This video had me tearing up. My grandfather, Charlton Evans of Ewell on Smith island, was the captain of two skipjacks. The F C Lewis and Miss Bradshaw. As a child in the 1950's we would some times visit him during the oyster season when he docked in Annapolis. When I was older I would crab with him on the Two Brothers crab boat during the Summer. I always wanted to go oystering with him during the season but going to school prevented this. He was a great hard working man that was a true role model in my life. I was so fortunate to be able to work on the bay and know some the people that worked on it.
My grandfather Captained the Katherine in the 19 teens. His first wife was good with it, but when she died young, he married my grandmother, and she didn’t want him leaving home for days on end, so he became a farmer. But not before his brother passed away from the Spanish flu while docked in Baltimore. He fathered 10 children. 2 with his first wife and 8 with my grandmother. His name was Richard Edward Verlander. They called him Captain Eddy.
I `m building a scale model Skipjack-the "Carrie Price' from Lindberg. This video was exactly what I was looking for to get the proper colors and other details of these boats to build an accurate model. Thanks!

My grandfather John Nicoloy had a skipjack named Dora Bane, after his mother. Many fond memories in the 70s of the old girl.

A wonderful working fishing boat.
Calico Jack the pirate used a skipjack a while before they ever landed in the north east as oyster boats.
