Thank you! That's the best compliment we could ever get!
Hi, thanks for posting this. I was looking for any wind tunnel testing for jeeps and didnt find much. I am a jeep owner and I like to fly Old Glory on a pole connected to the hitch. What ive noticed is that when I fly my flag with the top and doors off on my jeep, the flag does not lift. At higher speeds it forcibly lifts but gets pushed down most of the time. At first I believed it was the air coming from the roof of the jeep but when I fly it with the roof off and only the doors on, it flies gracefully. When I fly the flag with the roof and doors on, it only flys well at higher speeds.
I think it might have to do with how the flow is coming off the front window and then how the flow from the sides rises up.
With the roof only and no doors, I think that the flow probably fairly horizontal. At lower speeds, it would likely just skip over a little, which starves the flag of decent flow.
With the doors on and no roof, there is probably air coming from around the sides of the car being directed upward, which then hits the flag and pushes it higher.
@@PremierAerodynamics Thanks for the input. I'm planning on trying a couple more combinations like, keeping the rear doors on without front doors and also attaching a hitch extender pushing the flag further from the spare tire. Thanks again
@@avalonblueprint The extender will probably be the best bet because that will put the flag into clean flow, so it will fly better in all configurations (except maybe not as well if you have the roof off and the doors on).
For having the front doors off and the rear doors on, I think that if there is no roof, then it should work pretty well still, not as well as when the both the front and rear doors are on because the air will come into the car (where the people are) and that will reduce the difference in pressures between the inside and outside of the car, and potentially not direct the flow upward as much. That is just my initial thoughts.
I'd be interested to see what you find.
@PremierAerodynamics the flag flys much better now with the extender in the, "roof and doors on," configuration. Once the weather improves I will test all other configurations.
@@avalonblueprint Sweet! I would be really interested to see what the results of the other configurations will be when you find out.
Drive slowly and u reduce drug, simple
Lol
Would be nice to have a more condensed version like you did for the model T or other cars.
There's a great video what I mean by sports where he reduced the drag on his daily driver to save fuel on long drives and improved it by 25% with simply modifications that aren't visible from the outside. Apart from mooncaps, a lowered suspension and removed roof rails.
With air shaper this would be very interesting
Thanks for the idea!
Thank you for presenting this.
You're welcome. And thanks for watching!
Interesting, thanks for this prof
You're welcome.
Could you do a video on a wagon?
Thanks for the idea! We will do one in the future.
Audi A4 b7 ultimate shape of wagon
For aerodynamics or for storing stuff?
Good one, @@PremierAerodynamics!
More simple; Just don't buy SUV.
Well, it depends on what your needs are. In an SUV, you can carry around more of your worldly possessions, so that's cool!
@@PremierAerodynamics MPV's were already interior space champions, with less drag. Don't need a fancy offroad suspension with giant wheels to haul big loads of stuff and passengers. Certainly not the millions of city commuters worldwide. And the really bad side effects of SUVs can also be traced back to production&recycling (simply more resources required). Also, they distort the market to such an extent that they are basically the cause of manufacturers phasing out the real sensible cars like the Honda Fit/Jazz; the absolute Master of maximum practical interior space within a small exterior footprint and frugal mileage. So while I commend your idea to streamline SUVs, we all know the real root problem here ( big heavy elephant on big wheels in the room).
@@knot3d_ That's all true. I really liked the Hondas. But I guess more people preferred SUVs which is why the market has pushed that way. For me, it was really surprising once supercar companies started making SUVs too.
@@knot3d_VW ID cars have these nice big wheels. As far as I understand, wide wheels drag, while tall wheels on a bike or horse carriage roll.
@@PremierAerodynamics No man, F1 car daily driver for max aero
I'm really interesting in this kind of topic but this format with your voice grates against my ability to follow. The literal mono=ton voice and simply reading words makes it impossible for me to follow. This is not a criticism but merely a note to say that there are those who would love to know more but need a different format. Do you have any suggestions on others who discuss the same topic but engage differently?
Thanks! You can get in touch with us via the email in our bio and send us an email about your needs and we can send you a quote for the service. Best regards.
If I wanted to read it I would read it. Blah blah blah.....
Then don't watch.
@PremierAerodynamics I didn't, it was bad. Like crappy lecture hall bad. Condense it down, reiterate the important points, only occasionally read from the source materials. Have you ever taught a class? Have you ever given presentations?
@@n5sdmNo thanks.
And yes, I have given lectures to hundreds of university students at all levels from undergrad to PhD. I routinely receive the highest (and equal highest) grading from these students for my lecturing.
@PremierAerodynamics I am sure...Stockholm syndrome.
@@n5sdmif you only care about the main point you miss the overall idea in other disciplines this may be fine In aerodynamic it will ruin your understanding. if you want simple I’m sure donuts media will be more up your ally (no hate the them it’s just a more simplified form)
