Hi Mary Jane, I enjoy these videos where you go hiking on the mountains, and I encourage you to do others. I go on the mountains since many years, I'm a member of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), I travel on the mountains both by feet and with my mountain bike. I'd recommend you to complete your equipment with a couple of mountain sticks: they help you up hill, they help you down hill (by preserving your knees), they provide stability in slippery portions of the tracks, they let you walk safely in difficult passages. I noticed that your dad (who looks like an experienced mountain hiker) uses them. You or other people with you should also have first aid stuff, just in case of a small accident. Have fun on the mountains!
Hi thanks for the suggestion you're totally right about the sticks. I believe my dad started using them at a late age, after he realized his knees were ruined. Now I try to bring them with me, although I must say that I very often forget. I should pay more attention. What would you recommend to bring in a first aid kid? I know it should be a very basic knowledge but everyone talks about a "first aid kit" without specifying how to prepare one 🤷♀️ And lastly thank you for being a member of CAI. You guys take care of these beautiful paths that we use and I'm very grateful for that.
@@WhatashameMaryJane Hi, I can tell you what I keep in my first aid kit: band-aids, a roll of sterilized bandage, some tissues moistened with desinfectant solution (these usually come into small sealed plastic bags and you can find them in any supermarket), a pair of small scissors, a pair of disposable plastic gloves, a hemostatic lace (I hope to never have to use it, but I prefer to bring it in my backpack), a pair of small tweezers (they may be useful to remove thorns from your feet, just in case). Put all this stuff into a bag or a small container, so you have them ready in case of need, instead of breathlessly looking for them into the backback. In most supermarkets there are first aid kits ready for sale, at a low price. Also very useful is a small container of pressurized gas (usually a mixture of propane and butane) which, when sprayed on your skin, quickly evaporate and refrigerate your skin. This tool is very useful in case you hit one of your knees and it swells: cooling is the perfect therapy in this case. The container is small and weighs little. Then in this Covid19 age I also bring with me a small bottle of hydro-alcoholic solution, to sanitize my hands. Then I strongly suggest you to download the Flag Mii app on your cell phone; it is free and it may be vital in case of an accident, because it's able not only to send an emergency call to the police or the Red Cross, but also to localize you and to inform the rescue crew about your exact position (visit this site: it.flagmii.it/). Changing subject, it may be interesting for you to know that, when I was a young mechanical engineer working on European space projects (I'm retired now) I spent one year as customer representative in an aerospace firm in Windsor Locks, Conn. This is a small town and there is little to do but working, so I usually spent the weekends in NYC or in Boston, Mass. That's why I enjoy your videos from the Big Apple! I also visited part of New England, and Niagara Falls in the New York state. That was also an excellent opportunity for me to definitely learn and improve my English, which at that time was, so to speak, scholastic. So I'm glad that I found your channel on UA-cam, I like to see your videos and listen to yor excellent English-American speech. I wish you a quick and full recovery from the Covid19 disease. If it might help: my dad never spends an entire day indoors, if he can, doesn’t take elevators or escalators, he never did sports in his entire life, but he enjoyed going to work by bike and walk. He’s the one who washes the dishes every day, hangs the laundry to dry and when someone asks “can you pass me something” he’s the first one to stand up. Maybe it’s a good example to follow...
Wow! What a fantastic short walk with unbelievable views, makes the Lake District near where I live look like toytown(but still beautiful) will put this on my list to do. Thanks! Yes it's actually a very good spot for paragliding and often you can see them starting off from the top of the ski slope right below the houses. That makes for a good show :)
World of Travels You’re American so you need to fly to an airport first, could be Venice or Lubjana or Triest. Then you have buses to get to Udine and then there are trains or buses to get to Camporosso, where the start of the hike is. It takes between one and two hours from Udine, it’s 90 km. Nice and sunny is during the summer months and I would suggest June or July (hot in July) because August is the holiday month in Italy so it gets crowded.
Ero a Monte Lussari, proprio in quei giorni.

Hi Joel. People actually live and work there, but the entire economy of the little place is based on tourism of course. There are no places like that, it's very unique, at least in this region.
@DENVEROUTDOORMAN you're right. That place is not very high but we have high mountains also in Italy. Not too far from there are the beautiful Dolomites, where the highest peak exceeds 10950 feets, in my Lombardy the highest peak is 13110 feets but we have the highest Alps in Val d'Aosta, where several peaks exceed 15000 feets, as Monte Rosa, Cervino and Bianco.
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN @denveroutdoorman, no, we don't. Luckily in this context Rocky Mountains win great! 😉 On the Alps there're only a few wolves, bears, vipers and even less lynxes; most of them living below 6500 ft, where the woods are. Until now I've only come across chamois, ibexes and vipers, which is fortunate since in Italy weapons are prohibited and the only defense I had with me was my mountain poles and my Vittorinox 🙏😊
@@barbi3680 well we have the 4 I mentioned plus bighorn sheep mountain goats ...lots of Elk and deer. Most of the city of Denver is flat but it's at the start of the lower Mts we call foothills and there is mountain biking tubing on the rivers as well as mountain climbing and ziplines hiking backpacking and believe it or not google the Colorado sand dunes...sand deposited in one area with a stream running through and Mountain views....We have ghost towns and Gold mine tours
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN It sounds very interesting. I came in Colorado 10 y. a. but I headed straight for Utah so I could only admire its beautiful mountains from the car window. I would have liked to go hiking up there. I was enrolled in the CAI(Italian Alpine Club), could you tell me if there are associations like that in Colorado or in all the US to lean on or register to take mountain trips ? I looked them up online last year but I didn’t find anything like that, only tours organized by private associations.

The surrounding region of Doris has some great mountain trails. I just subscribed to your wonderful channel - discovered it yesterday from watching the New York video, “Native Italian eats spaghetti with meatballs...” 😂 on your friend’s channel. I’m glad I did, so I can travel the world with the best of guides! I wish you many-many more explorations. Buon Anno 🎉 e ciao dalla Grecia! 🇬🇷
... I watched this video and I'm making this comment with tears in my eyes. My dad just passed away at age 72 earlier this week. In fact I have been watching your videos for the past couple weeks as an "escape" while my dad was in the hospital. So thank you for that. My dad smoked all his life, drank too much, didn't get exercise, and didn't eat well, and it all caught up with him very suddenly. Your videos have been an inspiration to me. You often talk about eating healthy in your videos, and when you are shopping in grocery stores in your travels you only show healthy whole foods. Watching those videos while seeing what happened to my dad has been a huge kick in my butt to change my own bad eating habits. I want to encourage you to do more of that in your videos because a lot of people need to learn more about eating healthy. I also want to say thank you to your dad for taking such good care of himself that he could do this amazing hike with you at his age. He's awesome and you're awesome.
I read this comment with tears in my eyes. Your dad taught you a huge lesson. You give me motivation to keep talking about these topics on the channel. Thanks for sharing this. Take care of yourself ❤

One wonders why in the world you wanted to go to NY, not that there aren't more realistic places in the USA more comparative to your wonderful Friuli upbringing...maybe Aspen or Lake Tahoe. @@WhatashameMaryJane Maybe in one of your future videos we will see you there. Have a nice day or night ;)
Wow! What a view!
I can relate to your dad MJ. I hiked the Swiss alps in May 2018. At 63 yrs old! I am a runner swimmer and biker too. Stay active.
Well done!
Another great video! I was wondering why there wasn't anyone flying paragliders, since it looks like a great place to do it... then I spotted one (15:12)!f
Papa is a champ, btw! And a good cinematographer also :D
Thanks! Yes it's actually a very good spot for paragliding and often you can see them starting off from the top of the ski slope right below the houses. That makes for a good show :)
Bellissimo!!! Sta mi ben e mandi da Toronto Canada.
I love this video so much. Please make more videos like this one. You truly inspired me to go there. Please provide the information.
Ask me more specific questions
@@WhatashameMaryJane how do you get there? How long does it take? I want to go when the weather is nice and warm and sunny.
@@WhatashameMaryJane this will be very helpful traveling there.
Awesome journey!
😱such a nice weather up there! That is definitely the kind of lifestyle a long to live pretty soon 😎🙂hikers 💪🏻
Wow. Thank you.
Bravo!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It looks a bit like upstate NY. Google Mohonk Mountian House. Il mio posto preferito per un lungo weekend.
Adoro Italia. Adoro i tuoi video

Love it, thank you !
😊
Love this!
Such a beautiful video. Your channel is so underrated.
Thank you 🙏
Ero a Monte Lussari, proprio in quei giorni.
have you noticed that rock in middle of crater with the few snow lasting? the one u sit over. looks different btween others, looks like a meteorite. then notice from town from bottom view that looks like an eroded crater. don't?
if u know any geologist can confirm i guess u'll find a nice story to tell...just an idea
16:53 half crater
Wau ! wau .. you are a climber !

Che bella la scena del libro... e la firma....🙂
Great view from beginning to end, being a city guy with no concept of outdoor activities (nor interest in doing) I an still amazed with Nature, I see your dad had (what I think are) ski poles which seemed like a good idea. Then as you dad said sixty years ago that area had snow. Now none, Climate Change at work. Your Lucky, your family allows you to be the Wild & Crazy one. I'm smiling again. I love your family.
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed Dennis :)
Reminds of my favorite place Oberbozen, but maybe nicer.
I don't know it

Question: "Mary Jane, why go up the mountain?" ... Mary Jane answers: "Because it's there!" Great video!
That's a good answer 😉

I have family in Colorado and boy does this make me miss Colorado. Hopefully the COVID subsides and we can get out there again soon. Those look like some nice ski runs there too. What is the ski area called?
It's called Tarvisio, which is the name of the biggest town in the area
beautiful friuli
That's is very interesting town do people live and work there or is is set up for tourist to visit? Is there meny towns like that?
Hi Joel. People actually live and work there, but the entire economy of the little place is based on tourism of course. There are no places like that, it's very unique, at least in this region.
You have got lovely taste in music
Thanks :)
Watching again...:) :) :)
Ah that's great! I'm so pleased that you like my video that much :)
Fuarce Udin (Friulano keyboard's missing)
Ahahah mitico!!
Gonna miss the green mountains in this fall😭
Right. But fall brings gorgeous colorful mountains 🍂🍁🍂
Awesome views!
Where is this place? Which month would be the best time to visit? Is it a tour?
Tarvisio. The period depends on what you’re looking for
In Colorado our mountains reach 14000 feet
@DENVEROUTDOORMAN you're right. That place is not very high but we have high mountains also in Italy.
Not too far from there are the beautiful Dolomites,
where the highest peak exceeds 10950 feets, in my Lombardy the highest peak is 13110 feets but we have the highest Alps in Val d'Aosta, where several peaks exceed 15000 feets, as Monte Rosa, Cervino and Bianco.
@@barbi3680 I know just kidding...dont know if you have many mountain lions coyotes bears or rattlesnakes
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN @denveroutdoorman, no, we don't. Luckily in this context Rocky Mountains win great! 😉
On the Alps there're only a few wolves, bears, vipers and even less lynxes; most of them living below 6500 ft, where the woods are.
Grande Paolo ✌️😁
Ahahah 😂😂

You're just lovely 😍

Wow, that Austrian resort is full of Italians!
Which Austrian resort?
What a shame Mary Jane - I was, of course, only joking. 😀 🙃 It’s just that the whole place has such a Tyrolean feel...Monte Lussari - Tarvisio looks spectacular, and Cima Cacciatore is absolutely breathtaking! I’m a hiker myself, so I very much enjoyed your climbing adventure with your dad. My ancestral village is near Mount Parnassus, near Delphi - the ancient Oracle of Apollo, in Central Greece.
Take care of yourself ❤
wow, beautiful, So there is a bit of a spill over of Austrian culture there?
That whole area was Austria in the past century
Brava continua così :)

How many generations are your ancestors in Italy? Are any of your ancestors from Eastern Europe, like Poland or further east?
Till my great grandparents, they were all not only from Italy, but from the same region were I was born and grew up in, which is the one where this video was shot.
What a shame Mary Jane - Very nice. You have attractive face and lighter color eyes like many east Euro women. Just wondering. Thank you for videos and info.
looking at map of Tarvisio and proximity to Slovenia I guess I am sort of right. We have many Sicilians in USA from Italy so most brown hair brown eyes.
While watching this, I just happened to be cutting an apple with a Swiss Army knife when the scene came on where your dad was doing exactly the same. That was certainly a bizarre coincidence.
You have the largest wallet I have ever seen for a man or woman. 🤣 Are you carrying a small encyclopedia in there. Tell your Pop I said ,”ha fatto un buon lavoro nel sollevarti.” Mi piace vedere la campagna lì. Grazie
Ahah Id like to know what kind of women you've met, because I've never met a woman with a wallet as small as mine! Thanks for the comment Jason :)
@@WhatashameMaryJane So I took some time to query the females in my life all the way from my 95 year old nonna all the way down to my cousin's daughters... it's a good 22 ladies. And I was chastised by all of them for asking about a woman's pocket book! But, I tried to say that you called it a wallet, and my aunt nearly hit me... :) so I apologize profusely for asking about a woman's pocket book... I mean wallet. But if I'm ever on a hike, I want you for my hiking buddy, because I think you have the best deterrent for aggressive wildlife stashed in your bag.
One wonders why in the world you wanted to go to NY, not that there aren't more realistic places in the USA more comparative to your wonderful Friuli upbringing...maybe Aspen or Lake Tahoe. But perhaps you needed to experience a complete change to understand how you'd really like to live one day. America will never be Europe unfortunately, it's always about the money and rarely about the quality of life that most Europeans enjoy. But that was programmed by the powers that be and have been since it's inception.
Ho vissuto nel Veneto per 22 anni, mi manca molto il ritmo della vita nel nord d'Italia e lórgoglio (well deserved) delle persone di ogni regione attorno gli Alpi e pre Alpi! Viva lÍtalia!
Dove vivi ora, invece?
