Revisiting this reaction because why not and knowing they're already way past Marineford, I hope they did at least sear the name because dude literally seared two top tiers and medium rare'd both Jimbei and Luffy in one arc. His run was so legendary it would've been a rugpull if he didn't become the Fleet Admiral afterwards.
Everything from "I understand Robin's enemy very well" up through "Take me to sea with you!" is absolute peak One Piece.
And of course, we are all Franky 😭

They even butcher the translation here, having Luffy say he NOW understands her enemies, which is not the line as I remember it.
@@IcepickEvans This line gets translated all kinds of different ways, even though the literal translation is very simple. I think the trouble comes because "Wakatta" is past tense, so you could technically translate it as "I've understood her enemy very well" or "Robin's enemy is very well understood [by me]", but that's just being pedantic and overthinking; the use of past tense here is just a subtle difference in how the two languages express ideas and shouldn't be translated into English.
I still tear up to this almost 20 years later. The way she begs like a child to take her out to the sea!

This was the episode that solidified my love for OP. After knowing Robin's backstory, her screaming "I want to live" didn't just mean she didn't want to die, it also became a plea for help; to let her experience how it feels to truly live. This for me is one of best scenes in all of anime and I loved both of your reactions.

THIS!! THIS ARC!! THIS VERY PART!! Easily the best Arc in One Piece by far and cemented a moment in anime history forever. The burning of the flag and Robin shouting "I want to live! Take me to sea with you!" is legit one of the most historic moments of One Piece and probably the most iconic. It is also the very start of Luffy's journey to stand against the World Government, when in the past he only had run-ins with the marines and Shichibukai accidentally, now he had legit beef with the World Government by declaring war on them.
Oda is seriously trying to put hidden messages in his manga/anime about the real world we live in for sure. Its helped me wake up.

For some reason I don't think I cried as much as I probably should've in these episodes. The scene in these that I will always remember and is iconic to me is Luffy not giving a shit about who he's up against. I think Sanji's backstory hit me the most. Something about him giving up his pride, bowing his head to owner Zeff and genuinely thanking him for the his kindness just broke me.

If my memory serves right (Trying to be spoiler free, so let me know if I said anything out of line ), Aokiji is kind of like a code word. I’ve heard someone said that it means ‘Blue Pheasant’. Since I do know that ‘Aoi’ means blue. Important figures like him I think have a theme of having a Colour in their code names, coupled with an animal. I might be wrong though, but that’s what I know.
When a marine gets promoted to admiral they get a codename. Kuzan got the nickname "Aokiji".
Yes, this is right. Admirals are given a code name on their promotion to the rank, always in the pattern of "Color + Animal". And Aokiji does indeed mean "blue pheasant". This code name, along with the code names of the other two admirals (whose names I won't mention since they haven't been mentioned in-story yet) are taken from the Momotaro legend.

That Flag bruning and "I want to live!" moment is one of the best moment, in all anime, ever. The build-up leading the to this moment has been perfect.
And all the crew, even Nami, that usually complain when Luffy about to do something outrageous didn't even flinch at that moment really show how much they care for their crew.
Damn, if only Usopp where there, he'll be the one that Luffy ordered to shot down the flag, and at that moment he'll be taking a leap forward to his dream of becoming a 'Brave Adventurer'. It's such a shame really...
never really thought about the nami part. thats so true. shes usually one of the first to say no to such dangerous things, but she definitely knew this was something they had to do. it reminds me of when Vivi said that they have to cure Nami as fast as possible so they can get to Arabasta.
Still one of the best moments in One Piece.

Some people say that this is their favorite moment in the whole show… I like others more but it’s a valid point to say this and I’m not mad about it… it was just so emotional and I loved every second of it

Straw Hats declared war on World Government was really OP
I've been watching One Piece till the latest episode (1049) and I'm convinced that ENNIES LOBBY will always remain the most ICONIC Arc in One Piece. Them strawhats standing beside each other, shooting the WG Flag and declaring war just feels so revolutionary and I'm here for it 😂
Aokiji may be strong but he was only a vice admiral back then, which means there were others just as strong as him and maybe even stronger.

i always need to give kudos to rins voice actress in this scene. the "i want to live" is just such a ...visceral scream. it, together with nami screaming "arlong" while stabbing herself in the shoulder, ALWAYS makes me tear up immediately.

Knowing Robin's backstory explains her personality and behavior so well; this poor woman went through hell for over twenty damn years. Honestly? It's a testament to the towering strength of Robin's will and her sheer determination that she neither snapped and became the monster the world accused her of being, nor did she give up on living, until she finally had something more important to loose.
Fortunately for her, she met Luffy and the Straw Hats.
There's an important truth to Luffy, one that his enemies fail to recognize again and again:
Luffy doesn't care.
He welcomed Robin into his crew. He promised to be her friend. And if that means declaring war against the entire world, then the world can just bring it on. Luffy doesn't care one damn bit; he and his crew will get Robin back, to hell with the consequences.
Robins VA went all out for this episode, you feel the emotion and almost choking up midsentence go so hard, that it gets to me still after all this time
