I remember the play “Our Town”(by Thornton Wilder) at the “Mannequin” theater in Chelyabinsk (USSR) in 1984. The main melody was Bach's Air. It was the feeling of instantness and infinity, life and death, love and sadness
My husband and I were going to renew our vows on our 10th anniversary, we wanted this playing in the background. He died 1.5 months prior. Love you always babe.
May be the most beautiful piece of music ever written. So touching. That other cultures admire and perform this piece with such feeling is a testament to the universal, transcendent, and undying genius of Mr. Bach.
Listening to this just now, in fond remembrance of my dear friend Paul Conlon, who passed away suddenly just a few days ago. This was one of his great favourites, and he shared it on Facebook for his friends to visit and enjoy.
Easily one of the all-time best recordings of Bach. I wish I could buy this on iTunes. Thank you - all of you amazingly talented musicians and producers in this video - for your gift to the world. You are blessed and your soul is expressed in your beautiful music and presentation.
This song is God on earth!!! Never an atheist could create a song like that, because the main ingredient to creat a such song is believe that God exist.
Except for the acoustics of the space in which they played, this was about the most perfect version of this piece I've ever heard. Pace almost perfect. It seems almost impossible to find where enough rest marks are inserted where required. Evidently what is required is some conductor at the harpsichord with enough emotional maturity and sensitivity they can type the measure appropriately according to the impact of the mood conveyed by the theme at that point or another. Not math but reading.
hmm I guess you have trained ears. I do hear some background noise in some (very few actually) parts, but other than that, I really like this performance.
"Not "Brook" (in German:Bach), but "sea" should he be called." -Ludwig van Beethoven- "Bach is the beginning and end of music" Max Reger "Study Bach, there you'll find everything." Johannes Brahms "The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul." J.S Bach
@that conversation in the comments- Bach was a Lutheran (the original Protestants) but he did write a Catholic mass for some reason, I don't think you can assume he had a problem with the pope?
If Bach is atheist He composed several song in honor of God...one out of two or Bach is hyprocrit or you a liar...and I repeat a atheist never could compose a song like that because atheist don't believe in soul and a soul is needed to compose it...
This music cries ...
I heard many performances, but when i saw the title in japanese I knew I had come to the right place.

Why and how do you find something wrong with the acoustics of the space in which they played?
@1:00 one badass dude is playing with a neck brace!

Guess its called Bartok pizzicato, but I'm not sure...
О благоговении

Good music! But some light missing on them!!
"just in case",bro.. just in case. lol
why are those to the right holding their bow when they play pizzicato throughout the entire song?
This is not on G string.

Nice. but I've never seen an arrangement with a harp... strange.
