- Elite Dangerous, PowerPlay 2.0 How to farm power ship kills for 50K+ merits per hour
• Elite Dangerous how to... Use this to find reinforcement systems or undermining systems
*Side note: The Merit rewards aren't random. Instead, they're tied to the target ship's rank, with higher ranks awarding more Merits. This is unconnected to the size of the ship. A Deadly Eagle will award more Merits than a Competent Anaconda.*
good observation, I had not found out what the pay out was linked to
Simple, helpful, and straightforward video. Thank you.
Concise and informative. Thank you for this Cmdr!
Oh my god! How did I forget about this older method with the new payouts! Thank you!
This is great! Just hope they don't nerf it before the sol stuff is done. There's so much to do!
@existentialselkath1264 this has been a merit farming method since the beginning of power play 1.0. Outside those of us that played powerplay seriously, no one really had a reason to kniw about. It's not as cheesy as the fighters were. You have to be able to kill the ships before they jump out. It's not just one shooting them with a few missiles. I don't see them rebalancing it tbh
@FFLN-b2c that's a good point. Hope your right cos it'll be a while before I can give it a shot but I'm glad I stumbled across this. Instant sub
@@FFLN-b2c gave it a shot and all I get are friendly instances. Hopped around to a few different reinforcing systems and no change. Any ideas?
@@existentialselkath1264 what distance where you dropping out, and what power are you?
@@FFLN-b2c mainly ~750km but I've tried anywhere within 100-1,000km. The power is Aisling Duval.
Saw a comment further down with the same issue. Could be incredibly bad luck, but I was trying for a fair while.
Damn thats actually some good Info
thanks for watching

I am also pledged to Archer- was wondering who that guy was at the top and how he got all those merits. Well done, good video and keep it up, thank you.
thats not me with the millions of merits. Allot of people getting merits that high are AFK farming. I don't AFK farm. Though if you have enough time to play, it is very possible to get that many merits. trading is still very unbalanced. Some trading powers are getting close to 100k merits per trade loop. so that is like 100k every 15 to 30 minutes
I did this for two hours after spending most of today's playtime engineering a Python mk 2 and I can confirm this is very fast! Worth noting that if you bring collector limpets with you, you can snatch up any occupied escape pods. I did that because Aisling provides better merit payouts for them and I ranked up, I think 3 times just before tonight's reset? Didn't have time to check my weekly earned merits but it's more enjoyable than doing trade, for sure. Thank you :)
Oh, also, I noticed something! The ones in wings typically have a designated "courier" and an escort or two. Couriers will always try and run away if you attack them, but the escorts will fight back and the courier won't try to warp out until you actually fire at it. Maybe it isn't faster to try and kill all of them, but I was killing the smaller ships first before the escortee.
If you rank 3 times after 2h play then it is not fast. You can make 32k merits (3 ranks) in 1 hour with mining.
@@Marval150Well, I definitely could've been faster just from a personal standpoint. I wasn't exclusively doing this, I had a few flubs where I needed to go back and repair or get up to get water, etc. I know for sure I could've gone faster, it was my first time doing it.
Also, I just, really don't like mining. It's not my idea of fun, so I prefer doing things like bounty hunting (if I want some slower but more enjoyable merit gain) or this if I want something faster and easier. This is still the fastest method I've used so far that I actually like.
one thing not mentioned in the video that is causing people to have issues with this method is the power they are pledged too. only these five offer power kill merits in reinforced or undermined systems are; Arissa, Yuri, Denton, Jerome, and Archon. otherwise thanks for the video
Another great video, very helpful
I did some massacre right on the beacon spot in the anarchy system 😅
thanks for your tip, I'll try it 👍😎 o7
This is fantastic, TY
thanks for watching
Quick note, merit payouts are rank dependent which means an Elite Sidewinder will give more then a Competent Anaconda
07, great job cmdr!!
Did not realize that the powerplay system got updated in October. Was going to lament that i didnt know about this years ago when i was grinding for the uber shields or the bloodhound missiles but it wouldn't have mattered then lol
Sorry to be the one to break it to you - but I used to use the 'nav beacon trick' to rank up for Hudson back in the day.
Although - to be fair - I'd also end up with a pretty large power bounty too 😉
@@cmdrreggit exactly, I used to as Hudson for years as well. though it was still faster to trade merits.
Thanks for this, i love a bit of efficiency. I was following the old method and dropping out around 150km from nav beacons, the results were poor. When the servers are back up I'll try the greater distance in the systems I'm working and see if it makes any difference.
@zombi303 it does. I found 700ish to be the sweet spot above 650 below 900 gave me ne the best results. Less than 650, gave me allot of empty instances
This is doable and is not exploitive ... shall give it a try
Doing this in a Fortified (not Stronghold) system in my power's territory, I get friendly instances spawning every single time. Not one enemy power ship. Doing it in a rival controlled system got me the merits about one in three times and none the rest, even though they were affiliated with rival powers. Watched your video closely three times and I'm following your instructions exactly as far as I can see. Any idea why they might they not be spawning?
same here. Curious
gonna have to try this out. been doing bounty hunting, forcing the high res to spawn big ships by re-logging. getting upwards of 600-700 on elite condas and FDLs.
This method doesn't work.
Tried spawning new instances in my powers fortified system for an Hour... not 1 zilch edit so as for your power if they aren't combat focused then the spawn will be much much lower?
what type of engineering do you have on the cannons?
overcharged on all of them. oversize on three of the large, on large has thermal cascade. 1 medium has dispersal, and the other has dazzle
Thank you!!!
HA im like FFL ship, ive seen that before, but this helps thanks Headshot
@@GunKataWindyCity my cover is blown. Haha
Doesn't work for me. I went to three different fortified systems. All I got was friendlies.
Yeah same here, so I went to an undermining system, killed a few enemies and got slammed with bounties and fines.
im tryin this "create an instance" method, but nothing happened:( tried at 100, 200, 300.......900, but nobody spawned:S maybe "nerfed" or i forget something?:(
There's NO WAY this method's gonna last until next update. Definitely a bug.
Yep - this is buggy as all hell and definitely an exploit.
its been around for 6 plus years, and the payout in merits is on par with the other styles of game play. you can create instances like this with any POI. its the same with bounty hunting. you drop a couple hundred clicks away from the res site, then nothing but pirates. I would say people AFK farming merits in PG or solo is the real exploit.
Probably a dumb question: how did you kill those pilots without gaining a bounty on your head?
If you are in your power's territory ships from other powers will scan as Enemy and are legal targets. Not sure if this applies in enemy territory.
@MrDeatrich you are correct. And yes in enemy territory, you will gain a bounty
@@FFLN-b2c But no notoriety
Boutta say my old method for powerplay farming was going in to hostile systems, interdicting the power ships there and dealing with them before they could jump. Think my bounty got up to about 500k or so lmao
@@MrDeatrichoh my goodness! That makes such a difference for me! Thank you for the info 😊
2 gimbal and 4 fixed cannons, what engineering did you put on those
havent touched cannons in years haha
Probably high cap oversized
all overcharged. all large oversize, the medium are gimbled dazzle. there is a large shot speed difference between large and medium cannons. so I gimble the medium, so I don't have to aim at two different reticles
Nice video, great method, hate the title. Anything claiming "make x number of [thing] per hour" - it's entirely subject and skill and experience based.
@rockystar2102 true. Also the rng of the amount of ship spawns play a factor. Maybe I will title future ones "up to x per hour"
I have been playing system security simulator and killing power ship at a station, you only get a discharge fine.
thank you jefe
eh, you ready to squish some bugs on Thursday?
Doing this in an exploited system. I maybe get enemy Power ships once in every 6 drops.
it is not nurfed. if you are part of a non combat focused power, you get almost no enemy power ships
What to do with the merits?
you rank up and unlock rewards
Getting 0 merits doing it in a system with my powers stronghold carrier EDIT: I was in my powers capital...
are you in a fortified system, or a undermining system? sometime the servers are laggy, and you will get notifications later. if you are in unoccupied systems, you do not get merits from killing power ships.
@@FFLN-b2c I was in my powers stronghold system with at the nav beacon where a stronghold carrier was in system
@@8bitkefka make sure you are not in your powers capital. capitals cannot be fortified, or undermined, so you cannot earn merits there
@@FFLN-b2c That was it thank you
Thanks cmdr o7
