  • Cecil Janet Bailey Davis, age 94, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, three days before her ninety-fifth birthday, in Jackson, Georgia.
    Janet Davis was born in Monticello, Georgia, on May 11, 1929, to the late Robert Jackson Bailey and Laura Myrtice Edwards Bailey.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Roy Davis; son-in-law, Richard Dale “Rick” Raines; and brothers, Edward Jackson “Jack” Bailey and James Pittard “ Slick” Bailey.
    “Miss” Janet worked at the Bank of Monticello for fifty-nine years and retired as an internal auditor. She worked part-time at Jasper Memorial Hospital in medical records and served as a Gray Lady and Pink Lady.
    An active member of the Monticello Baptist Church, she served on many committees, taught Sunday school, worked with missions, served as Girls Auxiliary director, and sang in the church choir.
    She was a board member of the Department of Family and Children Services, served as treasurer of Hunter Pope Country Club, volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce, and supported the County Extension Service, Jasper County Library, and AARP.
    Janet and her husband were avid sports fans of the Hurricanes, Atlanta Braves, and the Jasper County Recreation Department sports teams. She also enjoyed traveling to all fifty states and many foreign countries.
    Lovingly known as “Grandmama or Nanny” to her family, she supported her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in sports and encouraged academics.
    “Miss” Janet received Citizen of the Year for Jasper County in 2017, but above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
    She is survived by her children, Diane Davis Raines of Jackson and son, Thomas R. (Nancy) Davis of Dublin; grandchildren, Lauren Kitchens, Whitney Berry (Derrick), A. James Jones, Brin (Todd) Hogan, Matthew Raines, Andrea Raines, Jacob (Abi) Raines, Steve (Jenna) Raines and Sam (Kayla) Raines; great-grandchildren, Hayden Kitchens, Jasmine Berry (Travis), Elise Berry (Jake), Maya Berry (Keshawn), Jacely Hogan, J. D. Hogan, Kenzie Hogan, Audrey Raines, Olivia Raines, Conner Raines, Brigid Raines, Adelyn Raines, Camden Raines, Benjamin Raines, Jonathan Raines, Harper Raines, Clementine Raines, Ethan Raines, and Nora Raines; and sister, Barbara Bailey Finney of Jackson.
    Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Monticello Baptist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. David Artessa will officiate.
    William Oliver, Gene Bailey, Bobby Bailey, Will Perry, Ben Perry, Jody Mitchem, Wesley Mitchem, Robby Batchelor, and Paul Batchelor will serve as pallbearers.
    The family will receive friends at Jordan Funeral Home on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
    The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to Monticello Baptist Church Project Fund 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, Georgia 31064, and/or Abbey Hospice 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, Georgia 30025.
    Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
