Also, that Batman/Catwoman ride-off scene I was like, "Wait....I thought the city was flooded?"
Worst part about that final scene is how they do the whole "how does he appear out of nowhere?!" deal, and then as they go to leave, his insanely huge bike is literally right outside the door! Like, did he kill the engine 300mtrs up the road and push it the rest of the way?!
I'm so glad he mentioned the part with Batman chasing Penguin down and all the cars exploding when he wasn't even the informant. And although he had a dead body in his trunk and they were transporting guns and money, batman and the police commissioner just left him there 🤣

@@wingspantt but somehow he created video recording contact lenses, stealthy grappling hook, those electric shock thingy he use on those bullies but not...a batarang?
When I was watching The Batman, there's a solid 60 seconds when one of the Riddler cosplayers could have easily shot Batman in the face with the shotgun from nearly point blank range. All I could hear in that moment was Ryan narrating the scene, "And then one of the Riddler goons is going to have a very clear shot of a helpless Batman for a very long time." "So I guess it's gonna be tough for Batman to avoid dying then." "Actually it's gonna be super easy; barely an inconvenience!" "Why?" "Because the guy's not gonna shoot him." "Why not?" "So the movie can happen." "Fair enough."
@@tylerwilson5769 Watch Gotham instead. Its a much much better version of a young Bruce Wayne. The Batman was just a poorly written caricature of the original. I loved Batfleck because he was the closest to the comicbook character as we know and love. He was chill as Bruce Wayne and an absolute beast as Batman. That was true dichotomy.
Props to Ryan for bringing up the fact that Robert Pattinson has been in great movies since the Twilight series, hopefully other people will look them up!
@@dkey201 I wouldn't say so. If you actually paid attention, batman is basically doing exactly what riddler is doing( except riddler is more violent). They are basically lashing out for what happened to them in their childhood. I seen people say that the riddler is a whiny incel. But when you get down to it, batman is also kind of like that, without being extremely violent. He is also using the element of fear against the criminals. The last scene of the movie where batman uses a flare to guide the people out of flooded gotham is basically him becoming like a symbol of hope instead of being a symbol of fear or vengeance, as depicted before in the movie . As in, he realizes that he needs to be more than batman to help the city. Pattinson s batman is young, been batman only for 2 years and is socially reclusive. If they don't make him more socially active in the sequels, I would agree with everyone in saying that there is no difference between batman and bruce. Here, in this movie, it makes sense for them to have no difference
you know whats also funny. Thomas wayne making an enemy of one of the most powerfull people in the city and saying, "I'm going to the police" but then first going to the movies with his family.
YEAH!! I caught that too immediately! It's the one problem I had with the story. And it's really not even that. It should have been more vague an open ended. Like Alred should not have had ALL of the information. It would have been really good and fitting to just have Wayne be a flawed criminal politician. Bruce wasn't raised by his Father, so him having a different moral compass would have been interesting. Anyways, back to what they actually did in the movie. I have one second thought. Alfred SHOULD have said that HE did go to the police. And the next day he was killed. The police corruption story line was already there. It was so close to going in a more interesting direction.
That made no sense...which indicates that this writer IGNORED the actual history of Batman and started his own timeline...like J.J. Abrams with Star Trek in 2009. (Screw the original, let's make Bruce's dad "maybe a little corrupt" with mob ties.)
@@Artjedi44 It could have made sense from Bruce Wayne's point of view. How old was he when his day died 9, 10 years old? How many of us even really know and understand our dad's at that point in our lives? Learning that your mom and dad are very flawed people is rite of passage for every child growing up.
Fun fact: the director literally picked Pattinson for the role bcs of his performance in Good Time, as it reminds him of the late Kurt Cobain, his great inspiration for the version of Bruce Wayne in this movie
That is super weird. This entire film sounds like it was yet ANOTHER non-sequitur, non-sensical disaster. In the scene with the red flare, one of the people Batman helps is the mayor, who has been shot by a sniper moments before, and she’s walking around completely fine
Right?? A shot rings out, her head snapped back and she goes down, Gordon scoops her up... but apparently that's just how she reacts when she's surprised, because she's clearly not shot at the end of the scene!!
There was some activity around her with medics, indicating that she had been shot in the stomach area somewhere? But the way she reacted sure looked like a head shot, and with the sheer number of bullets flying you'd think she and Gordon would have multiple bullet wounds. But apparently a single bullet wound to the abdomen, hastily bandaged by harried medics in a mass casualty situation is nothing to worry about or limp over or even wince slightly when climbing over obstacles in chest-high water that is, I'm guessing, free from any contaminants that might seep into a wound like that; completely sanitary... I did quite enjoy the film as a whole, but every film has its moments of suspension of disbelief, and that was one of them that seemed weird, like she should have at least been holding her side, wince a bit, hang onto someone's shoulder for support, but no. Ah, well.
@@TSIRKLAND Depends where she was hit and if it was a through and through and she would also be running on adrenaline. She wouldnt be in a fully conscious state. When I was in Afghan I remember a soldier coming into the med centre holding his abdomen, his top was off and he had a gunshot wound. He was completely composed and moving around fine like nothing had happened. The doctors were the ones in full on action mode but the patient was completely calm and showing no signs of pain. The medics could of also been carrying morphine or another form of pain killer.

Shame the film doesnt establish his suit being protected against electricity, like a shot where he tases a guy with a built in taser in the rain and it doesnt effect batman despite the rain? Shame i gues
That bomb scene definitely needed to be done differently. Like totally. Also, they should’ve done more with him not being too nonchalant about getting shot: like a little bit more running or evading. Come on. Otherwise, I did really like it
I was considering subscribing to Screen Rant just for the pitch meetings but so glad you have your own channel for this and great first video 👍🏻. As always plot holes I didn’t think about at all 😂
That moment where you say “we’re not done sir” is exactly the moment where I was convinced the film was ending lol Still glad it went on because that (mild spoilers) Batman-Riddler Asylum convo and ending character development was juicy.
This could actually be the ending that made Batman realise the mistakes of his ways, avoidiing the nonesnsical last part of the movie.I found that part hillariously funny.
@@Turambaris Yeah. Up to the point Riiddler was captured, I really liked the film. And it was a perfect way to end the film. Batman has a conversation with Riddler, where he realizes that his actions are inspiring people like Riddler to take up extreme vigilante actions, and thus he needs to change his ways. But insteaed we get the 3rd act, where Riddler goes from this semi complex character, wanting to expose the corruption of Gotham and take out the people in power that rule over Gotham, in his own twisted sense of justice to a Mentally ill, "Kill the Rich", domestic terrorist. And Batman ends the film by fighting a bunch of untrained domestic terrorists. The last act of the film was very underwhelming.
The movie is about Batman learning that he has to represent hope, not vengeance, so if you cut out the last act of the movie you take away its meaning.
This, the cinematography and the stunt work are the only praises I have for this movie. The rest is just mindless trash, that we've seen a million times before.
I know! The movie was so good! Finally a standalone superhero story with very little expanded universe connection! Loved the villians motives! Story was good! Soundtrack is brilliant! Cinematography was perfection! Acting was surprisingly very good!
That streetlight plot point/clue has maybe the largest gap in cinematic history between its vagueness as a clue and specificity as a clue. On one hand, it’s a vague enough and popular enough phrase to refer to possibly dozens of different things. On the other hand, it specifically meant bringing one specific person under one specific streetlight in an entire city. Legendary.
Everybody says that Riddler being caught felt like the ending but to me it didn't feel like that at all. Riddler basically just turned himself in. It's like if Se7en ended when Kevin Spacey's character walked into the police precinct. Also, getting rid of the 4th act would take away Batman realizing he needs to stand for hope which was an extremely important part of his character arc
Same. Riddler even says he wanted to get inside Arkham because he’d be safe from his ultimate ‘flood Gotham’ plan there, with Batman his bff. The sea wall was the first big Renewal project as said in the earliest lines of the movie and so it makes sense Riddler would be pissed at a kind of monument to Thomas Wayne’s aid.
Honestly, when he used his grappling gun to swing toward that cube with electric wire, I was like... wait, are they really that bold to kill him here? And for a moment I thought that yes, they will. But then they did not even spend like 5 seconds him being under the water to build up the tension if it is gonna happen. He just dropped in the water, 2 seconds later just pops back up and I was like... oh.. yea, Hollywood, how dumb was I to think he would die.
I wish they held onto it longer to make the audience think he was dead. Like I fully thought "huh. this movie could kill him..." but then it was only like 5 seconds
@@themimsy I mean let us be honest here....would anyone fall for that...like...anyone...at all....because I hightly doubt it. It is the god damn batman we are talking about her...if they had done the typical, painful and overused "OMG! Look! He is really dead! For real! He is so totally dead no way he is ali...ahhh gotya! he is fine!" I think I would have just been more annoyed with it. They didn't keep you in the "suspense" because they knew no one would fall for that overly used gimic. Had they had the balls to actually kill him off now...see...that would have been actually interesting.
Riddler was way more interesting before they decided to have him murder everyone because he's autistic. As opposed to previously, where he was only murdering some people because he's autistic. Also, did Batman also feel somewhat autistic/aspie to anyone else? I got that impression very strongly, especially whenever Catwoman was flirting with him and he seemed to have no idea what to do. (I am also Aspie, so I consider that a cool bit of representation, not an insult btw)
This was my main complaint they could have made this movie without 4 villains and all the bloat. A lot of it felt like it went no where. Which sucks because I really liked the atmosphere and the crime drama feel of it.
That is a common complaint, but Robocop's face is just inch of human skin. They were supposed to film a scene where that is explained & I think you can see that the face is just a piece of skin in one of the films, when he is sitting in his chair. The idea is that person would go insane if they woke up in a robot body, so they left his face so that there is something familiar in their robot body, also it makes Robocop more human, so the public likes him more.
@@tobigbemisola Is Dredd's armor bulletproof? I haven't read the comics, but I always though that his body armor is like our body armors, it gives some protection, but he can be killed by a shot to the chest.

I had read years ago that Colin Farrell would play the Penguin in the new Batman movie, so when I went to watch it I thought that maybe because production was delayed or something, he couldn't do it anymore and they got another actor. Then I googled it and I though it was a mistake, that they forgot to accredit the new actor. @@BBTM951 Only people who think Batman needs to be dark and brooding all the time because that's all they know about Batman. Batman smiles more often than you think.
Batman has more plot armor in this movie than any other movie he's been in. Completely bulletproof (except when he's not), a super strength plot juice vial on his suit (just in case), takes getting blown up at point blank range and is not severely injured or damaged, and then phenomenally fucks up crashing from the top of a 40 story building at near terminal velocity and only limping and moaning after getting hit with a bridge, a bus, and a car before crashing into the pavement.
I got the feeling it's just more noticeable here since the grittiness makes us think this was a more realistic setting. I bet the Burton Batmans still have a lot more plot armor.
I had to wonder why they put in that scene of him smacking into a pole after gliding off the building. If you're going to shoot that scene, surely you want to show Bats with some sort of injury afterwards - but no, smash cut and he's absolutely fine. (I suppose you could argue he's tripping balls on pain killers, but that won't help soft tissue damage like bruises and cuts - the speed of that impact he was lucky not to have been decapitated, so at the very least I'd expect a scratch or something). Similarly with the point blank bomb explosion - I can believe his armour protects him from being blown to bits (it's Batman, after all, if anyone has that tech, he does), but not so much as a scratch on it or his face is a tougher sell. Normally you put that sort of scene in to _justify_ showing clothing damage or at least minor injuries. Did they forget that Batman doesn't have Supes invulnerability? :)
@@Ambar42 That's one of my issue with this movie. If you want a gritty and realistic movie you can't have characters be invincible. If you want characters performing super human feat, you can't have a realistic world.

The biggest problem with the story was the underwhelming reveal that the snitch was the leader of the mob

Agreed! I didn't really get what Ryan was talking about with how Riddler's arrest should have been the end, it so clearly wasn't.
People who say that haven't diversified their watching habits. Not every film needs to follow the same old structure
It's like they stole directly from Se7en lol
While I felt like it was the ending in the cinema, I’m so glad it wasn’t for the reasons you said.

Can I just say I really appreciate little background noises like the phone ringing that just help set the scene of where these guys are having this meeting.
Same, thought an imaginary phone rang in my house lol
“So Batman climbs onto the electrified wire and cuts it with his batarang, selflessly risking his life”
“Why didn’t he just throw the batarang isn’t that the whole point of them?”
“Oh I guess he could’ve done that, whoops”
“Whoopsie”
He could have also cut it beneath him
That's a tactical knife lol, boomerangs do work like that.
Funny how no one seems to ever mention the lack of batarangs in the movie. Just the giant emblem being a detachable knife, as a….surprise? In the last few minutes of the film?
@@jonasadams3173 It was used throughout the film. Not just that scene.
@@davidberger8420 Lol.
When I found this channel I knew I did not need screen rant any more
This is very serendipitous, I just got my notification that a new screen rant video was up, I thought to myself, I should click on it because I’ve been waiting all day for this video to show up, after all it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Man I'm so happy to get a notification for pitch meeting. Like before I had to just remember the upload schedule because I refused to subscribe to screen rant
Except it's not a Screen Rant video :D
Can we just talk about how riddler stealth was max out, this man was literally standing In the middle of the mayor's house looking at him while he walks back and forth, but somehow he didn't notice the riddler was there
Nope. Looking from across the street with a rifle scope. Didn't you notice the numbers on the bottom of the screen? Once he WAS in the house, Mitchell was too distracted and upset to notice anything
Probably some super artsy shit we "wouldn't understand" like that was Reeves way of showing what a behind the scenes mastermind The Riddler is. Yet we got no pay off just an anti-climatic ending with multiple Riddlers.
@@MasterDisaster313 wasn't that the Joker with him in Arkham Asylum?
@@karert1 I'm referring to the final showdown with the Riddler
@@ohio I thought the same thing. I was so confused. There’s no way he didn’t see him
"Does Batman show even the barest hint of a smile in the three-hour runtime?"
"He does not, sir"
After Selina saves him, he actually smiles
I thought people didn't like it when Batman smiles like in Whedon's Justice League or the Schumacher movies.
“I’m rich”
Inexplicable plot armor is just like Batman's armor! Tight!
Guess the scriptwriter failed high school physics and biology - but most of them probably do.
“He’s just committing murders and leaving little riddles for Batman”
“Oh I bet he is”
Gold
He needed to bring him to this specific spot because that was one of only four lightbulbs in Gotham.
Also it was in front of Riddler's home
3 light bulbs* the fourth is the bat signal and that one doesn’t count
😂😂😂
all those people died so batman could follow an incorrect hunch
@@Darkness-ie2yl You watched the video too???
I can't believe he didn't mention "So the guy who has a timed bomb on his neck will have to wait till nightfall for batman to save him."
"Why doesn't he save him immediately?"
"Because Batman only comes out at night."
"Makes sense!"
I think it was more just that he had to go put his suit on
Maybe because he has to go all the way back to Wayne Manor, equip his costume, then go back there. Still a bit confusing though when I saw it
I thought it was odd that they just let that phone ring and ring and ring and ring some more
@@dillMANbaby The battery life on that was amazing now that you mention it.
And phones don’t just ring and ring so the riddler would have had to keep calling back. Hahaha that makes me laugh just thinking about it
I thought it would be super hard to like this channel but it turns out it's super easy, barely an inconvenience.
I cackled at the Colin Farrell bit, because that is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw his name in the credits and googled it 🤣🤣🤣
Clicking onto a new pitch meeting as soon as it shows up in notifications is super easy, barely an inconvenience
It's also TIGHT!
I absolutely loved this movie! Also, can you do a pitch meeting for Batman Returns?
I don't mind pitch meetings for old Batman movies but I think I'm done with paying to see new Batman movies.

People who make this argument miss the point. The final act is essential to expressing the themes of the story, and showing the catalyst for Batman’s change. Without it, the film would be incredibly underwhelming.
"He happens to run into a cop who happens to start talking about how he happens to have an uncle who works in the carpet business"🤣 Idk y I replayed that like 10x.
Though I don't think that's what actually happens. When the cop sees the weapon, he _immediately_ identifies it as a carpet tool. He goes on to talk about his uncle, but Batman walks away to look at something else.
wow wow wow...
@@ThreadBomb it's still pretty convenient
@@ThreadBomb Just kinda confused how Batman, the world's greatest detective, didn't immediately identify it as a carpet tool himself.
@@MustardGuy161 he's just starting out and not the world greatest detective yet here he clearly making some mistake/judgment here; it also enforce the poor vs rich gap because batman just see the carpet stuff as killing tool not for more than that.
Love how bullet proof vests in movies just pretend bullet spalling and splash don't exist. Even if the bad guys don't shoot Batman in the face, the fragments from the projectile breaking up on his armor will turn his face into swiss cheese.
Not to mention each bullet hit probably feels like a sledgehammer. Multiply that times 50 and you've broken all your ribs and collarbone.
@@cmdtrigun Isn't that what happened at the end when he gets shoot in the chest so he was forced to use adrenaline or whatever that was to save Catwoman?
@@ExtremeMadnessX
True, but his point is that should’ve been happening every time, not just that one time at the end
To play devil's advocate: it looked like his chest plates are angled to deflect rather than straight up stop them. (Also real life vests don’t shatter the bullets, they absorb the impact and prevent it penetrating, although they still leave massive bruises). That being said, the way they are angled would also just go straight to his face or arms...
@@vietnamd0820 Before he wasn't shot at such close proximity.
I love how he references Bats incredibly thick plot armor
IMO the ' I am vengeance' scene at the end was just beautiful, it beautifully showcased the transformation of Vengeance into Batman❤️
I’m so glad Pitch meeting now has its own channel. I was subbed to screen rant only for this content. Ryan’s other channel is also hilarious with those “first person to_______” video series
I didn't even sub to Screen Rant. I just searched "pitch meeting" once a week.
Why are you glad?
It's awesome to see how pitch meeting has evolved over time, his two characters really became something special if you go in look back at the first parodies they made they are totally different, but now I look forward to these. Keep them up Ryan!
