Man it feels good to return to the franchise that got me into vgm metal. The Timesplitters soundtrack is so unique that I never really know how I'm going to tackle it. At first glance, most of them don't really seem like they have potential for metal, but they all do. It's crazy.

@@Arathrum The Namco sound team around that time released a few cracking tunes! The PS1 (not arcade) version of Forest Law could be quite fun to work off, especially with the chorus / mid section.!

my pleasure! i've visited the soundtrack a couple of times and i'm afraid i have to give it a definitive nope. the entire soundtrack is very 'texture'-like and repetitive. it fits the game really well but it doesn't give me anything to work with. it's actually one of the very few soundtracks i've tried and failed several projects with

My son erased my TS1 save years ago - I even got the timed rewards for every Story mode level... I was pissed. It took me years but I'm playing again the original TS - going for platinum!
@@gregmoldovan5921I was definitely thinking of rerecording some old stuff but most of them are classics on their own by now. probably moving on to new themes and possibly future perfect. i've listened to some more of the soundtrack live and i may have skipped over some potential gems.

@@Arathrum I'm too old-skool to stream. Recording isn't my forte - otherwise I'd have guitar videos as well focusing on SNES and Final Fantasy music.
Hmm potential gems that you missed... me trying to beat Chinese in 6 minutes on hard mode: ooh what about Chinese?! Heck, every secret level and mapmaker tileset has their own song, I'll listen to them too!

LOVE THIS DUDE. Glad you're back in solid form - my only wish with this track is that if the rhythm guitars had a bit more high frequency action going on, they're sounding a bit flat on my end despite having a real meaty tone. Look forward to hearing your next track!
depends on the speakers, they sound fine here. had to eq most of it out due to clashing freqs with the synths/hats and the fact that i quad-track my rhythm section, with 2 leads on top. that's a lot of distortion and freq buildup
Yup, definitely on my end then - I really gotta upgrade my soundcard. Also, are you using DI for your guitars? If so, what sort of signal chain are you using to get that tone? It really feels like it has weight.
better to upgrade your speakers! yes i use DI and really a tonnn of processing, over 20 effects for rhythm alone, so eq's, gate/expanders, compressors, limiters, exciters, stereo imagers, de-essers, other multiband stuff, and then parallel busses. i could probably do with less but it's at a nice place that turns out to be relatively robust across projects
@@Arathrum I'd kill for you to do a video detailing your production process - I've been delving into more guitar orientated production lately & I've been struggling to get a guitar tone that doesn't sound like a mess.
Your stuff is super inspiring since my music has always had a timesplitters vibe to it and I'm a huge fan of metal guitars too, so it's awesome to hear stuff so similar in sound to mine get executed so well. Keep it up dude :)

Great job man. I'm about to do a project of these songs. Its always interesting to see how other musicians interpret transcriptions. That sci-fi vocal distortion instrument must have been hard to do on the guitar, not sure what Graeme used in the original recording but sure is otherworldly. Any chance you could do a metal cover of Scotland The Brave from Future Perfect?

virtual tileset maybe, scrapyard probably not, since it doesn't have much to work with, or at least musically expand upon without it being ' just' a remake
