Your videos are inspirational! I am basically a senior citizen and after watching this video, even I feel like I should try to get into grad school.

Everything is so concise and perfect! Your all videos are really very informative, free from any sort of distractions & clean resolution. Your all videos answers some of the questions which a student might have in their mind before applying for grad school. I had made a separate playlist to save your videos to watch later. So you can guess how much informative they are. Please do make a video on doing research at undergrad level. How much it can help somebody while applying to grad school? Also what's a good GPA near you which somebody must have for getting into good school?

I think GPA does matter quite a bit for grad school admissions. More than it matters for undergrad admissions, for sure. I’d love to make a video on undergrad research. I’ll have to think of an effective way to discuss it. I don’t think it matters much in applying to grad school unless you’ve actually gotten some publications out of it. Otherwise, I think admissions committees don’t really consider it to be significant research experience. Thanks for the nice comment 🥰

We need to Thank all the women (and some man) who paved the way for women to get in, -stay-, and succeed in engineering. Women in engineering normally do not get the bond and camaraderie (which helps in more ways than one realizes) that men get. I am glad you appreciate the extra hand you have been given as a woman, but you also worked very hard to deserve it!

Hi there. Many thanks for this video, it`s really helpful. I am a Kenyan applying to graduate school in USA. I am considering the Material Science and Eng program to work on energy storage most likely lithium ion batteries. How does the admission committees look at applicants from a background as mine given we have unique challenges like my GPA can be low for reasons beyond me e.g the lecturer didn`t mark your exam, or some CAT marks got lost etc. I don`t have undergraduate research publications (it`s very uncommon here) but I have published work for clients as a Consultant in the energy space. Does that count?

Could you elaborate on research experience a bit more? Does it count to anything if I have my names on papers that will be published in an IEEE journal?

How do you recommend going about contacting potential advisors? Is it generally a good idea to contact them well before your application and try to develop a rapport? Or rather to just ask if they have openings?

Just curious, was Prof Bovik one of your recommenders? I graduated from UT ECE last year, decided to go for an MS a few and he agreed to write me a letter! Currently applying right now

He was; also was my advisor. Good luck with your applications!

    Hi
Thanks for the video, I am currently a student in Mechanical Engineering. I wanted to do my master's in electrical simply because the research topics in the electrical engineering department of my University interest me more. I was wondering how common it is for people with BS in ME to go into EE. I do enjoy both EE and ME, and understand the course material in both well. Thanks in Advance

Quite common actually! I personally know a couple of people who have done it. Sounds like you know what interests you, so go for it :)

Thank you for such a wonderful video. I've seen women in engineering complain about their male peers and the industry even though their peers were far nicer and kinder to them than to their male colleagues. You honesty is simply admirable
