This is Austin Brown. He is one of a kind. He studied Musical Theater in college and worked really hard to lose his Georgia accent. He is actually the only member of Home Free who is from Georgia. Tim (the bass) is from Texas, Chance (the baritone) is from Alabama and Rob (the other tenor) and Adam (the beatboxer) are from Minnesota. Austin can sing any genre with or without his accent. When you react to Delta Dawn, you'll see he really puts it on. He has his own channel. There is some amazing music on there, but since you talked about Musical Theater, I would recommend his version of Bring Him Home. In that performance, he brings his own style to it, but he is in character as Jean Valjean, not Austin Brown. Check it out and welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole.
Mayze, this is the second Home Free reaction I've seen you do. I'll be honest, I almost didn't come back. However, with this video, I think you did a great job of pulling back and realizing that less than can sometimes be more. I appreciated your musical insights and I learned some new things. Nice rebound, young man!
Austin has a degree in musical theater. He really knows how to make you FEEL a song. He and the other tenor, Rob Lundquist, have a duet on Austin's solo channel (Austin Brown) of Nessu Dorma. SInce you mentioned you are classically trained, I think you would love that one. Rob is also clasically trained and could have had a career in opera if he had continued down that road.
One thing to keep in mind is that you can't please everyone. No matter what you do, someone will find something to dislike. So, best thing is to just do you! That said, I had a little giggle watching this and remembering one of your first HF reactions when you speculated this might be the bass ;)
Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.
I was always told that the slurring was the lazy way to perform . . .then I heard Blues done right. I realized when I heard a really, really good Blues singer, I realized when it is done right it is not slurring, it is sauce and adds seasoning.
Do keep in mind that the vocals are recorded separately from the video. They *do* sing while they're recording the videos, but that's not the audio they use in the videos, that way they don't have to worry about wind, rain, cars, noises from the recording crew, etc. I think they usually record their vocals standing up, but they do perform some of their songs sitting down in concert and don't seem to have a problem with it (Tim refers to sitting as one of their favorite things).
If you wish to hear Chance's voice (which is so velvety smooth), got a couple of recommendations : Finally Free, Some Girls Do and Cover Me Up (which you have to watch PAST the music, or you'll miss the surprise at the end)
I enjoyed this reaction much more, thanks. Austin has a degree in musical theater with classical music training as well. He has solo work on his own channel that explores different genres. His Bring Him Home, Unchained Melody, or Georgia On My Mind are outstanding too.
I, too, was brought up in the wonderful, but biased, world of classical training, So glad you are no longer comparing apples and oranges. I enjoyed this reaction -- by listening more, you got the soul of the work, not just the technique. The heart often knows best. Home Free is largely responsible for broadening my perceptions of greatness, and is my favorite of the a cappella groups.
You could pause more at big wow moments like you used to and then rewind 10sec to hear it again, but still saving more dissection for the end was great
Much better with less pausing. Keep doing Home Free and they will constantly surprise you wirh genres and which singer takes lead. Austin Brown is a singing force to be recognized. You will grow to love him.
I've always loved the late Percy Sledge's 1966 original (not so much Michael Bolton's cover - I thought it rather over-wrought). Austin killed it. The harmonies and Adam's perfect beatboxing were fabulous. Austin was actually looking at his lady (who was off camera). His degree is in Musical Theater. When he was a kid, he'd sometimes travel & sing with his father's gospel quartet in Georgia (the other 2 southerners are from Texas & Alabama).
You were surprised he was singing this sitting down. He has some videos on his own channel where he sings "unchained melody" and "at last" not just sitting down but at times when he is leaning towards the mike he is practically doubled over. Since you mentioned you do musical theatre you might be interested in Austin's version of "Bring Him Home" also on his own channel. Tim Foust also does solo work. He has an album of acapella doo-wop songs where he layers himself singing all the parts. He has released videos for four of them. And I haven't even gotten into their work with other artists like Peter Hollins and the Hound + the Fox... Tim, Austin and Chance all have significant amounts of collaborations.
Austin is a theatrically trained vocalist. Rob, the other tenor is Classically/operatically trained. Walking away from Home Free, The former Bassist for PTX, The great Avi Kaplan is also classically/operatically trained. None of them use the sounds but I know for sure, Avi trained so he would now how to properly use his voice without damaging it. He has a very nice 5+ octave range and is also an overtone singer. Her is a quick short he does. Not his song, but he writes 99%+ of his music. ua-cam.com/users/shortsGOmbO2CEPoc
I like your reactions . Enjoyed your insights about music. Don't worry about stopped too many times. I didn't feel that's too much. This is your channel after all, so do whatever you want.
Austin has a musical theater background as well. He was a cruise ship performer. I do love the background vocals on this number. I was around when Percy Sledge sang this one. Austin surpassed it in my opinion. I was not fond of Michael Bolton's version. Austin's lady was behind the camera so he was singing to her. I love this one. It makes all the girls swoon! Oh Pepperoni, black olive and mushroom.
his girl at the time was in studio with him [notice the pointing ] she ended up crapping on him and broken hearted-but things happen for a reason- he found his real true love [enzodi ]
They Do use a loop machine in their live concerts. They explain and demonstrates how it works. Adam does a whole solo where he just keeps adding loop after loop of his sounds, beats, and singing into a unique musical piece.
Wow. I REALLY appreciate your humility and respect for viewers. I know you understand far, far more than me and can help me appreciate music better, so I was hesiatant to say anything about my distaste of your comparing Home Free and VoicePlay in the last video. Thank you for your sincerity and generous spirit in correcting your analyses. I have clicked the “Subscribe” button to your channel! (Edited addition… I ALWAYS add Salt and Pepper on top!)
Great Reaction! Here’s the guys Austin Brown ( High Tenor) from Tifton Georgia has degrees in musical theatre Rob Lundquist ( lead tenor) beard and glasses from Minnesota Classical music training Tim Foust (Bass 5 octave range) from Nederland,Texas Adam Chance aka Chance ( Baritone/Bass) from Baldwin County Alabama Adam Rupp(Beatboxer extraordinaire ) From Mankato Minnesota he is also Co Founder of the group in videos before May 2016 you will see Chris Rupp Adam’s brother the other cofounder Chance took Chris’s place PLEASE DO NOT DO MAYDAY TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THE GUYS RANGES if done to early it ruins how special this song is us fries always recommend for the reactor to wait even though others want you to please wait 😊
They all do a spectacular job considering it's done individually without input from the others. I'm amazed they were so prolific through quarantine...they usually released two videos each month! His lady, Amberly, was in the studio with him which I'm sure had an influence on his performance. As for pausing, I'm pretty sure we've all seen the video... I enjoy when reactors pause when they hear something that calls my attention to details I had missed. The only thing I object to, really, is so much theory style comments to which most of us don't relate.
MINIMUM please ! These Five and especially Austin being astronomically talented and range soaring HIGH TENOR just Goes Off on this Percy Sledge classic !
I love Austin’s voice, but more than that, I love that he puts everything he has into the song. He is a “glass half full” type of person always, and I like that. Please react to Man Of Constant Sorrow, amazing rendition and all our guys have solo parts, the beat boxing is incredible. Austin’s originals You Love Me Like That (my favorite) and Stargazer Lillies are so good. Your reaction to When A Man Loves A Woman was just right! I subbed!
Enjoyed your reaction. Austin has some amazing talent that he has worked hard to grow. This is by far my favorite version of When A Man Loves A Woman. Pause as much as you want. It’s your channel, I’m here because I’m interested in what you have to say. I think both Home Free and VoicePlay have songs that feature a particular singer, but Home Free seems to do it more often. Canadian bacon
Listen to Steve Perry from Journey. He blends his vowels the same way. And he is dubbed "the voice". Austin is doing an amazing job with this song. Home Free is the best in Acapella out there.
This reaction is much better with the less pausing and the analysis towards the end! Plus, your reaction to the song is brilliant and now so much better because you're listening to the song and the singer...loved this reaction!
Yes, I do like your pauses to comment. I have always loved music but have learned to appreciate fat more in my later years (now 78). Listening to your knowledgeable and insightful remarks helps me enjoy singing voices seven more.
You have been initiated. Life will not be the same after discovering Austin Brown. I like that you referred to his singing as flowing out of him, and as fluent. I go back and forth between fire and water: his voice flickers and it ripples. Sheets of lightning is my best characterization. One HF song that features the beauty of the 3 other singers' voices is In the Blood: Tim, Chance, and Rob all have unforgettable solos on this. And it's an incredibly beautiful song.
Just love your reactions! You will love Austin Brown's solo-"Unchained Melody". Home Free won The Sing Off in 2014 and I've been a fan since. I've been to countless concerts and each one is an amazing experience. Their voices are as good live and their interaction with the audience is so much fun. Tim (the bass) does the most talking. Storytime with Tim is especially fun. These guys are great humans! ^i^ Also love your verbal outro!
You are doing better. I enjoyed watching your face on this performance. It showed you were relaxed and really enjoying the music. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying the music and try to stay relaxed. Don't worry about what you think people might say. Just be you and enjoy!😁❤
The pausing was fine. One thing about the guys: Only Austin is from Georgia Tim (bass) is from Texas Chance (baritone) is from Alabama & Florida Rob (glasses & beard) and Adam (beatboxer) are both from Minnesota.
You have the talent and understanding to go as far as Home Free has gone. You also have the ability to teach others in a clear and concise way. Whatever way you make music your the center of your life, you will be successful.
Austin really has a beautiful voice! They all do! I personally enjoy more their videos from live performances than the studio ones, they have great audience interaction. Look at one titled "BHH & WWTWWS" It's 7 or 8 years old, but it's worth it! First half is Austin singing Bring Him Home (makes me cry every time I listen to it, really!), and the second half is a fun skit they used to do, but this one has a special twist! Btw, how did you manage to get 3 halves?? 🤣🤣. Ok, it was late, lol.
I saw them live in early May in Jacksonville, Florida. They sound very close to produced even when live. Also great entertainers. Everyone had a great time. These guys are good men and are like brothers. Been going to concerts for 50 years...never been to one I enjoyed more! Be well, be happy, Duke (BTW React to Dimash - said by many to be the best singer in the world...I have never heard better. Start with S.O.S. - Dimash is a musical genius.)
Only one member of the group is from Georgia, which is Austin. Chance grew up in Alabama and Tim in Texas. Rob and Adam Rupp are from MN. Now Tim and Austin live in Nashville, Chance in LA and Rob and Adam Rubb are in MN.
OK, go catch Austin doing "Unchained Melody" as a solo (guitar backup) and Tim doing "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow". These will give you a good idea of the ranges of these guys.
Austin was singing to his girlfriend, who is standing behind the camera, that's why he gives the camera flirty eyes every time. Also this was during quarantine, so they couldn't be together.
Austin is from Georgia, Rob and Adam from Minnesota, Tim from Texas (he has a 5 octane range),and Chance eas born in Florida. He and Rob has a video of 5hem singing opera. This very close to the original by Percy Sledge
Hi, I just subscribed and I like your reaction to this song. I was raised on country music and most country singers do that slide that you were talking about!!! 🙂
NO MATTER HOW MUCH I LOVE HOME FREE BY FAR THE BEST MALE VOCALIST ON TODAY'S MUSIC SCENE IS CHRIS STAPLETON ESPECIALLY LIVE WITH JUST AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR PREFERABLY WITH HIS WIFE MORGANE SINGING BACKUP. CHECK HIM OUT. YOU'LL BE GLAD THAT YOU DID. I PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okee dokee, now you are cooking with gas instead of spewing it. You are learning that reactions are just that, REACTIONS, not critiques. I have to admit when you started listening and stopped teaching I really enjoyed seeing the enjoyment on your face. I will be checking in with you more.
HOME FREE is Adam Rupp, (co-founder, a D & D Cleric from Minnesota) the incredible phenomenal Freak of Nature, a.k.a Spitter or The Machine. “Nomonica” and “lots of other instruments” Beatboxer, Tenor (Adam) Chance, (replaced Chris Rupp in 2016, A Mandalorian orig from Alabama/Florida now lives in CA) His is the delightful silky smooth Charming Crooner, “jaw harp” and “other instruments” Baritone/Bass Austin Brown, (skinny jeans, an Elvin Lord orig from Georgia now lives in Tennessee) Sweet slender sassy Badass “Some Nomonica” and “other instruments” Those runs though! Goodness Gracious! High Tenor Rob Lundguist, (a Teddy Bear Braveheart, from Minnesota) the sweet soulful Bearded Wonder, Whistler Extraordinaire Tenor Tim Foust, (“two things”, The Dude, Bass Face, The Dragons Breath orig from Texas now lives in Tennessee) the intense 5 octave playful subwoofer Breaks speakers Bass Along with Darren Rust, “magic man” producer Jimmy Bates, master of video technique, owned by Dexter Also their excellent stalwart crew Chris, Kait, Cam, Abe and Neil Chris Rupp, (hat guy, from Minnesota) Retired founding member, Adam’s brother, doing his own channel now Excellent arranger full gentle chivalrous artist Baritone/Bass
Man, you've been taken for a ride ...your first 3 Home Free songs "sea shanty", "man of constant sorrow" and "when a man loves a woman"... well, at least you now know they don't only do country.... May I suggest "End of the road"? It hightlights Rob and is one of my many many Home Free faves...
I was wondering when someone would recognize that he is sitting down and how hard it is to reach deep down for that amazing voice! But he does it effortlessly.
I miss your pauses, your genuine excitement . My favorite of your Austin Brown reactions was "Bring Him Home". You were just beside yourself with feeling - couldn't even take your meds! that's what I look for in your reactions
That open-mouthed fascination you showed, especially at the beginning, was (don't be offended, I'm 65 years old) adorable. I'm really enjoying your reactions. You need to remember that each of them will have sung their part directly into a microphone. (During lockdown, each of them set up a recording space in their home.) Then they're doing it AGAIN (and again and again) for the video. I'm sure that they're not simply lip-synching because it wouldn't look real, and they look like all the effort is right there during the videos. Their producer is incredible too. But it also means that Austin can be seated for the video, where he wouldn't likely be seated while recording the audio.
Subbed hoping you will get the chance to react to "Two Country Singers Try to Sing Opera", featuring Home Free's tenors, Rob Lundquist and Austin Brown. For amazing 5 part harmony that will leave you breathless check out HF's cover of Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" and their Crosby, Stills and Nash cover of "Helplessly Hoping". Thank you for the joy.
Austin and Adam killed it. Yes, this was during Covid. Loved the tv’s, thought it was clever. Austin can do amazing runs. I like it when you pause a little less. But it’s your channel. Try Helplessly Hoping, I Can’t Outrun You, In the Blood, So Long Dixie, Giving Up on You (with Texas Hill). 😍 I subscribed.
Just subscribed, first time watching you. I liked the way you did your reaction. The sliding into notes is something Austin does so incredibly mostly when he's doing the real country and twang, but at other times he does it when he's really being emotional. He takes one word and makes it into several syllables. I love that! It's just something he's really proficient at. I think you did Bring Him Home with Home Free. If you haven't yet, watch Austin do it as a soloist with piano accompaniment. It will blow you away! And another I love him doing a solo version of Tears in Heaven. So emotional. Take care and thanks again! PS: Meant to say I've been to 7 live shows of Home Free, incredible, fun, funny, awesome! You leave happy and shaking your head. But they do use more and more the looper or tracks mostly for Adam to have layers of the beat boxing. They are incredible on stage.
pls react to one Home Free's newest songs "Save The World" This is an original song written by Austin for his girlfriend. Austin is lead and his melodies in this song will blow your mind!
Thank you for addressing our criticisms. You're going to love this. Percy Sledge had a big hit with this in the 1960s, but it had a more melancholy feel. Austin's version is more Joyful and loving, and those loving looks are real. He was singing to his girlfriend Amber who was in the studio just off camera. You mentioned Austin's operatic mouth positions. You might want to check out Rob and Austin singing Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera.
Austin is the only one from Georgia. Tim is from Texas, Chance is in California and the others are from Minnisota. Rob and Austin are both classically trained. Rob in Opera, Austin in Musical Threatre which consists of many facets of music theory.
I've never cared for this song. Still don't. But the boys killed it. Amazing backing vocals. Percussion perfection. And Austin just sailing off into the stratosphere like it's natural.
Did you really just say “half said this and half said that and half said something else”? I’m literally crying right now. I don’t have anything else to say. Most music is rhythmic.
This is a reaction video. I truly do enjoy when you pause and comment. I prefer more pauses because I might learn something new from you. If I've never heard the original video, I watch it first and then go back to the reaction video. . Some reactors ended up not pausing and then comment at the end. I unsubscribed. I can just watch the original video.
Was about to subscribe until you started *analyzing*. That’s totally different from *reacting*. Sorry, but I don’t care for *analyzing* channels. But I’d say that you’re on the right track with Home Free!
This is Austin Brown. He is one of a kind. He studied Musical Theater in college and worked really hard to lose his Georgia accent. He is actually the only member of Home Free who is from Georgia. Home free not gonna lie, has grown so much on me! The video I have coming out Monday will make you most definitely feel good!!!
I was always told that the slurring was the lazy way to perform . . .then I heard Blues done right. I realized when I heard a really, really good Blues singer, I realized when it is done right it is not slurring, it is sauce and adds seasoning.
I’ve heard that, too, and never got it. I personally love it.
This one is definitely top tier. I absolutely love the look on your face when Austin belts out the first line of the song!
The look is a big part of the reason I finally decided to subscribe.
Do keep in mind that the vocals are recorded separately from the video. there are plenty of videos of Austin and Tim signing fantastic things while sitting. Unchained Melody for example.
@@nancyholter5646 They even sat down for some of their performances in The Sing-Off.

This is byfar the best version. He is singing to his girlfriend Amberly , who is behind the camera, so it's even more heartfelt.
"It pisses me off - but in a good way" is very relatable lolsob
Austin does Austin & he can sang !!! Anything 😊

Austin likes a slide/scoop as a stylistic choice. I’ve never seen him struggle hitting high notes straight on; he doesn’t have to✌️🤗
Great Reaction! Here’s the guys
Austin Brown ( High Tenor) from Tifton Georgia has degrees in musical theatre
Rob Lundquist ( lead tenor) beard and glasses from Minnesota Classical music training
Tim Foust (Bass 5 octave range) from Nederland,Texas
Adam Chance aka Chance ( Baritone/Bass) from Baldwin County Alabama

Look at one titled "BHH & WWTWWS" It's 7 or 8 years old, but it's worth it! First half is Austin singing Bring Him Home (makes me cry every time I listen to it, really!), and the second half is a fun skit they used to do, but this one has a special twist!
Btw, how did you manage to get 3 halves?? 🤣🤣. Ok, it was late, lol.
Lol love that video ❤ love hearing Austin sing Bring Him Home live 😍
@@minneyruth I like that version of BHH better than the solo one Austin did with Seb.
@Alex Walker I actually do too 😁 😍🔥
I saw them live in early May in Jacksonville, Florida.
Wait till you see the video of Austin and Rob try singing Opera! Your jaw will drop! 🤣
Great vocals and this man can operate a FEMALE ROOM 😊
Only one member of the group is from Georgia, which is Austin. Chance grew up in Alabama and Tim in Texas. Rob and Adam Rupp are from MN. Now Tim and Austin live in Nashville, Chance in LA and Rob and Adam Rubb are in MN.
@Mayze, your reactions are a great balance between analysis and feeling the music. You don't stop each second. Thanks. Go on in this way
OK, go catch Austin doing "Unchained Melody" as a solo (guitar backup) and Tim doing "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow". These will give you a good idea of the ranges of these guys.
Ooooh. Save those for a little later. Save Mayday for awhile too. Get to know their individual voices in the group before you go to those.
Mushrooms 😉
I highly recommend Home Free’s cover of Try Everything

Man, you've been taken for a ride ...your first 3 Home Free songs "sea shanty", "man of constant sorrow" and "when a man loves a woman"... well, at least you now know they don't only do country.... May I suggest "End of the road"? It hightlights Rob and is one of my many many Home Free faves...
I was wondering when someone would recognize that he is sitting down and how hard it is to reach deep down for that amazing voice! But he does it effortlessly.
You did a most excellent job young man ...thank you for your enthusiastic and very knowledgeable reaction and review!
You MUST hear Austin Brown do Bring Him Home! You will be amazed!
Tim Foust had to talk Austin into doing this! Poor females! Defenseless!!
You have improved, you've improved a lot. I love how you explain about using the shape of the mouth to affect how the notes sounds.
Thank you. Better for me personally.
Austin does this song exactly as it is intended.
He knows what he's doing. Yes, don't pause, it interrupts the flow of the song.
I love your knowledge of music. That is what draws me to a reactor.
Rob and Austin do Nessu Dorma. Since you are classically trained this may be of interest to you.
Great reaction. Appreciate your insight. Subbed for more Home Free. ( For something more classical: Austin Brown & Rob Lundquist sing Nessum Dorma)
Mushrooms. LOL!
Rob was singing this as his girlfriend was watching the recording being done in the studio; thus the extra bright smile on his face.
No, Sue, that's Austin.
I think you would enjoy Home Free’s version of Mayday. It is different from most of the music they perform.
Wayyyyyyyyy to soon he has to get to know the group and the guys ranges first
to early, give him some time
Just subscribed, first time watching you.
Austin was classicly trained
Pepperoni of course.
pls react to one Home Free's newest songs "Save The World" This is an original song written by Austin for his girlfriend. Austin is lead and his melodies in this song will blow your mind!
Best version.
Great job reacting!
You might want to check out Rob and Austin singing Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera.
just AWSOME AWSOME AWSOME 💞💞👏👏💞💞👏👏🎉🎉
Listen to Rob and Austin try to sing opera. Two country boys try to sing opera.
AUSTIN IS FROM GEORGIA, TIM (BASS) IS FROM TEXAS, CHANCE IS FROM ALABAMA ROB AND ADAM ARE FROM MINNESOTA
Austin is the only one from Georgia. Tim is from Texas, Chance is in California and the others are from Minnisota. Rob and Austin are both classically trained. Rob in Opera, Austin in Musical Threatre which consists of many facets of music theory.
Chance is from Florida and Alabama. He now lives in California.
@@beadwright Thanks for the update!
Better reaction this time bub.
I've never cared for this song. Still don't. But the boys killed it. Amazing backing vocals. Percussion perfection. And Austin just sailing off into the stratosphere like it's natural.
Now the bass is doing beats with the Beatboxer. One grew up in Georgia….You need to get your stats right.
Ham and pineapple 😂
Have you heard Rob and Austin try to sing opera yet? 😏
Did you really just say “half said this and half said that and half said something else”? I’m literally crying right now. I don’t have anything else to say. Most music is rhythmic.
Austin is the only one who grew up in Geogia. Rob and Tim are from Michigan.
Tim is from Texas, Rob lives in Minnesota.
His girl friend was in the studio and he was singing to her
❤🔥🔥
Hawaiian
Yes he's setting down his girlfriend their with him
How great is this? ❤🔥🔥
Minimum pausing. 😊👍🏼
Was about to subscribe until you started *analyzing*. That’s totally different from *reacting*. Sorry, but I don’t care for *analyzing* channels. But I’d say that you’re on the right track with Home Free!
