in, there’d be ambient noise happening around you whether it’s a teleported shutting off, or the bus honking. After playing BOCW so much lately, I forgot all about these nostalgic map ambiences.

Every map had its own ambient soundtrack even before Mob of the Dead. But Mob was the first to have unique music for each area of the map, and the first to have unique round start and end themes
I really like that. And that everyone in both Advanced and Infinite had their own animations, too. So much personality in just the beginning! ... too bad everything else was mid at best.
i love how mauer der toten (15:05) uses the original round start sound effect but not traditionally. it uses the variant found frequently in the waw campaign (that sound was WaW's creation and leitmotif)
I'm glad someone calls it the WaW leitmotif. It was created as just another WW2 horror sound to use in the campaign, and happened to be reused in zombies. It's basically Treyarch's little trademark jingle now since it was used in the BO3 intro.
The first time I loaded into Mauer and heard that I was immediately taken back 15 years to my WaW days, it completely caught me off guard. That one small vocal sound has so much power to make OG players feel nostalgic.

I really hope they make movies about the zombies storyline someday. Just imagine the ending of a movie watching richtofen gain control of the zombies and the cliffhanger that would leave for the movie
The only zombie maps that could make for an amazing movie is Shadows of evil x Mob of the dead. Having the mobsters origins be shown in morg city then having them fight zombies in alcatraz desperately trying to break the cycle would make for a goooooooood movie
Nacht waw was the best one, the creepy laugh was like a ‘you’re screwed’ kind of laugh, as you fight the zombies in a very enclosed dark abandoned base at night.
Got first time I completed the campaign and it gave me that cutscene, scared the living hell outta me and then once I loaded in... that laugh somehow finished it off and I believe I paused and left almost immediately.
POV: You decided to take a boat trip to Alcatraz Island. You picked up equipment needed (camera, recommend clothing (depending on season/weather), etc). You head to the boat either early, right on time or late. Then the moment you stepped your feet into the island, this plays 2:40
Waw nachet straight up chills for days especially after completing the campaign for the first time it's 12-3 am and u hear that intro it's a different type of vibe today's kids will never know
What I like most about this video is it succinctly illustrates why (aside from IW) non-Treyarch Zombie maps lacked personality in comparison to Treyarch's maps. The music is such a big part of it as well as the intros, first impressions are important. Just listen to all the AW intros and then listen to the Shadows of Evil intro. Then watch all the WW2 intros, followed up by the Voyage of Despair intro. The AW and WW2 intros are just the same bland stock sound effects for every map, then Shadows hits you with a colorful, vibrant, and energetic jazz tune and Voyage gives you this epic-feeling intro making it clear right away that you're on THE Titanic as it's about to sink. Excellent.
I think objectively, BO3 had the best round change music. Something about the soundtrack in Treyarch games just gives me goosebumps. But I wanna give a special mention to IW. They had a bunch of different themes for every character. That game was incredibly under appreciated. People just hated it because it was a futuristic game. If that game was set in any other time period, I think it would’ve been way better
Personally, I think that the biggest problem with IW was that it didn't do enough overall to differentiate itself from BO3 (at least when it came to multiplayer)
2008, Jr year of high school. WaW , the cutscene after the campaign completion, to the laugh at the beginning of round 1 which hasn't been in any other Round 1 of zombies ever was so great and nostalgic. That year is when I started my multi-player career for COD

BLACK OPS 1 4L.. also love the surrounding noises during game start it adds to that chilling feeling knowing what you’re getting into and the environment it all plays well together, like in kino when you’re teleporting in or in COTD, the water rumbling
CoDM player here. Never knew Black Ops Cold War have amazing intro cutscenes. I remember something similar in the Garena CoD Mobile Version of Nacht Der Untoten (not available in Global or Garena 2023 sadly), goodtimes. The closest thing we had to an intro custcene in CoDm Zombies are a comic in the Classic Version and an actual cinematic in Undead Siege (basically MW3 zombies but worse).
0:30 I'll never forget the first map I ever played... This was the first Call of Duty I played when I was given a 360 as a gift... I still remember the eerie sensation this map gave me. The funny thing was that I always followed the path to the left, until I learned when I started playing public matches that everyone always went to the right haha.

Shadows is my favourite, but having never played BO4, hearing the Nuketown one on there was a shock. Definitely one of the cooler intros.
