I’ve been having a debate with my father in law. He REFUSES to believe u can raise hogs on wire. I keep telling him. Jack. Chuck here does it with ALL his pigs. Even shows you how to do it. I’m going to send him this video and end the debate Have a great day Chuck. Thanks again
I have two 50 kg and five 30 kg pigs on our farm in the Philippines. I’m trying to convince my beloved that movable pastures and grass fed pigs makes better pork. Better for ground. Better for health of livestock etc. Thanks for the video. We lent $650 for 5000 square meters of grass and orchard. Multiple fruit trees and loads of Karaboa ( Filipino water Buffalo ) grass. I’m paying people to cut down the grass with bolo and a stick. I think better to run the pigs on it. Maybe mixed grazing with sheep and goats first followed by pigs. Rotate frequently
I had to laugh when you mentioned calling your young boar "Tank." I have a 4 year old, 750 lb Berkshire boar named Tank. He's built like one but he's a puppy dog at heart.
Hello! I realize i'm 2 years after you released this video, so hopefully you see this question. I see you raise your pigs on single strand electric. But in other videos you have them in pens. Is there a rhyme and reason to when they go to pasture and when they're in a pen? Also, do you have a fence running around the perimeter of your property in case they get out of their paddock? Thanks for your help and the great videos!
We start piglets off in opens to train them to the wire. Once they are trained they go out onto pasture to finish. Yes. We have a perimeter fence on the property. Thanks for watching.
What are you guys doing to keep predators out? We have coyotes (like most people) as well as wild hogs. Any tricks? I'm assuming I need a full on electric net style fence.
2 questions for you. 1. - can I intergrate new pigs with existing? If so, what's the best way instead of having a bunch of pens? We have 2, 4mo old gilts & would like to get a couple more piglets, at least 1 boar to breed the one gilt. 2. Have you had any issues at all with your pigs having worms from being raised on pasture/dirt instead of on concrete? We have a neighbor that says he will never eat pig that isn't raised on concrete because of worms. Claims he knows someone who's butchered hog was riddled with worms in the meat. 🙃
This time around it just didn’t work for me. And now hog netting is on back order. I’m working on changing some things today so I can try again. I had piglets everywhere last time I turned them out.
Yep. Tried again yesterday. Tester says 8000v DC they were screaming every time they went through it. I’m stuck for now. Thinking about a 120 volt charger and just run a trunk line on my perimeter fence so I can attach to it. I haven’t found any netting that isn’t back orders. I’ve got to get them out of the small pen.
I think it’s possible. I’d try it the same way with a training pen. Big difference I think is you’d want to make sure the training pen was pretty strong and they couldn’t bust out easily.
Great inspiration. (It’s all your fault) lol I Just put a deposit down to get 2 spotted piglets at weaning. Pigs are hard to find in my area I had to travel over an hour to find a good looking spotted pig. Also what is the best type or brand of wormer?
Do you ever have issues when you take down the trailer pen with the pigs not wanting to cross where the wire originally was? I've heard of pigs not crossing where a wire once was even though it was taken down.
Sometimes they are hesitant but they will eventually cross. Have to give them some time. As they get older, the more they move the faster they cross. These guys took about 10 minutes for everyone to come out of the pen.
Easiest way to get around that is to put up a removable, plywood sheet with t posts as a physical gate. Pigs will go through there. Then move that plywood to where you’ll move them next.
The hot wire is about six inches away from the pig panel, the pigs go nose around that wire they get shocked. As Chuck stated in the video it takes from a few hours to a couple of days for the pigs to get the message "Don't mess with the wire" then he moves the pigs.
We Just picked up some 1 year old Ossabaw's. Imagine a missile and tank combined into one. These guys have no wire experience and blew right threw the darn electric wire and pig panels. Never doing that again. Hard to teach an old pig new tricks. 😂

It just takes a little training but it can be done. We keep 700lb sows in with a single strand. Good luck

Yes. The pigs would do great grazing that area.

Cool! I like this little guy. Thanks for watching
Wow havnt seen u guys in a while . I was hoping Saundra was ok after the bore knocked her over she hit hard I felt for her. She's your best helper .
She’s doing great. And yes, she’s the best farmer I know.
Love the content I'm getting into raising pigs and learning as I go
Chris at Tillman Family Farm needs your help!! His piglets are going thru the double strand electric & running everywhere!!
Always. ENJOY. THE. EXPERIENCES. YOU. SHARE. GREAT. INFO. THANK YOU. 1.MORE PIECE. TO MY. PUZZLE

Hi.... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
Did you catch Hamlet linebacking Saundra on video?😂 Keep on sharing. Really appreciate it.
Awesome 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing. A lot of work on your part to get the pigs ready for processing but there is nothing like pastured pork.
Great video! We are preparing to do feeder pigs in the spring and your video helped answer alot of my questions! Thanks!
Nice video.
Thanks!
Thanks! Great info :)
Thanks. Appreciate y’all watching
Enjoyed
Thanks
Do yall worry about predators? I got coyotes and mountain lions. Any advice bc I want to get mine on pasture sooner than later.
Good video , just missing one thing ! Sandra 😝
Somebody has to do the work around here. 🤣🤣
I use one strand of wire with flagging tape ribbons every so often ..never lost a pig in 18 years
What are you guys doing to keep predators out? We have coyotes (like most people) as well as wild hogs. Any tricks?

@@tylermyers6920 I wouldnt use a net type ..just strands ..we got coyotes and wild hogs I only use a single strand
What’s the best energizer to use for pigs and piglets

Do you have a discount link for the Gallagher chargers?
How did you run the electric fence? Please l need a tutorial on it. Thanks!
This time around it just didn’t work for me. And now hog netting is on back order. I’m working on changing some things today so I can try again. I had piglets everywhere last time I turned them out.
Aw man!!! I need to go watch that video. Sorry you are having trouble.

Could you pls explain how you ground your fence pls?
We use a 6 foot metal t-post driven in the ground about 2 feet to hang the energize on. We just clip the ground wire to that post.
Are the black food bowl rubber? Where did you buy those.are those sturdy so as not to break easily?
Yes. I get them at tractor supply.
Are you using solar to power the fence
How much paddock space do you allow per pig/piglet? Do you have to do anything to the manure?
Do you have a perimeter fence? Or is the single electric strand it? Any issues with predators going after the piglets?
Is it possible to train older pigs in this manner, ones who have never had the electric exposure
I think it’s possible. I’d try it the same way with a training pen. Big difference I think is you’d want to make sure the training pen was pretty strong and they couldn’t bust out easily.
How about preditors? I have bears and cougars in my area .
What height do you put the wire?
Do you not have problems with predators jumping over the one wire ?
Great inspiration. (It’s all your fault) lol I Just put a deposit down to get 2 spotted piglets at weaning. Pigs are hard to find in my area I had to travel over an hour to find a good looking spotted pig. Also what is the best type or brand of wormer?
Awesome. You’re going to love pigs. Ivermectin or Safeguard are the ones we use.
I might have missed it, but hi high off the found is that wire?
About 4-5 inches.
Question---Is there any danger of predators jumping the single wire and killing the piglets?
Do you ever have issues when you take down the trailer pen with the pigs not wanting to cross where the wire originally was? I've heard of pigs not crossing where a wire once was even though it was taken down.

Is the wire poly or stainless
Do you use solar powered fencers?
Yes.

Morning. Why the cattle panels if you have a hot wire in the training pen
The hot wire is about six inches away from the pig panel, the pigs go nose around that wire they get shocked. As Chuck stated in the video it takes from a few hours to a couple of days for the pigs to get the message "Don't mess with the wire" then he moves the pigs.
They have to have something they can’t run through on the back side of the wire so they learn to back up instead of running through it.
Hey I was wondering if you use your AI rods once and throw them away?
The rods are made for single use, it's a pack of 25 for under $5 and it takes 2 rods per sow.
No. Single use. They are cheap
What’s the height of your pig wire
Nose high on the pig.
You only need 2 strands of wire to keep in pigs. Panels are over kill.
The panels are only there for a few days to train the piglets. Then we just use a single strand.
5,000 volts?
Yep
Shit I have 8,000 volts on mine and they run right through it
What about predictors, they can hop that fence, coyotes
We Just picked up some 1 year old Ossabaw's. Imagine a missile and tank combined into one. These guys have no wire experience and blew right threw the darn electric wire and pig panels. Never doing that again. Hard to teach an old pig new tricks. 😂
