Taryl your a real range rider keep up the sweet smile
I've always wondered how to fix these, thanks taryl
I just about die every time he does the mocking female voice. The best!
Worked like a charm. Thanks so much for your help.
Nice appetizer Taryl, I'm gettin' hungry for Sunday breakfast.
Thanks 😊 Taryl! I messed with my lawnmower gas cap before trying to make it tighter. I went to the hardware store and found a 32 by 3mm O ring. It fits nice and tight now! No more dirt sticking to the filler neck from gas seepage.I guess the manufacturers use the symbols because they don’t want to print out different languages.
Just an update, I went to take off that gas cap today and it was really on there! I put a little oil around it before I put it back on. I guess it will take a while to wear-in a little to loosen up some.
The symbols are a different language in themselves. Cavemen native Americans and those who lived in biblical times used symbols. We're still trying to understand what they were saying.
Taryl Fixes All
it takes a little common sense that sadly most dnt have these days love the helpful videos budd
I also have a harbor freight O ring kit. I only need it about once a year, but it comes in so handy not to have to make a trip to the store. Best 10 bucks I ever spent..You Rock Taryl...!.😎
Used to work at Ford Aerospace, a road warrior servicing their employees computer gear. After you've done a fantastic job they say we like this guy we're gonna give him a promotion, but its not the type where you get more loot, its horizontal promotion where you service executives gear that never breaks. All the best fixit people are squirreled away in garden level cubicles.
They put me in the dealer support group, the guys who say 'if you want the stiffest leaf springs they come on the base model, because they know the people who buy a luxury truck are only hauling groceries. All I did was read technical service manuals all day, the 8" thick ones w/ 100's of rice paper thick pages, technical porn! You know there's a special tool for that operation!
The more of the Dactyl family productions i get to watch - the happier and more educated i am. That is a fact and i am thankful to all of them. I have grown to feel like they are part of my family. Just start calling me Larry Dactyl!!
Great video Totally agree about the stickers so many people get confused with those things I have so many people asking me what they mean
I had such a bad mood but since 5:41🤣👍thanks for this!
Good information Taryl. I recently found a lost tractor gas cap when I jerked off my deck. So there's another PSA. If you loose a cap, check your deck!
Good morning from Piqua Ohio. Keep up the great videos.
Great fix. I ran into that once , I just put a rubber band on it in lew of a o ring as a temp fix knowing rubber band would need replacement in the future
Hi Taryl.....I LOVE your channel, VERY informative. I have a somewhat different 'gas cap' concern, not sure if it's working right or not. Yesterday I was mowing, and after an hour or so my mower (Great Dane Chariot) began surging each time I'd hit a minor bump. After several minutes of this, I finally thought I'd check to make sure I had adequate fuel in the 8 gallon tank. When I opened the cap a great deal of pressure was released (I could actually see the plastic tank deflate!). The mower began running smoothly immediately. Once I finished mowing (loosening and tightening the cap occasionally), I inspected the cap, took a nasal aspirator and was able to determine the cap would allow air in, but I was not able to blow any air through the vent hole from the inside out. Are these caps designed for one way air flow only, or should the cap release pressure after it builds to a certain point inside the tank?? Thanks in advance for your response, much appreciated!
Awesome Taryl
Love that Nitrile Brand.
i have a cfc 18 simplicity mower wheel steer with an m18 twin kohler...fuel pump is now leaking...does not look like fun to change,,,have you ever did one??
Thanks Tirrel. My gas tank cap working better than new.
I got the Hazard Fraught Oring set, I also got a million piece green set from Amazon, but EVERY TIME i need an Oring i never can find the right size. When i find the right diameter the thickness is either too thick or too thin.
Pressure washer wand, intake seal, air compressor wind up hose reel, always the wrong size.
I also love how Taryl does such a great job imitating our voices! always dead on! Always knows what we're thinking!
Great information Taryl
Harbor Freight is opening in my town. Can’t wait.
Excellent
Nice fix
A guy walked into an auto parts store and asked ''How about a gas cap for a Yugo?''. The parts man though about it and said ''OK. That sounds fair''.
@@shawnwest3779. I'm no spring chicken. But I have no clue what you guys are talking about.
A replacement 32 mm o-ring from McMaster Carr did the trick. No more leaking gas. Thanks
Used to work for shop. Would pick up/deliver lawn tractors sometimes. Incredible how many times I got asked “how’d you get that mower to keep running when you stood up?” Sometimes the customer would’ve had the mower for 15 years and not know about the parking brake.
It's 9-7-21. Don't forget to start the indoor and outdoor engines and check inside the carbs. Still hanging with you on this experiment.
Tanks alot. Good hack. Easy, cheap. O-ring kit from HF - easy-cheap fix. Thanks for the video.
Still haven't figured out how to adj. cutting height on that Ariens rider. They speak of the cutting height adjustment but its just the "pitch" adj. called by another name, then they say you set your cutting height by setting "the lever". The pitch is fine, and an important adj., in theory your blades are only in contact with the uncut grass 50% of the time when angled downward, 50% duty cycle means reserve power, and in addition, with the back of the blades being higher it provides a second bite or mulching, that allows for more throw out the deck side chute and less clumping
Good hack Taryl.
Nice shoes. Where did you get those? What brand?
Symbol interpretation class would make a fun video. Back to school theme. Bring back that grandson with the braces....lol
what about the gas cap seal on a predator engine? looks like a flat rubber washer, i got one , the cap has metal locking tabs for the metal tank.
My wife's Chrysler Pacifica has so many symbols you have to get the owner manuals out to decipher what they mean once again Tayrl you got it right
I had a Lady ask me how to disassemble the thingie that would cut you in half , I was kinda confused 🤔 An said I need you show me this - it was the dang shoulder / seat belt lite
Fire it up.
Fire it up.
Fire it up.
Hahahaha.
Good o'ring ideas.
Thank you!!
They had to go to symbology because someone went into an auto parts store and asked for a part that had 710 on it. Salesman couldn't find one but did have a part with OIL on it. He told the customer that it will work if you put it on upside down.
Well, that.....CAPS off another Taryl fixes all video for today!
Grass Rats YOW
Thx taryl
Two O rings are gonna make it to hard to remove!! Lol 😂 just kidding mr Dactal
The Elmer Fudd “laugh” never gets old
Harbor Fright - Where tools are meant to last a lunchtime!
I had bought two old John Deere 212 & 214 garden tractors where the previous owners had put in LED lights, but the deflectors made the light going up, rendering it useless. I had to flip the deflectors upside down to fix it.
Maybe this topic could make a good LED light hack video.
I read somewhere that the symbols were supposed to take the place of written instructions (ie. on/off switches, crosswalks, etc.) because they are more intuitive and easier to understand. They also make it easier for people who have 1st or 2nd grade reading skills. That might include a lot of high school graduates.
More like companies are cheap and don't want to have a machine set to stamp "No E85" in a dozen different languages.
Nice sneakers
Right on with those symbols. I look at my blower and the choke symbol and have no idea which is which.
I just figure when I shut it down last the choke was off so the other way is on.
taryl what does the switch that says on/off on my weedeater do?
Thanks
Exactly! Read the manual 👍🏻
Great tip for those leaking caps. I hate those things, they should use better ones.
Can you make a video on the new button code ignition switches?
Taryl, not criticism, but Viton is the composition of the O ring, not the brand. I has to do with resistance to certain chemicals. They are often used in pump sprayers.
Some people probably don't even know what the the bunny and turtle labels stand for
Why should we? Put decals that say Fast......Slow.
Pretty simple, worked forever. If they want to sell a product in some foreign country, paste on a three cent decal in their language. I don't speak rabbitease or turtletongue.
@@mark-wn5ek People who can not speak rabbitease or turtletongue should stay away from machinery. It is spoken in so many places worldwide.
@@donaldeisenbarth5255 yeah and so is English. If you can't speak English, maybe you should stick with Ugh.....or Oooo...and on-ga-wha!
👍
BTW the new Chinese knock-off gas cap I bought for mine had the E-85 symbol stamped backwards LOL! I guess they didn’t get the memo about the image reversing when you stamp a copy of it.
I went to to my hardware store looking for a cotter key assortment. The kid there did not know what an "assortment" was. Didn't know that word lol.
At the same time, I do not like buying a kit of stuff I will never use for one o-ring...... Hooray for the stocked hardware store!
Good tip mate love it when your playing with your ring lol
Didnt know you could use viton, i thought it had to be buna, so good to know..
I have a total pushmore and I did the same thing. My gas cap is still be leaking cause vapor lock. Or does the whole gas cap have to be replaced? If it vapor locks, it starts when it's cold, but when it's warmed up, it shuts off and dies is that caused by vapor lock.🚍🚞🚞
Yeah, I'm sure people are mistaken by the label. I would never put E-85 in the lawnmower. I can get away with using 10 % ethanol but it better to use unleaded ethanol free. Thanks Taryl.
Can you do a video on repairing that Briggs pressure washer when it won’t spray right, like a pump rebuild?
While working on a Craftsman YT3000 this summer, I downloaded the manual and it stated in strong terms to NEVER back up while the blades were engaged. LMAO. HTF do they expect you to mow around obstacles then? Obviously done for 'insurance reasons' and to dummy proof their machine. Then they point out that if you really really want to mow in reverse, you turn the key switch back one notch, which is the stupidest 'safety feature' ever IMO.
Getting a manual with anything used is rare.
Although I have seen the manual of a 1957 Chevy still in the glove box. And on the same note I’ve seen people get the manual out and thumb through it and throw it in the trash saying who reads this stuff. 🤪
I new a guy that lost his Motorola flip phone while snow blowing the driveway. When the snow finally melted in the spring he found it waaaay across the front yard. Charged the battery and it still worked.
Those old phones were built like tanks.
Taryl, can you take these caps apart to clean them so they vent?
Some lawn mowers old lawn mowers don't have parking brakes
Cool
The HF o ring set saved me when i had the hydraulics apart on my Bolens Iseki G192. Also make cheap nonconductive wedding bands. Wife is always irked that i wont wear the metal one. Almost got electrocuted once. Dear, dont I LOOK married??
Modern briggs mower engines have the same issue with cheap leaking gas caps but use a flat gasket instead of an o-ring. Just like Taryl said they don't sell the gasket just the entire gas cap that's ridiculously overpriced. I just bought a Honda mower and the gas cap itself is much higher quality.
You can always take the flat gasket off and use o-rings instead. Taryl did a video on that a couple of years ago.
I think Viton is a brand name?
If I remember correctly the Viton O'rings are brown in color (not black).
Viton O'ring are good for high temperature applications.
I used a Viton o'ring on my Triumph motorcycle & still not leaking after 30 years, standard o'rings get brittle, due to heat.
I remember reading that Viton o'rings are soft & not good to use on pistons, due to they will wear faster.
You used Vinton 5 times in 5 sentences. Just wanted to point that out.
@@cravenmoorehead5636
Its Viton not Vinton.
What is your point?
My point is the Viton seals worked great on my Motorcycle.
Or make an O-ring if you don't have one that will fit. AvE has a video on it using acetone and superglue.
why did they not use screw on gas caps like the old ones have to do same thing on toro time master.
Worked as a GM tech for years. Had an older lady bought a new car and was afraid to drive it because a red symbol of a man holding a shotgun was on her cluster and she thought someone would shoot her.
It was the buckle seat belt reminder light.
I like the double up trick. I'll try that. My cap falls off when I cut around bushes.
Love the videos thanks for sharing buddy
I bought my rider from the couple I bought my house from. For several years, I didn't realize that you could set the parking brake to keep the mower running. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know what that little lever was for.
i have used the rubber bands they wrap around the celery at the grocery store
Ran over the gas cap 🤣
But Taryl!? Failed O-rings are why the Space Shuttle blew up! MMM o-rings, onion rings mmmm
I agree🛩🚘🚘
This video spoiled my dinner😜
Nice.
If people actually gave a crap, I'm pretty sure the owner's manuals are all online in pdfs, you can print out your own owners manual.....
Shouldn’t all manufacturers just mandate a sub to Taryl Fixes All before they can operate the consumer product? FFS! There are too many gaddam fkn idiots in this world. Everything was copacetic with Darwin until Mr. friggin safety got involved back in the early 70’s. Now just look at the friggin mess our country is in. FFS PEOPLE!!! Get your head out of your a ss es. We are all screwed at this point.
We are regressing back to hieroglyphics thanks to apple phones .
I buy most everything used and download the manual off the web.
lots of those cheap O rings are crap. a tip, only buy green O rings for air-conditioning. they work for everything well
I flippin’ HATE that new style Briggs gas cap. I’ve got one on my TimeMaster and it was always coming loose and spewing out gas. I tried new fatter O rings, tried a new cap, nothing helped. I finally put a thin clear seal the width of the cap on the bottom of it and it works perfectly. I think the plastic on the tank is worn thin on mine ‘cause nothing helped. What a stooopid design, the old cap was fine and didn’t need improving! Not a lot to love about those newBriggs engines IMO.
I've had this happen. I went and bought a new cap and the thing still wasn't tight. I ended up thinking it was the tank plastic was bad.
That was yet another thing they had to go and over complicate, probably planned obsolescence, because they want you to buy a whole new gas cap which is ridiculous. But they started putting these twist off caps on the Quantum towards the end of its run and in place of the screw on one. I've heard this complaint on several occasions. What was wrong with the screw on cap they made for decades that does not suffer this problem? Nothing! They should just go back to that, you know they won't, they wanna sell you a gas cap.
So on the Quantum you can't just get a screw on cap, because the tank changed too for the cap. So now their are 3 different tanks and 3 different caps for that same engine, instead of one that was perfectly fine.
Great appetizer!
Good jod
You put the seals on the wrong gas cap. God Bless.
Johnson O-rings do the job.
Great gas-cap fix. I like it Taryl.
