Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allah, Heart purification doesn’t happen overnight. It is a journey. And it is a very long one. It requires sincerity, knowledge and a lot of patience. Al-Imam arifai said, “ عالجت نفسي 40 سنة حتى استقامت." Which means that this imam, who is closer to Allah SWT more than any of us, has tamed his nafs for 40 years to be healed. If it took him that long as a knowledgeable scholar who lived in a less corrupted environment, how long it should take us? Especially, when we live in a time of turmoils and distractions. Allahu almustaan. To help us immerse ourself in the practice of nafs healing, we need to have these lessons/reminders on a daily basis, not just during the month of Ramadan. I am so grateful to CMC for organizing this program during this blessed month and I hope this continues when Ramadan is over. There are people, like Eckhart Tolle , who tackle these issues, but I find that his approach is missing the core of all this practice of ‘self healing’. When the notion of Allah is missing, everything else becomes void and meaningless. Knowing Allah is the gateway to knowing one’s self. And maintaining that relationship through assalat (الصلة مع الله) and other ibadat is what will keep our heart centred and our self grounded. Your lectures and the lectures of our brother Abdul Hakim are very uplifting. Our ummah is in a dire need of this type of teaching. May Allah bless all of your deeds. Wassalamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allah.

    i have two questions.
    1. If you have these dark spots either from trauma or regrets or other tribulations what is the best way to start "cleansing" your self. What are ways to deal with those issues and put them to rest to we can get closer to Allah swt.
    2. What are some Imam Al Ghazzali books we can get to help us in this journey?(translation in English pls)

I apologise if this is not what you're looking for, but I have heard a lot of praise for a popular and helpful book named 'Don't Be Sad' by Sh. Aid al-Qarni. It is one to read in short bursts, regularly, for an īmāan and mood boost, ranging from releasing regrets and worries, focussing upon what matters in this short life and implementing psychology tips based on Islamic sources.

May Allah grant us comfort in His remembrance and allow us to do the work up on ourselves so that He will change our condition for the better, Ameen.

    Salaams,
    Great presentation, MashaAllah.
The spiritual blockages, sounds almost Ike the physical blockages of coronary arteries needing a bypass.

Should psychological baggage be primarily targetted through spiritual knowledge? You seem to suggest that all of our internal problems stem from the nafs, but what about dysfunctional thinking patterns that are deeply rooted and that seem to stand apart from our level of imaan? Could seeking psychological treatment in this case count towards 'working on oneself' spiritually?

If we know we have problems in certain relationships is it spiritual bypassing if we don’t try to improve it but rather avoid that relationship altogether?

Dear Abdallah, can you help us with us tools/ practices that can help us go 'Through' these realities to overcome and remove them from our hearts. For instance, i have been able to identify an act which i know is disliked by Allaw SWT even before comitting it, but somewhere in my heart i know that i have given into it even before acting on it and quite confident that i will do it, is there a remedy/ effective method i can use at this very brief moment to change my heart, for in this moment we give into our nafs al ammara bil su although otherwise we are always aware that Allah SWT is always watching us and aware of what is in our hearts.
How to change what is in our hearts?
Very beautiful session, Thank you :) JazakAllah Khair

Selaam alaykum, first of all I love your videos and find them very beneficial. But to do all these things like cleansing of the heart etc , don't we need a guide- a shaykh - to help us in this journey to illimunation ? Can we do all these things just on our own ? I am sorry the answer of this question is given in session 11.
