    One of my favorite songs of all time, Harlequin, Thinking of You circa 1980. from Winnipeg I think. Another great song by them, Innocence .

    Mostly a Canadian secret Harri. Unknown in the U.S. Lots of great rock hits like "Innocence", "Sweet Things In Life" and "Superstitious Feeling" . From the same city as The Guess Who; Winnipeg. You should also check out a band called Streetheart - especially their version of the Stones "Under My Thumb". You'll love the bass. Great reaction Harri, Thank You.

      Streethearrt from here in Regina! I think their cover of Under My Thumb is better than the stones original.

      Good call. I've asked Harri to do Streetheart before, and love this song but "Innocence" in my fave they do.

      Yes, definitely check out Streetheart. The lead singer, Kenny Shields, who is no longer with us, is in my estimation Canada’s best pop/rock male vocalist. Maybe “Action” or “Tin Soldier”. Let us know what you think! ua-cam.com/video/tgip7AIQXyU/v-deo.html

      I actually thought for the longest while "Doucette" was Doug from Doug and the Slugs doing a solo (which Hari hasn't covered yet either).

    I have to confess, if you asked me to pick my all time top favourite five songs, this would be in there.
    It's not fancy, but it's got a great guitar riff, a great groove, cool "cadence" in the lyrics, and a damned good guitar solo... and yes, I have been stranded on "the edge of town" in Winnepeg waiting for a taxi and it really sucks... and yes, I have spent a lot of time "thinking about" girls I used to know.
    You've done a great job of bringing older Canadian music back and I'm pretty sure you've had as much fun with it as we have so thank you, very much.:)

    A great band, so many "smaller" bands from Canada that made such great music. Another great Winnipeg band that comes to mind,The Pumps, later Orphan, lots of good stuff. Keep the Canadian reactions coming!

    Great reaction to one of great groups I grew up with and watched them play many times. Although not as popular as Rush and Triumph in the USA these are some of the great 70’s & 80’s Canadian rock bands and their songs that had some success: Streetheart(Action), Goddo(So Walk On), Queen City Kids(Follow You There), Harlequin(Sweet Things In Life), Toronto(Even The Score), Headpins(Turn It Loud), Trooper(Raise a Little Hell), Helix(Deep Cuts The Knife), Chilliwack(Fly At Night), April Wine(Roller), Coney Hatch(Devil's Deck), Killer Dwarfs(Dirty Weapons), Jeff Healey(See the Light), FM(Phasors on Stun), Max Webster(Battle Scar), BTO(Not Fragile). Although definitely not a complete list it’s a great place to begin the journey. Gotta love Canadian music Eh!

    I love when reactionists are blown away by the Canadian talent from the 70s and 80s. Its simple: an average band cannot survive in a small market! Love your reactions. 😀

    wow! A review of Harlequin!? Amazing! One of the best Canadian bands ever. The first concert I ever seen was STREETHEART, (1981, I was 13 years old?) and Harlequin opend up for Streetheart,

    Harri, Harlequin achieved some success in Canada in the early 80's, but I don't yhink they ever really broke into the US market. Yeah, you should come visit us in Canada. And you're right that Canada has produced a lot of giid rock bands, mainly in the late 70's & early 80's. We're pretty chilled people.

  • @babel232
    @babel232 Рік тому +1

    Harri, the best way for you to visit Canada would be by Time Machine, around 1975 thru the mid 80's the music scene was bursting at the seams With Hard Rock'n Canadian Bands from Coast to Coast, Prior to 1975 most Canadian bands went south for record deals, mid 70's seems we were recording more homegrown talent.

    I still have my 45 rpm vinyl copy of "You Are The Light". Nice to see some Canada love here.
    If not checked out yet, Chilliwack's song "My Girl" and Eight Seconds song "Tell Diane" are two Canadian songs that still get lots of airplay.

    This band originated in Winnipeg with a population less than 1 million. I remembered my North American Geography which I took in Secondary Two well. It is one of those countries in Canada that sits on the confluence of two rivers. I did not choose to write about this city for my essay. In fact I avoided the essay question about choosing any three of the following list of North Amercan continent of cities and write about its geography. At that time Singapore was only 2.14 million. Now Singapore is nearly 6 million, surpassing the population of Winnipeg.
