    I have both and feel like the Aqqa are quieter. They are also great for power outages as the Aqqa just continue to run.

    Dr. Novak I purchased this pump after watching your video and I agree , it is an excellent pump. I have mine in a 50 gallon tank and the power is very good. I find it to be very quiet as well. I like the intermittent feature that they have when the pump is not plugged into AC.

    I setup my 20 gallon long with a plenum; it has a male betta, 4 Julii corys (I'm going to add at least 2 more) and 2 mystery snails. I used Safe T Sorb and soaked some of it in iron fertilizer and put the soaked rocks near the bottom of the substrate. I have a plenum made from crafting fabric (the plastic grid full of holes). A 3/8 vinyl tube is attached in the back center of the plenum and an air tube is running down it, without an air stone, the airflow is controlled with a valve.
    I made the lift tube long enough to come out of the water so I could monitor the flow. It lifts about 1 teaspoon every second. I may turn it down even more, because there is no way the substrate is stagnant.
    My nitrates are still up, but hopefully the right bacteria will start growing soon.

    Every pump has flow rate usually liter per hour,what's the range for it for a successful plenum your way please ?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums 2 роки тому +1

      That's really hard to say. It's a question that has many variables in order to be answered correctly. How deep is your substrate? What kind of substrate are you using? What kind of lift tube are you using a 3/8" or a 1"? How tall is your lift tube? Are you using one plate or two plates for the bottom of your plenum aquarium? All these are variables that will determine if you need a little more air or a little less air pressure. You can always take a pump and turn the air down or bleed off excess air but you can't make a pump make more air if you don't have enough.

    I also have an eheim 400. I think it is good because you can adjust the air flow but it sounds and vibrates a lot. Would you be able to measure db on it as well? It may be worth dimensioning down if there is a big difference in volume

    What brand of hot glue would you consider aquarium safe and does it break down over time?

    Hello dr Novak!
    Is there a way to build plenum without air pump or any other circulation pump?

    With your 40 gallon fish tank, did you use an air stone for the plenum or did you just pipe the tube straight into the Lee’s filter. Thanks

      No I just use a bubbler that is designed for better Bowls. I have a video on how I did the Plenum and explain step-by-step how to make it.

      Just stick with in-vitro plants. its easier and cheapest way to prevent some unwanted stuff. If not possible to get invitro try to use potassium permanganate dip for bacteria. Hydrogen peroxide or glutaraldehyde (known as seachem excel) for algae. Hydrogen peroxide also kill bacteria and algae but also can damage plants, use it like foodgrade %3 or %5.

    When you took the Eheim off the table I was no longer interested. Seems like you are sponsored by AQQA. Your biggest fault is that nobody runs a pump without an air line attached. You don't pump air into the air...put air line onto these pumps and then you get the correct "sound from the pump" in use. I have watched and liked so many of your videos, but this is the worst of your videos I have watched. An open pump just pumping air is just a silly (I wanted to say stupid) presentation. If you did the same thing with a piston pump with no line attached, it would be at 100 decibels. What exactly was your point in this video? If you want sound from a pump in use, then put it in a use situation. Surprised at your presentation. You are better than this.

      I'm not sponsored or paid by anybody or any entity. The Ehiem was taken off the table as I explained it is a completely different pump and has different applications for aquariums that are very large. That pump is a very strong pump and is not in the same class as these little bitty hobbyist pumps as far as power or cost for that matter. That would be like me comparing a Toyota to a Mac truck. They both have their applications but they are meant for different purposes.

      For me, the vibration from the air pump is what's mainly contributing to the noise level. With most cheap air pumps, the vibration easily drowns out any sound of water aeration, bubbles etc
